This Year's Model Updates:

Now into its third year of production, the Impala soldiers on as Chevrolet's bread-and-butter family sedan. Minor upgrades this year include standard dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo and LATCH child seat tether anchors. A leather-accented 60/40 split bench seat will be available later this year on LS models, and two new exterior colors have been added.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, good crash test scores, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, wallowy suspension,low-buck interior.

This is probably the best GM car I have ever owned and I have been buying them for 52 years. Excellent highway car, comfortable, tracks well, good response to the accelerator and is fun to drive. The car is also good on city driving trips, easy parking. Good fuel economy and very low maintenance costs. Only negative is wind noise on interstate roads.

I currently have over 140,000 miles on my 2002 Impala sedan. I love it. 32mpg or better on highway w/ac on. Original tires, tiger paws, changed at 78,000. On second set. Original frontt disc brakes went to 102,000 miles, rear brakes at 127,000. Did have manifold leak taken care of. Really been a great car

Extremely pleased with the Impala. I purchased the vehicle in Feb of 01, mainly as a pleasure vehicle. I owned a 96 Impala and can say that short of the acceleration of the 96 Impala, the remake has exceeded my expectations. On a recent 1500 mile trip with full load of luggage driving at average speed of 65mph, mileage was calculated at 31.5mpg. Smooth ride, smooth acceleration, quite, and just about the right size for ease of handling in tight spaces. I would recommend a buy of this vehicle to anyone. Traction control works fine, stereo sounds great. Only repair problem which was fixed in one day by dealer was side air bag sensor was defective.

  • Great Car! - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

I really like this car. Only problem is break rotors - Chevy needs to change suppler - Had a 97 Monte Carlo with 97,000 miles and never touched the breaks.

  • So far, so good. - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

3.8 engine - smooth, quiet, and responsive. Brakes - excellent. Transmission - smooth as silk (Chrysler, take note). Solid. Styling just different enough to generate excitement, but not goofy-looking like an Aztec. Heard many positives about this 3.8 engine; now I see why. Better legroom than most. Looked very seriously at the Accord and Camry - thinking about resale - but to say those cars are not in the same class is an understatement. Dozens of features that I will enjoy that are not engineered into or offered on those two. Trade-in isnt everything - the total driving experience counts for a lot.

When my lease was up on a 1999 Lincoln Continental, I decided to try the new Impala LS. I liked the luxury appointments such as sunroof, leather/heated seats, digital information center as well as the roominess. The 3.8L V6 has ample power and excellent fuel economy. The Impala is as roomy as my Continental and every bit as comfortable; at about half the price and cost of ownership. Outside of Corvette, this is probably the best overall value from GM. Great job, Chevrolet!!!

  • 17,000 miles and still love the car. - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Very solid feeling car. Rides as smoothly as much larger cars. (I have an Aurora too) Trunk at 18.6 cubic feet is incredibly large - blows all sedans away except maybe a Town Car. Seats are very comfortable - no comparison with any other car in this price range. The interior is quite handsome too. The all cast iron 3.8 V6 is basically indestructable. Oh yeah - the mileage is unbelievable for a car this size. It gets better mileage than lighter imports in this price range. It has a very high safety rating too - again better than most anything including the imports. Yeah, I love this car. No problems. Great value.

  • Tough to beat - 2002 Chevrolet Impala

A very pleasant surprise. Virtually all areas of the Impala rate (by me) very high. Ride, handling, creature comfort, engine response are all top notch. Fit and finish were flawless on delivery. Impala may have a lot of competition in the $30K area, but this car sells in the 23K to 25K range. A real no brainer for anyone without money to burn.

This vehicle has provided great reliability (oil changes and 1 set of brake pads @50000 miles), exceptional gas mileage(when I drive consertively I get 32/35 MPG), lots of room, good comfort, performance when required, acceptable styling and a good price. Im totally satisfied with the car and intend to buy another one in 2006. I think this car is the best value vehicle that GM or anyone else makes for this size car.
