This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • Its new but so far good - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I had a hard time picking out a car in this class. Dollar for dollar though the best deal was this car. Yes the standard price is higher, but after you factor in all the features I paid about 300 less. I got a more relable car and I get excellent gas mileage. The dash seems sort of weird at first but it is actually nice so dont have to look down as much

  • First Honda - Cant Stop Driving - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I find myself looking for reasons to drive somewhere, simply because driving this car is so fun. This is my first Honda and it has been a treat. I wish the hybrid still was able to have fold down seats in back but that is currently where the batteries are located. I have had to relearn how to drive because if I drive normally, I wont get near the high MPG I bought this car for. If I watch what Im doing, its ok. Drove a 150 mile trip, mostly freeway and got 47 MPG. In city, I get a solid 40 MPG. Car is really jerky in the 7-9 mph range. It feels like it cant decide whether to shut the engine off or not.

  • Where is the reliability? - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought 2006 Civic LX because of its incredible reliability history but having a real hard time keeping this newly designed car healthy. Got tired of taking my new car to dealership almost every other week. I have already gone to the dealer to fix the passenger door, passenger seat sliding assembly, recalled accelerator padel, falling steering column cover, unfoldable backseat and today - both rear shock absorbers are leaking alarming amount of fluid - need to replace both. Got so freaked out, purchased the extended warranty as I have to buy it before 6000 miles. God knows whats next! Am I the only unlucky one? This is extremely poor quality control by Honda for a redesigned car.

  • Comfortable, Quick, Great MPG! - 2006 Honda Civic

I replaced my 2001 Accord with the 2006 Civic looking for better MPG and handling I got what I was looking for! It was a strange looking car at the time but since then more and more cars have the bullet shaped frame.

  • I miss my 96 Accord - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought the Civic because it was close in size to my 96 Accord and the price was right. I didnt realize that squirrels find my wiring harness so tasty and Ive had to spend over $500 repairing. I asked if there is anything that can be done to protect the wiring harness. Nope. Evidently they like the foam that surrounds it. At 34k I need a real ABS sensor and was told it was covered under warranty. Went to pickup the car and had to pay for it in order to get my car back. I have loved Hondas but they need to get a 10yr 100000k warranty. Next time I will look at a Hyundai. One more thing...the dash and glove box rattles terrible. No fix for that either.

I have been very pleased with my Civic. Alot of people hate the interior but I enjoy the futuristic looks. The seats are very sturdy and comfortable, although the plastic and paint is like many said cheap and scratches easily. Sunroof, Ipod hookup, multiple airbags, digital speedometer have all been nice features. This car does get excellent gas mileage BUT at a price for power... very very poor passing power on 2 lane roads. With all that said it has been a very reliable car, just the normal wear and tear upkeep.

  • 06 HCH Great For Me - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Ive had my Civic Hybrid for 3 and half years now and it still feels nearly as tight as when it was new. My mileage is 50-57 in summer and 42-45 in the cold northern winters. It handles great in the turns though fully loaded you can tell the difference. It is a nice smooth and quiet car that driven lightly will get outstanding mileage in town. Two gripes only. The electric power steering doesnt have a good sense of feel or on-center and will drift if twitched even the smallest bit. Winter warm-up of the battery/hybrid system takes way too long and drops the cars mileage a lot in winter. That said, I think its a great ride that has really taken the pain out of the high gas prices.

  • 2006 Civic - 2006 Honda Civic

The 2006 civic EX 4 door Sedan with automatic transmission is surprisingly similar to the 2005 Accord in smoothness. The engine noise is very well isolated and the interior is much roomier than the previous generation of Civics. The automatic tranny has 5 gears vs the previous 4 gears and has a VTECH head which makes the car much more suitable for city driving than the previous model. In other words, it has alot more acceleration at low speeds although the 06 civic, in general, is NOT noticeably more performant than its predecessor due to its increased weight.

  • Good Transportation - 2006 Honda Civic

RATING 3/4 of 5 - DX-G, MAN. TRANS., CANADA BUILT, 27K MILES. Overall a good/very good car for city/highway driving. PLUS: Styling, Fuel Efficiency, Maintenance/Reliability, Road Feel/Turning, Drives Straight, No Vibration, Starts at - 45! Great for shorter drivers, Fun 2 Drive. MINUS: Fit & Finish - paint, plastics used (scratches easily), Some parts slightly misaligned, Front end is low to ground some people may have difficulty entering/exiting car if not aware, may easily hit concrete barriers while parking, trunk space good for small jobs, Suspension has started to squeak over small bumps, Factory tires will need to be replaced due to softer factory tires.

  • A car with a bunch of problems - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought this car new in November 2005. Then,i had to have the SRS airbag sensor replaced. The dealer didnt fix it the first time! the car rattles like crazy. I had panels pop off the side airbag, on passenger seat and "repopped in" my glovebox had to be replaced. The alignment is way off and sterring wheel is not straight, after months of ownership the interior looks like its 10+ years old already, cheap interior pieces and plastics, prone to scratching and damage easy. When you press the gas all the way the car doesnt move!! its weak. I cant see the front of the car or the hood when driving. Drive by wire makes the car jerk, and takes away the enjoyment of driving.
