This Year's Model Updates:

The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

  • My Impala SS Experience - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I love my Impala SS. Ive had it for almost 2 years and it still runs like a charm. Ive had no problems whatsoever with it. It drives great in rain, sleet or snow. I feel safe driving it in any weather. My three children ages 7, 11, and 12 all fit comfortably in the back seat. My son is 56 and has plenty of leg room in the back. They dont even touch elbows! I especially like driving on the highway. This car sure has some "get up and go"! I never worry about playing "chicken" to pass a "Sunday driver". That engine kicks in and I always have plenty of time to pass when needed. Out of the 5 vehicles Ive owned in my life, my Impala SS is definitely my favorite!

  • Many Problems - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Overall I would have to say that I do enjoy the car when it isnt back at the dealership getting serviced. I have had problems with the brakes squeeking, rotors going bad, sunroof sticking, and as a result of the sunroof my headliner has been dripping water like crazy. Also the stereo fades in and out. Oh, and "6 speaker system", dont plan on finding the other 2 speakers, there is only 4. The performance isnt what I figured it would be for an SS, but hey cant get everything.

  • Bad Glass - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

The windshield on my car broke a couple of months ago. Whatever glass the factory was using was poor quality. The windshield got a rockchip and it instantly cracked all the way to the edge ensuring repairs were not optional. The replacement that I received didnt have the black dots and now it looks really stupid. There is a very noticable black cord for the lights on the mirror that is very visable now. Having less than 4000 miles on the car I was very disappointed. Also no child locks on the back doors.

Silver. sunroof, ONSTAR, almost every option except leather, deleted spoiler for better rear view vision. Have 3K on the odometer, pleased so far. Except for oil changes no scheduled maintenance til 100K. Shopped Grand Prix, Camry, Accord, etc. Lots of car for the money.

  • Disappointing Mileage for 3.4L - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Overall this 04 Impala is great! Its a good solid car and comfy to drive. Disappointed with fuel mileage. Top mileage for this 3.4L has only been 27.3 MPG. Besides everyday use, I use it to haul kayaks and bicycles . Had spoiler and alloy wheels installed. It has never let me down, though. Had a 2001 base Impala that was horrible. It spent more time in service department than on the road. Feel 04 Impala was overpriced but got a $4000 rebate and good price on trade-in. Yes, I would buy another base Impala. No car is perfect.

Just bought this Chevy 2 weeks ago. I deem it the best value you can get at the price I paid -$12,000 with 15500 miles as a former rental. It feels like a big comfy couch inside, like the 90 Lumina. Dummy gauges are abundant because of their "message center" that tells you just about everything you need to know. Big trunk, big bench seat, great stuff. Consumer Reports called the interior "borderline offensive" because of all the plastic, but I say theres nothing better looking and smelling than Armor-All on plastic pieces. If you are entirely utilitarian like me, get this nice family car. The only minus I have is that you need to step on the gas pedal a second before you really want to go

  • Outside looks great, but that interior.. - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

The Impala SS is an interesting one. On one hand, the exterior changes make this look sporty and aggressive, much better than the base and LS models. The interior needs some of those changes. Decent power, but not what I expected from the supercharged engine. Gas mileage is great for a car this size, and it is very roomy. This is a very well built and solid car. I thought the interior could use several improvements.

  • Second Impala - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

This is the second Impala I have owned. The other was a 2001. Needs redesign but this has been an excellent value. I used my GM card rebate to save $2,200 after I made the deal. (You must not carry a monthly balance on your card to save any money). Looking forward to my third. The first Impala had a leaking seal on the front after 10,000 miles. The current Impala has 12,000 miles and has not been back to the dealer except for oil changes

  • Just off the lot and havig fun - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Good car with nice standard features for a decent price and mileage for a large room car. It looks small on the outside, but feels big on the inside. Love the dual climate control feature.
