This Year's Model Updates:

The Odyssey gains a number of improvements this year. Included with the Odyssey 2.1 upgrade is more power, a new five-speed transmission, standard rear disc brakes and side airbags, optional leather seating and DVD entertainment, two new exterior colors and minor interior storage refinements.

Pros:
  • Excellent crash-test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system, a bargain at sticker price.
Cons:
  • Slow power sliding doors, dealer markup still a possibility.

  • Ideal Minivan - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We have had our Odyssey 5 years next month and covered over 45,000 trouble free miles. The only issues weve had is one of the tailgate struts failed (I replaced it myself costing $30) and were on our 3rd set of tires (they only seem to last 20k or so). Other than that, no problems. Weve had the recall on the tranny done and (knock on wood) no issues with the transmission so far. We have been very pleased with the van. Its been great as a school bus (its primary role) and great for family vacations. We have no problem loading up the van with kids, dogs and luggage and then plowing up mountain roads at 80+ mph with both AC units going. We average 18 mpg around town and 21 on trips.

the amazing price, supurb ride, and the convenience, the Odyssey. Its the best mini van. the 3rd row seat is more than convenient. There is a ton of space when it is down, and I dont know how I fit anything in my other trunk with the room there is when the seat is up. safety right after we got it someone rear ended us at 50 m/p/h and the breaks held great, and the back glass fell strait down w/o hurting anyone, and I was amazed at how well the car held up after it was repaired.

On the whole this has been a good vehicle. I pull a small cargo trailer with it and am having transmission problems even though it has had all of the Honda services required and I have Honda House change the transmission fluid each fall.

Very good hauler of 4 small kids and two adults -- plus, it pulls a pop-up camper with ease. Very typical Honda quality, with adequate power, a great interior design and very good gas mileage. Relatives got a new Ford Windstar and Chevy Venture and HATE them! They are now considering a trade to get the Odyssey. Would recommend this to anyone considering a minivan.

Its OK. Nothing too great. We did need a new transmission after 7,000 miles. The ride is not so quiet or smooth. If I had to do it again, I would test drive more mini-vans.

  • Most overrated and hyped car Ive owned - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We all love what we own, but this van is simply over rated and its mostly hype. Odyssey is simply not built as well as what I thought or remembered about Honda cars. Dont trust everything you read and go test drive other brands and then maybe you wont make the same mistake as I have.

Like most, I did not want to take the plunge into Minivan life. However, I am very happy we did. It is such a pleasure to drive and we can go anywhere and buy anything without worrying if it will fit. Our daughter loves it because she can see out the window.

  • Love this van! - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We bought this when our children were 1 and 3. They are now 5 and 7 and we have never regretted this purchase. We have had some weird problems with it, such as the drivers seat belt coming unattached from the floor but the dealership fixed it without charge and checked all the other seatbelts. They were all loose at the floor level. The paint is chipping a bit around the doors and some tiny rust spots are starting to appear. Considering that we live in an area that rarely sees snow (thus no salt or sand on the road), this concerns us. Overall, though, this is the best car decision weve ever made. Even trips of over 1,000 miles are easy on the kids its so comfortable.

Love the 5 speed and power - I love sucker punching sports cars in a minivan! The squeaks and rattles in the doors are bad, though, and the seats could be a little more comfy. Dealers could be somewhat more accomodating - laughing in your face when you say MSRP is a little disconcerting...
