This Year's Model Updates:

Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.

Pros:
  • Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.
Cons:

Extremely responsive and fun to drive. The cars begs to be thrown into corners and play. It has a fanstastic stereo, and roomy accomodations for 4 people. Its a sport hatch more than an economy car.

I owned my Focus for 5 years have had transmission replaced at 37000 miles, tires every 20000 miles and the alternator replaced once. Not too much work for 140000 miles, besides routine maintenance. I like the cars fuel economy/handling/pickup. If I didnt need more room I would buy a new Focus. So I sticking with Ford and buying a Ford Escape Limited.

  • Worst Car Ive Owned - 2002 Ford Focus

I bought this vehicle to avoid nickel-and-dime problems that were starting to appear in my 2000 Sunfire. Little did I know that Id have the Focus in the shop four times over the last seven months. This has quickly become the most unreliable car Ive ever driven, and Ill never buy a Ford again. Ill be trading this car for what I knew I should have bought in the first place - a Honda Civic.

I love my car. It is fast and fun to drive. I was unsure about what it could do, but was forced to find out when a car pulled out in front of me on the freeway. I swerved hard and the car held (at 75 mph). Since I have pushed the card more (at lower speeds) and have been very pleased about the car.

I do highway driving and only get about 26mpg. I had a minivan, so I wanted the availability to haul stuff (bikes, snowboards, etc.), and in that aspect its a great fit. I call it my mini-minivan. However, I was looking for a bit better gas mileage (32ish), the windshield wipers have a bit of a glitch, the bolts that hold the air filter box together are somehow defunct. But other than that I am overall happy with the car. I wished it would have been easy to find one with a stick and there is no RMP gauge on the SE. I have a few Mustangs also, so I miss the power. The 130 hp engine does the job, but no burnouts. The car does handle very well and feels sportier than it should.

This is an excellent vehicle for those that enjoy driving, comfort, and style. Comfortable seats and almost anyone can find a comfortable seating position, I am 64" and my wife is 55" and we both enjoy driving the car and find it very comfortable.

In 4 years I have had to replace the front rotors and brake shoes (the first year!), replace two window motors and regulators, replace the power steering pump, rack & pinion unit, battery, CD player, factory dry rotted tires, and the air bag light keeps coming on. The car looks brand new inside and out, is regularly maintenance, has few passengers (no kids), is driven carefully and has few miles on it. A mechanic said you have a 50/50 chance on getting a good one. Guess which % I was in? Please, dont buy one!

I have not had the car long and so I have no problems with it at all. It is a lot of car for the money and is a great little hatch. Fun to drive, but still practical, and a lot of bang for the buck.

  • Better than we thought - 2002 Ford Focus

We bought 02 Focus SE (auto) in Jan 2002. So far it has 60k miles. Happy with its overall reliability and handling (considering its a FORD). Its fun to drive. No powertrain or any powered parts problem. Its an economical car and some parts such as tires and rotors have worn out fast. What have been repaired/changed include: all 4 tires (less than 3 yrs), 2 front rotors (less than 3 yrs), spark plugs and wires (4 yrs), one rear light bulb and drain plug (less than 3 yrs).

  • Fast, Fun And Praticle - 2002 Ford Focus

I bought the Focus as my first new car back in Feburary 2002. After two cross country road trips, and a 50 mile a day commute, I must say that this car has performed like a champ. My gas mileage is typically between 30 and 34, and on the longer highway only trips can hit 38. The handling of this car is amazing, and corners better than any sports car Ive driven before. The comfort is above average, but you can get a bit sore after more than 5 or 6 hours in the car. All in all, if I had to do it all over, Id still choose the Focus.
