  • I love this car - 2003 Honda Civic

Over the past 3 years, weve never had any problems with this car. Havent had any repairs done, just the regular maintenance. When I drive the car, it consistently gets 45-52 mpg (depending on whether its highway or city; summer or winter and whether the bike rack is on the roof); my husband gets a little lower--probably 42-51. Driving styles will definitely impact the mileage. As a short person, I love that I can see out of the car and the blind spots are minimal. Only having to get gas once every 4-6 weeks is a major plus; and weve driven the car from Chicago to Syracuse, NY on more than one occasion (a 12 hour drive), using just one tank of gas.

This car is an excellent small car, with the emphasis on small. If you are over 6 ft. tall you cannot sit in the back of this car without hitting your head on the roof. Also, the sunroof cuts off another couple of inches in the front, so once again 6 ft. + is very tight, but you can get another inch or so if you lower the seet all the way. Apparently, the 2003 have a rougher idle than the 2002s or at least that is what the dealership is telling me. I have not had it in yet, but the idle is annoying.

I love the way my civic looks both inside and out. The backseat is very comfortable for a two-door car. The dashboard, including the gauges, are much more impressive than other compact cars that i was looking into buying.

My Civic has been extremely reliable and gets great gas mileage (around 33mpg average in mixed driving). Honda dealers are also nice to work with after purchase for in-warranty and out of warranty service.

  • What Happened To Honda? - 2003 Honda Civic

I bought this car in 2002 and it has been very reliable until it hit 100,000 miles. The transmission slips terribly, I took it to a service station and had it flushed thinking that would help but no such luck. The service manager said hes seen several Hondas with bad transmissions lately. My first Honda was good for 180,000 miles, died when I wrapped it around a pole.Thats why I bought another one. But this ones transmission started acting up as soon as it hit 100,000 miles. What happened to you, Honda?

This car is an amazing combination of economy and comfort. It has a huge interior given its exterior dimensions. It is a good interstate cruiser (on a round trip from upstate New York to Orlando I got 40-42 mpg despite sustained 70-75mph speeds!) and the drivers seat is outstanding given the cars price. There is passenger space and luggage room enough for four people on a long trip. Overall I definitely recommend this car. Im originally from Sweden and have always driven German and French cars. This Civic beats them all, except the latest Peugeot 307 Diesel which is not offered here in the States.

  • It works. - 2003 Honda Civic

Unless you have some type of phobia about being on the road in a small vehicle alongside all these SUVs, this is the car for you. It has great gas mileage,is affordable, reliable, and fun to drive. The only complaint I have is the ill designed rubber front spoiler flap which has come off in both our Civics.

  • misleading gas mileage... - 2003 Honda Civic

I primarily bought this Civic for the great gas mileage. I expected to get at least 350-400 miles per tank and am only getting up to 300 miles per tank. Edmunds says this vehicle is capable of up to 501 miles per tank...and after purchasing the car I was very disappointed. I thought it must be the way I drive, since I use premium gas, but several people with the same exact vehicle have the same exact problem. Other than that though, Its a nice, dependable car, and I bought it at a great price $14,700 so I cant complain too much.

This is a good car but poor seating for a 6 footer. The worst design for vents . It blows in your face with no lower vents. Fix these things and you wil get tens!

  • Look out for the "Rally" Shifter - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I have had issues my new si. When I has my car for 2 weeks the shifter when out. Then it took letters to the pres, vp, gm, and corp. honda to get my car fixed in just sort of a month. ever since the fuel economy had been worse, first and reverse slip a few times a week, 3rd randomly grinds. also the shift knob loosened and my cruise control is out more than it works. this was my first honda and if things do not improve maybe my last. also barber honda in bakersfield doesnt know what customer service is. consider yourself warned.
