This Year's Model Updates:

A new King Ranch SuperCab arrives for 2002, joining the SuperCrew version near the top of the F-150 food chain. All King Ranch trucks get lighted visor mirrors with a HomeLink universal transmitter and a Travel Note recording device, while KR SuperCrews have automatic climate control and an available second-row bench seat that replaces the standard rear captain's chairs. Get the Harley-Davidson edition for a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine that adds 80 horsepower and new styling cues in the form of flame pin striping and chrome accessories, a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the label and rivets surrounding the center cap of the 20-inch wheels. The lower-line F-150 XL gets standard air conditioning, and its 4.2-liter V6 receives a ULEV rating. An FX4 off-road equipment package can be added to XLT or Lariat 4WD models and includes upgrades like Rancho shocks, skid plates, special wheels and unique trim. Carryover improvements from late 2001 include seat-mounted seatbelts on SuperCabs, child seat-tether anchors and rear head restraints on SuperCrew models. Also added late in 2001 were optional heated front seats (XLT and Lariat), a power sunroof (XLT and Lariat SuperCab and Crew) and a rear-seat entertainment system (XLT and Lariat SuperCrew).

Pros:
  • Wide range of configurations and features, capable powertrains and suspension, attractive styling inside and out.
Cons:
  • Everybody and his brother has one.

  • Blue Oval Power! - 2002 Ford F-150

Ive got the 2002 F-150 lariat supercrew with the FX4 off road package. This truck rules! It looks better than the chevy and the dodge, AND has everything you could want or need in a truck. Despite what some say this truck has plenty of power I can spin the 265/70/17s, and it can haul those broke down chevys to the junk yard with no problem. Bottom line this is THE truck to own, problem is everybody does...

  • Nice Truck - 2002 Ford F-150

I drive an F150 for work and have been impressed by the solid feel and comfort compared to smaller trucks I have driven. So when I saw the King Ranch version, I knew this was my next vehicle. The leather in this truck is great, very soft and comfortable. The rest of the truck is well built and have had no ptroblems at all. After three weeks there is no reason to take it to the dealer for the normal build defects.

I love the ride, performance, and reliability of my Ford F150. The exterior of the truck is sharp. The interior is less than might be expected for an XLT (sticker was over $30K.) The dashboard is completely plastic. Im also disappointed with the poor gas mileage(4.6L V8: 13 - 14 MPG.)

I just traded my 02 Firehawk in and bought a black 02 Lightning a few weeks ago. I sure wish I had bought the "L" sooner, this thing is a blast to drive. Here in Texas we have a lot of truck owners, and when they see my shiny L drive by it sure turns heads. There are a lot of performance upgrades available, and it is easy to put the truck in the mid 11 sec 1/4mi times.

  • Great Truck - 2002 Ford F-150

This has been a great family vehicle. My family several trips during the year and this truck fits the bill. The interior is comfortable and the truck is fun to drive, And we can carry a large amount of luggage with us in the back. The only trouble has been a defective battery at 11000 miles, which the dealer replaced and the fold down console on the front seat had to be replaced because the leather seperated from the console. It was covered by the warrenty. I have been very please with my truck.

Ive owned my SuperCrew for just over two years now. I have 32k miles on it and just took it in for two minor repairs before the 36k mile warranty expires. A plastic trim piece under the front bumper developed cracks and the a seal of the sliding rear window came loose. Thats it. They replaced the whole rear window with a better design and the plastic trim piece was replaced as well. I have the 4.6L version and loaded on a long trip it will get 18 mpg. Amazing for something so huge.

Vehicle has had rear end whine since new, caused by irregular gear wear. Ford has been unable or unwilling to successfully fix vehicle. The whine continues to get louder with mileage. I am now faced with taking the financial loss of Fords defect because they refused to.

great performance truck. Drives like a car and has plenty of power from the start and more with mods. Only downside is dramatic increase in gas prices lately.

The Lariat is an outstanding combination of a work truck and a very nice (not luxury) auto. Sharp, handles well. Leather seats are great. Gauges and sound are superb.

  • Supercrews the best - 2002 Ford F-150

Supercrews are very nice. On the down-side, if you want to haul big things (like a few 2x4 or 4x8 sheet of anything) the bed is too short. Another downside -most of the Supercrews have the center console- pretty dumb, given that it takes away the ability to seat 6. The 4-door Japanese trucks feel small and ride like wagons. (And Im not talkin about station wagons) The Dodge has a great engine, but the finishing details lack. The same comments for the Chevrolet, but no great engine. For creature comforts, -Lariat. The big V-8 is a must. If you want gas- milage, may I suggest a Honda Insight? The Supercrew is hard to beat in any category.
