This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has completely redesigned the Civic for 2006. Highlights include a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.8-liter engine, new exterior styling, an advanced interior design and more premium features. The company has also improved the gas-electric IMA system for the Civic Hybrid and restored the Civic Si trim's potency with a 197-horsepower engine and a sportier coupe body style. Midway through the year, Honda will also introduce a new "GX" trim level that runs on natural gas.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, lots of standard safety equipment, roomy and refined interior, special Hybrid, GX and Si models.
Cons:
  • Polarizing dash design, top-of-the-line models are pricey.

  • Gas mileage - 2006 Honda Civic

I traded a Tundra for this civic purely for better gas mileage. Im averaging over 31 MPG. Im pleased with the performance and the overall fit and finish. If youre looking for an interstate cruiser, soft and heavy, this aint it but if you need a commuter that is responsive, gets good gas mileage and sits 4 quite comfortably, you should give it a look.

As a prior honda owner (2000 Civic DX, 2002 Civic EX) I couldnt wait for the next generation honda. I purchased early. The design and function of the vehicle took some time to become accustomed to but my first three months of ownership caused some concern. I received a recall for the passenger side airbag. In my prior Honda experience, never a recall. Gas mileage was and still is a dissapointment. My 2000 and 2002 came "out of the box" with an average of 35 MPG. With any luck the most I acheived to date is 31 MPG. With all the hype about improvements, I was expecting much more than 31 MPG. Let me note that my style of driving has not changed. My next purchase may NOT be a honda.

  • Other things to consider - 2006 Honda Civic

Did a lot of research before purchase & conclude this is the best value smaller sedan. I am coming from a 2002 Camry ELE and, except for the loss of electric seats and some space find the Civic drives just as comfortably. I have driven 1,300 miles and have several issues: 1) a lightly audible rattle in the left front dash; 2)local MPG that is only averaging 27 (driving fairly conservatively) all highway is 39 mpg; 3) and that the front end is fairly low - be carful going up modest driveway grades, I ended up having to take off the front mud flaps as they would occasionally scrape.

  • Awesome 2006 civic - 2006 Honda Civic

Sporty, long trips comfortable, great mileage, needs more power for passing and entering highway, what is the little window for???? Tire noise, have to change tires.

  • A disappointment. - 2006 Honda Civic

Id always wanted a Honda, so finally bought one (a new Civic) in Dec. 2006; fit & finish are good, however annoying petty issues have left me very disappointed in this model. Fuel mileage is superb however mysterious "thumping" noise in right front end that cannot be repaired, and bad power steering pump negates any positivity on my part. Interior visor had to be replaced. Several recalls. Tire noise and longevity is a problem also. May trade after national economy improves.

  • 1st Civic - 2006 Honda Civic

We went to buy a certified Accord, but after seeing the poor selection ended up test driving a new Accord and then the Civic. Hands down the Civic won due to styling, mileage, features and price. The Accord just felt it should be driven by someone of an older generation. No problems as of yet, plenty of room and gas mileage has been hovering between 31 & 37 mpg depending on amount of short trips. Feels solid and built with high quality materials. And crash test results are excellent.

  • 6 month review - 2006 Honda Civic

Now that I have been driving it for 6 months and the weather is getting colder I thought Id share that the gas mileage has gone down from 47 mpg to 42 mpg. Also some of the cheap plastic parts (hand emergency brake) paint is chipping. Keep in my though that I drive every day in stop and go traffic and I heard that gas mileage does drop on these hybrids when it gets cold. I still love my climate control, sound system and navigational system.

  • A good vehicle, a tad pricey - 2006 Honda Civic

So far, it has been a good car (had it for a month so far), but its still just a civic. It lacks power, bold design, etc. But its an econo car, so I wont make those negatives. The gas mileage is great and I still havent worked the car in yet. The interior design is good, but the layout is sort of poor for certain things. The outside is kind of boring... looks like a big bubble. The gauges are very cool though, always excites people. Underneath the hood is cramped. The inside trunk release is HORRID. I personalyl tested it, it barely glows, and there are other things glowing inside so its confusing. I knew it was there and barely got it. Imagine a little kid who has no idea trying to get out.

  • Like it - yes, but not my dream car - 2006 Honda Civic
    By -

Its my first Honda, I like it, but am a little disappointed. Its sharp looking, but needs work. I do enjoy better gas mileage, but this car needs some oomph. Its slow going uphill and struggles to switch gears even on flat ground. If I crack my window when raining it pours in, and there are no Honda door visors available for the 2006 Civic. It sits so low to the ground, that its tough to get in and out of if you have knee problems, and Im only 54". Sun visor has too much tension, is hard to pull down, and wont stay put. Tires are tiny, Ive already scratched the rim on a low curb - other cars might get a tire scuff. The 2006 sits lower than former model years - park next to one and see
