This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, Chevrolet has dropped the high-line LTZ trim level. Power-adjustable pedals, a DVD-based navigation system, automatically locking doors and XM Satellite Radio are new features this year. The instrument panel now sports a freshened monochromatic look. The North Face Edition package gets unique 17-inch wheels, while all models get new 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Pros:
  • Strong engine performance, comfortable highway ride, extensive features list, user-friendly controls.
Cons:
  • Skittish handling around corners, numb steering, generic interior design, low-grade interior materials.

  • A Female Owner/Drivers Perspective - 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Over the last seven years, I have gone from a Suburban to a Venture van, and now to the Trailblazer. The Trailblazer is definitely the better one for my money. It has the solid feel and comfort similar to the Suburban without the tank-like response. It has a sportier appearance while still giving me plenty of cargo room and better economy. Its a keeper.

I love driving my trailblazer! Remember this is not a luxury SUV and a basic 5 yr old model. After 60k mi this car drives like new. The engine is perfectly balanced and powered for the weight of the vehicle. When pulling heavy trailers feels if there was nothing behind. I still make 17-18 mpg. The level of comfort inside is fantastic, and I drive quite a bit in the city and highway. Chevy did a great job putting it together and really making this car a truly heavy duty car in every aspect from inside the hood to its logo. If kept well with services, and scheduled maintenance, you will find no problems, but the ones expected in a high mileage car. A car to drive for all purposes (literally)!!

Our first suv, have had two chevy trucks 79/86. The quality looks really good to me, have only had it a week now, no problems found yet. We are extremely happy with the deal we got, had a $1000 certificate from the truck. Got it for $9000 off sticker. Big discounts available right now. Everytime my wife drives it she gets out with a big smile on her face.

Bought this TB used with 30,000 miles. Have had nothing but good luck with it. I beat the hell out of this car (muddin and taking my toys out) and still have had zero problems with it (knock on wood). The I6 is an awesome engine, can hardly feel any difference when towing. The 4X4 is mountain goat strong - go anywhere. Comfortable for long trips, even to sleep in for a few days. Massive amounts of interior storage. All in all a good truck. Traded in from a Nissan Xterra - this is on par with an Xterra. Just a whole lot cheaper due to GMs crap resale value. Ground clearance stinks however, had to put a 3" lift on it - althought 98% will never leave pavement - still good offroad

  • Poor reliability - 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

I bought the car new and discovered the driver side window worked very slow. Dealer replaced motor three times and worked on it on at least 10 visits. Never was fixed! Transmission went out at 70000 miles. Car was never driven hard and perfectly maintained. Numerous problems with emission air motors to the tune of $200 a pop. Had to replace the drivers side hub assembly, (bad bearing), $350. Oil gauge stopped working at 85000 miles. Change oil light very difficult to reset. Rubber seal on back doors had to be re glued twice. Engine runs very well with no problems, have used nothing but synthetic oil for life of car. Radio lighting goes on and off. No Low Fan control for AC or heat.

  • Great vehicle - 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Ive had it 3 months now and I love the vehicle. Fuel economy is about the same as what I had with my Grand Cherokee so no surprises there; however, this vehicle has much more power. I havent owned a Chevrolet since 1981; Im glad I switched back. All vehicles should have a system similar to ONSTAR. It is such a great safety/convenience feature.

  • Handling - 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Change the shocks, they come with street car shocks. When I bought my 04 it did not handle will, Brian the service manager, sent me over to a front in shop and they put on new truck style shocks for 4WD units ($500.00) man what a change, had a better ride, no more lean around corners, no rolling from side to side when changing lanes, also my CHP friend had a lager Chev SUV he also changed out the shocks, big improvement to his ride. I have 98,900 mile on mine. I would buy another one, but please tell the people at GM wake up guys and put better shocks on from the factor..

  • Speedometer Failure - 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
    By -

I am happy with the Trailblazer, its wonderful for road trips even though gas mileage is an issue. My complaint is the instrument panel failure at 45,000 miles and no help from GM or the dealership, and from what I have read on the Internet this is a common problem with this year of TBs. It will be my last GM product.
