This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

I purchased this car in new in 2003. got a great deal on the leftover!I love this car. Its alot of fun to drive. Ive had a few minor issues. Had to replace the battery 3 times in 5 years and the oxygen sensor once. Overall though I love this car and will definitely buy another.

Recently getting back from Iraq, I felt like I needed something that would be suit me performance wise and in style. I had done so many months of research and was looking at the Nissan SE-R Spec V and Civic SI-R. But when I came across the Focus SVT I was quite impressed with the performance and standard options. Styling of this car interior wise is awesome. When you stomp on the gas you get pushed back in your seat. 0-60 in 7 seconds and the tuned suspension makes the car handle so amazing. Now, the check engine light is one of the pains that come with this car. The IMRC and O2 sensors always seem to cause problems but usually arent anything huge. Aftermarket for this car are endless.

  • Ford Quality??????????????? - 2002 Ford Focus

I purchased a black SVT Focus about one year ago. The car is a blast to drive when the road gets twisty but lacks the kind of power that I crave. The chassis is very well balanced, the handling is nuetral and the car is very easy to rotate. I would prefer a little less body roll and better high speed stability as the car is a little twitchy in high speed sweepers (100mph +). My major complaint with the car is the quality. I had to get a new power steering pump, alternator, and now the intake runner control quit working. This in addition to several different noises and rattles that emminated from the exhaust.

  • When they are bad, they are really bad - 2002 Ford Focus

This is the worst car I have ever owned. The fule mileage has been awful. I am a conservative driver and have had it to the dealer multiple times with no result. The car stalls, randomly downshifts, and has had to have a fuel pump replaced. I went with a Ford because I trusted that they really had improved. What a disapointment. My 16 year old Camry with 160,000 miles is more reliable and gets better gas mileage. Check these cars very carefully. I have friends that love theirs, but when there is a problem, the car is a real pain in the rear. Oh, and the 16 inch rims make new tires far more expensive, so consider getting the other model with the 15 inch rims to save some money.

This is a great performance slanted suburban vehicle. The engine /6 speed transmission combination is nearly ideal. The suspension and brakes are even better! You can drive it very fast into corners and off ramps. It is a great second car, but not practical enough for a single car family, with children. I purchased the optional 200 watt sound system, and would definetly recommend that-has a large woofer in the trunk, and 6 disc in dash CD player.

This vehicle is fun to drive and excellent as far as gas mileage is concerned. The Ford Focus that I bought last year has been great for me, an on- the-go student.I love road trips and this car has proven itself. It can go anywhere reliably and for very little money. I have had only one problem, with the CD player, but it gets used A LOT! Ford fixed it with no problem.

This car has excellent handling. I am not a car person so my primary reason for purchasing was price and gas mileage. The inside of the car is a little small. Passengers in the back seat have to scrunch up and it would not be good for long car rides with four people. This car needs new tires constantly. I am lucky to get 15k out of a tire. I mean they are completely bald. I have had alignment checked no problems. I rotate the tires but barely can do it twice before I need new ones. I been through 7 full sets of tires in 5 years. The tires are supposed to get 50-75K and it isnt even close. I also had to have the struts front and back all replaced by 50K.

  • Ford Focus is fun, but unreliable - 2002 Ford Focus

The Focus ZX3 Power Premium is a great car. It is fun to drive. The engine could use some more power, especially with an automatic and during the summer when the air conditioning is on. Some minor defects are covered by the manufacturer and dealership, but are still a pain to deal with. There are too many defects and problems that are just annoying.

  • Excellent auto - 2002 Ford Focus

I am almost always the one to bash an auto maker. But the Focus 4 door wagon has been very good to me and with 199,000 has been awesome. The only regret is Ford not making this mid size wagon anymore. I am the original owner the things that were replaced was wiper motor, tires, brakes(only the second set) a little pricey, the alternator (which was still under warrantry). A very honest reliable vechicle good value. Yes, I would buy another Focus. A little bummed about the removal of the wagon.

Questionable electrics tarnish the enjoyment of a very affordable car. Ive had numerous lights burn out on a regular basis, the headlights arent nearly bright enough ( a recurring problem over the last few years that Ford refuses to address ) and an intermittant clutch pedal/ignition cutout switch that works when it feels like it. The car handles well and should be fun to drive except the shift linkage feels like its imbedded in frozen peanut butter. My dealer told me "..thats just the way it is". However, whenever these annoyances start to irritate me I just look at the window sticker and my blood pressure reverts back to normal. Still a lotta bang for the buck.
