Overview & Reviews
The supercharged Impala SS joins the lineup for 2004. Besides offering 240 horsepower, the SS features a tightened suspension to allow it to take corners with a bit more gusto. Base and LS models have redesigned bench and bucket seats, and a sport appearance package is now available on the base sedan.
- Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
- Vague steering, soggy suspension on base and LS models, low-buck interior.

Nice Car - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By jrydel - September 22 - 10:00 amNice car. Ride is a little harsh. Good handling and great gas mileage. Fun to drive, but is not all it should be. See suggested improvements. A little pricey for the SS compared to other makes such as Nissan Maxima, etc.

Some Problems - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By Don - May 11 - 6:26 pmThis is a fun car to drive. We have had some problems with the engine/SS/fuel injectors. The car is still under warranty. The car begins to sputter driving over 40 mph when you hit the gas peddle. Also, the power steering seems to be going out. Something loose in the column and getting harder to turn when driving slower. Chevy dealers cant seem to find the problem.

Impala a decent car for the money - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By Woggy - April 28 - 9:50 amWhile it isnt the Impala of the 60s the 2004 Impala is still a pretty decent car. Solid build structure (withstood a concrete truck backing into front end very well). Fuel economy is not excellent but good for a car this size. No major component breakdowns yet. Just quite a few more minor annoyances. Brake part frequent servicing,a number of worrying, but so far harmless, noises of varying types. Comfortable to drive, reasonable quite ride, good handling. Has been a 7.5 out of 10 on overall satisfaction. Lots of trunk space, especially with fold down rear seats. Standard stereo not outstanding but more than adequate. Exterior finish good to very good. Horn stinks, intend to replace it.

Overall Satisfaction - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By 04 Impala LS - January 5 - 12:11 pmVery satisfied. Gas mileage not as much as I thought would be about 24 mpg. A few warranty issues with brakes and rotors, speedometer, steering column, paint chipping on volume button for steering wheel. Luckily everything covered under warranty. Very nice car otherwise

Best Car Ive owned so far - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By Chris William - December 13 - 6:25 pmIve owned several cars, and I try to run them all until they give out. Ive owned Ford, Isuzu, Nissan and others, but this car has been the best. I drive 70 miles a day round trip and love the handling, acceleration and comfort. Even though others have gotten more MPG, I only get 26 on the highway. Also, if youre over 6ft tall like me, you will love the leg room in both the front and back. The only problem I have with the vehicle is the stereo system. I know people today are into a lot of bass, but I like my sound well rounded. This system puts a too much bass for me, and is difficult to adjust to just the right amount. Minor problem for a great car.

Half-way there - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By Big T - May 2 - 5:07 pmThis is a nice ride which has a lot going for it. The 280lb-ft of torque is above average. The car is big, roomy, comfortable, and has a huge frickin trunk. Interior and Exterior styling is OK. (In my opinion the 2006 has a better interior, but worse exterior.) An SS needs to be a V8 rear wheel drive. The 2006 get us SS fans half way there.

2004 Impala SS - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By RepeatChevyDriver - May 2 - 10:00 amHaving been tempted to purchase a new Impala SS in 1996 but not doing so and observing the cult following the model has had since 1996, it was intriguing to hear that a 2004 version was being built. The current SS will never have the same aura as the 94-96 rigs because of its FWD V6 configuration, but it is still a marked improvement over the base and LS models. The 2004 Impala SS is also a great bargain in comparison to other similarly equipped vehicles. It feels great to drive and has a lot of available acceleration at any speed. I may seriously consider trading it in, though, if the rumors are true and a RWD V8 Impala is on the way.

Good basic transportation - 2004 Chevrolet Impala
By chick molitor - March 16 - 9:38 pmThe Impala has been a good car for my needs as a sales rep, putting on over 50,000 miles a year. Nothing spectacular in performance, just good reliable transportation
