This Year's Model Updates:

The Odyssey gains a number of improvements this year. Included with the Odyssey 2.1 upgrade is more power, a new five-speed transmission, standard rear disc brakes and side airbags, optional leather seating and DVD entertainment, two new exterior colors and minor interior storage refinements.

Pros:
  • Excellent crash-test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system, a bargain at sticker price.
Cons:
  • Slow power sliding doors, dealer markup still a possibility.

  • love everything but the power doors - 2002 Honda Odyssey
    By -

My wife (410") wanted the power seat in the EX package. That forces you to take the power doors. We do a lot of pull up to the curb and drop the kids. There are a lot of times when the older kids try and open or close the door when the car is not in Park (car pool line). The doors beep and until they let you try again. The doors are a safety problem IMO. They are difficult to open in the case of an accident. (no power or car not in park and the kids cant get out) The doors are also difficult to open if the battery is dead. The doors cant be disabled because of motor drag. The simple climate system in the LX is more flexible in some situations.

    Nice Interior.

  • Bad Transmission - 2002 Honda Odyssey
    By -

I bought this vehicle new, for my wife in November of 2001 the minivan has 27000 miles, and the transmission went bad had to be replaced, fortunately the warranty was still in force. The Honda had a recall for the transmission in July 2004 for a KIT OIL JET that was replaced. The transmission went bad in March 2005 and had to be replaced. The automatic climate control does not operate properly in full auto. The brakes make a clicking noise when you back up the car. I was given a flyer that this was normal for Hondas, later on the brake pads were replaced on 07/04

  • To Alaska and Back - 2002 Honda Odyssey

We purchased our 2002 Odyssey for the purpose of driving to the Yukon and Alaska with our family of four. We loaded up the van in late June 02 with the camping gear, dog and two ski boxes, heading west from Ottawa, Canada. The trip to the Yukon took us 10 days and on the AlCan highway showed how reliable and powerful this minivan is. In tough mountain driving nothing surpassed this van in performance. We cruised at 70 mph the whole way without a hitch. Highway mileage was very good, city mileage can be improved upon. 7 weeks and 18000 km (12,000 mi) later we returned home with the Odyssey running like a fine swiss watch. Exceeded our expectations.

  • A FULL HOUSE - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Car drives like a cloud, no pitch, no roll. The interior is huge and can easily carry the whole team. The Ody is powered by the 3.5 Acura proven engine and gets to 60mph in a heart beat. Take it for a test drive if your lucky enough to find one.

In short, if you need a minivan, why not drive one that doesnt make everyone think you are a dork. This is our sixth Honda, and we have been disappointed to some extent every time we stray away. This car drives like a sports car compared to the Toyota Sienna we used to drive. The 99-01 Odyssey was the best minivan available in the US/Canada; the 02 adds 35 horsepower, 5-speed aotomatic and disk brakes a

  • !!!HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!!! - 2002 Honda Odyssey

The van is good in general. I had some paint defects on my new van. The attitute of the dealer and Honda Customer Service SUCKED! The Customer satisfaction survey is a waste of my time. I pointed out a couple of things but they have never followed up. The van is the best now. But if their customer service does not improve, Im not sure if I would come back for my next car.

Our family really loves the ODY. I was impressed with the quality of the entertainment system. If you are considering buying an ODY, get it with the factory system, the front radio controls everything, which you wouldnt get after-market, and its a reasonable price.

  • Extremely Pleased - 02 EX - 2002 Honda Odyssey

I understand why Honda rates excellent on its mini-vans. I recently took my brand new 02 EX up to Chicago and its a runner. Gas mileage was about 25mpg. Bountiful amounts of room. Ample room in the engine compartment when compared with other mini-vans.
