This Year's Model Updates:

A new King Ranch SuperCab arrives for 2002, joining the SuperCrew version near the top of the F-150 food chain. All King Ranch trucks get lighted visor mirrors with a HomeLink universal transmitter and a Travel Note recording device, while KR SuperCrews have automatic climate control and an available second-row bench seat that replaces the standard rear captain's chairs. Get the Harley-Davidson edition for a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine that adds 80 horsepower and new styling cues in the form of flame pin striping and chrome accessories, a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the label and rivets surrounding the center cap of the 20-inch wheels. The lower-line F-150 XL gets standard air conditioning, and its 4.2-liter V6 receives a ULEV rating. An FX4 off-road equipment package can be added to XLT or Lariat 4WD models and includes upgrades like Rancho shocks, skid plates, special wheels and unique trim. Carryover improvements from late 2001 include seat-mounted seatbelts on SuperCabs, child seat-tether anchors and rear head restraints on SuperCrew models. Also added late in 2001 were optional heated front seats (XLT and Lariat), a power sunroof (XLT and Lariat SuperCab and Crew) and a rear-seat entertainment system (XLT and Lariat SuperCrew).

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Everybody and his brother has one.

  • better than my old F 150 - 2002 Ford F-150

for a six this F150 has pretty decent performance for my needs and the fuel economy has been acceptable too. Its been reliable and easy to handle in city traffic. Id recommend it for anyone who needs a light duty truck.

Excellent basic, full-size truck. Does exactly what it is designed to do, that is be a basic, large truck. With 255 size tires on 16 inch wheels it sits a little higher than I would like for ease of entry/exit. Tilt steering wheel would help a lot. V-6 engine is plenty for my use. I would like better gas mileage. Power mirrors, door locks, and windows would make the large cab easier to operate, but it is still a great basic full-size truck. Limited slip differential excellent on slick roads.

I bought this truck new. In over 5 years, It needed brakes once, a ball joint, and a set of rear springs. The factory steel bumper needs a repaint. Thats all the bad news. Now for the good news. On the highway the 4.2 liter gets 20mpg for real! It can tow a 5800lb trailer at 65mph and still get 12-13mpg! The truck has never let me down.

I finally got it. Ive always wanted one and found my 02 at the Ford dealership. It only had 43k and in perfect condition. The performance is unreal. Gas mileage is ok for whats under the hood. I drove this truck from Florida to Ohio and averaged only 16 mpg. It was very comfortable and quiet. I towed a car back with it and lost 2 mpg averaging 13-14. I cant say enough about this truck. I really enjoy driving and owning it. Mine is red and completly stock. The best part is the blower whine. The truck handles like a sports car. Buy this truck. It is unreal. I always get comments and questions about it at the gas pump.

  • first problem - 2002 Ford F-150

I compared all of the full size trucks on the market before I purchased my F150. I love this truck, but its now in the shop because it developed some sort of electrical issue and left me stranded on the side of the road today. Other than that, this truck rides great, gets pretty decent mileage for a full size truck (18mpg in mixed driving), is squeak and rattle free, and was running perfectly prior to today. Assuming the electrical problem is a fluke, I would recommend this truck to anyone looking for a versatile, comfortable, full size truck.

I purchased the F-150 Lariat 4x4 crew cab because of the interior room and the ride. The ride is better than most passenger vehicles and SUVs! Ive received numerous complements about the size, looks, and interior room of this vehicle.

I bought this truck used about a year and a half ago. I plan on having it forever. I have had no major problems with it. I was either going to buy this truck or a similar used 2004 (new style) F-150 model, but I really like this style better. It feels/drives more like a truck (the 2004 for felt/drove more like an SUV to me) and also feel it is a stronger, more durable vehicle. If you are looking for a used truck and come across a 2002-2003 F-150, give it a try and you wont be disapointed. This is a truck that you will still see on the road in 10-20 years....something you couldnt say about a Dodge.

  • Still Happy With It - 2002 Ford F-150

Bought new in November 2002. Generally still like the vehicle and like the styling better than the new F-150 except for the front end. Absolutely love how comfortable the vehicle is front and back, and the quality of the leather seats are very good and easy to maintain. Have had few problems except with the drivers side heated seat and the keyless entry system, both of which were repaired under warranty. The paint quality is excellent and there are still no rattles and squeaks after 4 1/2 years. The dash is starting to look dated now, especially when compared to the new models. Undercarriage has some rust which in my view is premature. Great power with the 5.4, but fuel economy is only OK.

  • F150 problems - 2002 Ford F-150

The first 3 years the truck was a good truck. I use the truck for camping and to go a short distance to work. For the past year I have been getting water in the cab on the drivers side. I have tried to find where it is coming in at with no success. This year the ABS has died (the orange idiot light is on and ABS doesnt function). Havent had time to investigate this yet to determine what the problem is. Three of the four doors are starting to bubble with rust at the base of the doors where the folds are at. The last issue is every so often the service engine soon light comes on. If it wasnt for these issues I would be really happy with the truck.

  • Gotta Love It - 2002 Ford F-150

It has plenty of power, but bad on gas. I get 11-1/2 mpg while towing a 24ft travel trailer. Would love to have a little more torque for towing at 100kph without dropping a gear. Very comfortable and spacious up front.
