Overview & Reviews
Four new Focus models debut for 2002: the ZX5 five-door hatchback, the well-equipped ZTW wagon, the sport-tuned SVT hatchback and the Mach Audio ZTS. No matter what Focus you pick in 2002, a power moonroof can now be ordered. The high-end ZTS Sedan loses its standard ABS and crummy fake wood dash trim while gaining a rear spoiler. An in-dash six-disc CD changer is standard on ZX5, ZTS and ZTW but optional on all other Foci except the LX Sedan.
- Thoughtful ergonomics, large interior, smooth ride, sharp steering, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

Party Wag - 2002 Ford Focus
By weakside - March 13 - 2:00 amPerfect balance of economy, luxury, sportiness, and fun. You cant beat the ZTW for its price. Itll hold more cargo than many small and mid-size SUVs and get 30 mpg on the highway. And somehow, you end up having nearly the same view from the drivers seat. It rides quite high for a small car. I cant wait for its first road trip. Its just a fun car to drive.

The best car Ive bought so far! - 2002 Ford Focus
By Michelle Jones - March 1 - 9:12 amThis is the best car Ive bought so far. Besides the fact that its very fun to drive, it handles the road very well and has tons of storage space. I have made many trips to Ikea and have fit very large boxes in my car, while other people next to me in pick-up trucks had a hard time fitting smaller boxes in their trucks. Its great on gas (about 30 miles average, more on the freeway) and has plenty of horsepower. I would recommend this car to anybody who likes the convenience of a wagon and the sportiness of the Focus.

Very Happy - 2002 Ford Focus
By Afernung - February 24 - 12:05 pmI love my Focus. I found a Mach Edition in about perfect condition. Had a lot of highway miles on it, bought with 60k, up to 80k now. I actually ran into the other owner, (which was a 1 in a million chance!) while delivering pizzas, and she said it had been the best car she ever had. Id like a truck or SUV but the only problem this car has given me is a CD jam. I had to dismantle the cd player and take out the 6 CDs it ruined 4. It also seems to want to eat tires and is very figgedity about balance, always has a little vibration. Other than that, CANNOT complain!

Porsche Killer - 2002 Ford Focus
By Ben - February 17 - 6:19 pmGreat car, needed reliable transportation, good economy, but no sacrifice to performance, and needed it all on a strict budget. Shopped all the imports, but the SVTF had much more bang for the buck. The SRT4 will spank it in a line, but the SVTF out handles cars that costs 5 times as much. I autocross it often, once entered a Porsche Club of America event, came in 4th out of 75 cars, 55 were Porsches! Im a decent driver, but the SVTF makes me a great driver. Easy to drive and very predictable handling. I can haul a lot gear to work in the hatch, and go racing on the weekend. Well balanced car, Ford needs to make more cars like this!

Love this car !!!!! - 2002 Ford Focus
By Blue SVT - February 13 - 10:00 amOne the most fun cars to drive. I have driven Porsches(924s, 944, 911), Mustang GTs, Camaros, BMWs(540i, 840i,330i) and for thousands less this ranks up there with them. I get looks from Mercedes, Porsche,BMW owners because how original the car looks (yes, it stands out even though there are thousands of Focus cars on the road).

Poor Quality - 2002 Ford Focus
By Russ Blayney - February 2 - 4:06 pmOur company owns three 2002s. One blew engine after 1700 miles. Hose clamp failed, waited 3 weeks for replacement motor under warranty. Tranny valve went out in another car @ 22000 miles. Now this same car is needing a new tranny @ 57000miles. All 3 have trunk release problems, eat tires and rattle a lot. All of these cars have been maintained to Ford specs and dealership service. No more Fords for us. The jokes are still alive and well, Found On the Road Dead & Fix Or Repair Daily.

Love the car - 2002 Ford Focus
By Mike Castegnaro - February 1 - 11:16 amI recently purchased my 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 and I really love it. This car has power everything, including a 6 disc player. I have always had Ford cars and trucks and NEVER had any problem with any of them at all. The gas mileage is great and has a lot of pickup. My friend purchased an 06 Toyota Scion. Its also a really nice car, but it does suck up the gas. We both have 4 cylinders. My Focus gets 26 mpg around town and 35 on highway. This is my most expensive car that I have ever purchased, also my newest. Close to $10,000. The dealership was great, however, a little bit of pressure was involved. I did get a good deal though. This car will last me the next 10 years.

good bye old pard - 2002 Ford Focus
By DICKSTER - January 26 - 8:19 pmI bought this car on impulse. Basically it had a practical style because of the functional hatchback design covering a tiger. I love to drive this car. It handles better than anything Ive owned or driven in the past although a turbocharger would have been better. The creature comforts are just right for this type of car. Its not a plush ride nor should it be. Too bad Ford hasnt figured out how to make a car reliable. Ive had all sorts of problems from bent axles to a failed oil pump causing me to replace the engine. Just replaced the dual mass clutch that literally exploded and not under stress. I dont enjoy waiting for tow trucks so its going to a new owner who will love the handling.

120,000 Miles and still drives fine - 2002 Ford Focus
By bigticket42 - January 21 - 6:27 pmBought this car because of gas prices. Bought it with 120,000 miles on it. The car runs great. Good gas mileage, not great but I have the ZTS with the sportier engine in it. I am 66" and I have good room. Trunk is good sized but the opening is not big enough. Traction in winter rime is terrible. Need snow tires. Problems are that the fog lights at this time are not working, not sure why. The control module for the traction control and ABS is out so I have to manually pump brakes until I get it fixed. Other than that it is a good economy car. Probably not up to the standards of the Japanese or a Jetta but better than a Chevy Cavalier from 02 and probably as good as the Neon from 02.
