This Year's Model Updates:

A host of minor changes bring the Civic into 2003. On the inside, all models gain improved seat fabrics, rear adjustable outboard headrests and new four-spoke steering wheels. On HX, LX and EX Civics, you'll find improved gauge illumination. There's a new center console for LX and EX, and a CD player is standard for HX and LX. On the outside, the 2003 Honda Civic has freshened taillamps and new wheel designs. Also, there is a Hybrid Civic available for the 2003 model year.

Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • Civic Hybrid 03 ... great car - 2003 Honda Civic

40k miles on it now. If I drive it insanely hard I get 41 mpg. Normal around 48 mpg. If I pay attention, I can get 55 mpg (stay off the interstate to do this.) Acceleration is enough to merge well on freeways (okay, so its not a Viper...). Handles fairly well and comfortable enough (didnt buy it to be a limo...). Its a great car and looks just like a regular Civic (a plus for me).

My wife and I really like this car, with 50000 miles and still going. I took a 300 mile trip, not on the interstate highway and got 56.3 miles per gallon driving a couple of miles over the posted speed. Driving 75 MPH on the interstate drops the MPG to around 42MPG. I also get around 50MPG around town.

  • Excellent Buy, Fun to Drive - 2003 Honda Civic

I walked into a Honda dealership, and decided to test drive a Civic EX Coupe. I hated it. I couldnt believe the lack of power, lack of amentities, and high sticker price the car held. As I began to walk away disappointed, my salesman suggested the Si. I wasnt too keen on the clumsy post-modern hatchback design, but once I drove it I couldnt say No. The car has tons of torque, an incredibly solid front end, a smooth shifter, and a sexy sporty interior. I also feel that the car is a steal for what im paying - $3000 out of pocket, and $200 a month for 4 years.

  • Great Value - 2003 Honda Civic

The car is a great value balancing performance with gas milage. I average 32-36 miles per gallon and have found the car to perform well even above 75 mph. The areas I found most disappointing were the acceleration and steering. I would have gladly traded a few miles per gallon for for pickup and tighter steering.

  • My "Bad " Little Car - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I use the word "bad" in the title as many young people use the word - "Bad" is good and my 2002 Civic is just that - Good! Good gas mileage (36 per gallon on the road) Good in that I can use regular gas as opposed to Premium, good in that it is easy on my pocketbook to maintain, good to look at and easy on the eyes. Good in that it maintains its value and has little depreciation. Good relationship with my dealer. Good continuing contact with the salesman who sold me the car, Good, good, good. My "Bad" Little car is GOOD.

  • Mileage - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

Actual Mileage is 42mpg @80 mph,47mpg around town, and 52mpg in the Florida Keys. Cant get it away from my wife. 1.9% financing with 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, 3.9% without. No problems so far.

  • 03 CIVIC Si - 2003 Honda Civic

I looked at many cars on the market. Honda has a reputation for reliability. Even though this car may have ~10HP less then some of its competitors, I belive that the car is a better overall package then the competition. You can easily make 10 more HP out of this motor with a few cheap mods. If you want fast straightline accelerating car, then this car is quick. But I have driven faster 4cyl. The overall package (interior, handling, performance, and reliability) plus the fun factor made this an easy choice for me. I have over 4,000 miles and am even happier with it then the day I bought it...

  • 2003 Civic LX - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

Finally Honda improves fit, finish, and build quality closer to new VW Jetta and Passat. The 96-2001 Civics felt cheap, and had poor build quality. Ever had to replace a 5spd transmition in a 97 Honda Civic? I did. Only gripes I have after 3000 new miles on the 2003 is that the power steering to heavy/muted. Honda listen up..... No car of this price or quality should be without ABS. In short much better than the previous model, however Honda still needs to sit the Civic and the Accord for that matter next to a VW Jetta or Passat and compare every detail. Recomended if money is an issue.

  • Quick and tight, but needs refinement - 2003 Honda Civic
    By -

I bought my 01 Civic EX sedan 20 months ago and it is my daily driver. It took some getting used to, coming from a car with almost 100 more horsepower, but it is a very spirited little car. Its got great road feel and a great suspension. Interior design is sofisticated, but the exterior, specifically the rear view, needs some work. Seats are adequate, but dont plan on taking this car on long trips. The stereo is above average for factory. The Automatic transmission is sloppy, especially going into second.
