This Year's Model Updates:

A six-speed SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) transmission is now optional on select 3 Series models, while a five-speed Steptronic automatic is now offered with the 330i Performance Package. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and hands-free wireless cell phone capability are now standard features on the sedan and wagon. There are new alloy wheel designs for the 325i, 325xi and 330xi Sport Package. All 330i sedans get a revised grille -- a new black grille instead of silver, with a lower grille combination of body color and black. All 3 Series coupes and convertibles receive a revised front fascia, plus new front and rear bumper contours, Adaptive headlamps and taillights and new designs for both the standard and optional wheels. Interior changes are limited to a revised climate control panel. Finally, Sirius Satellite Radio is now available as an accessory on all 3 Series models.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners
Cons:
  • Pricey for its market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

  • Always loved BMW... - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I have been in love with German Engineering and Styling but there may be a down side. Within 1800 miles the dealership had to put a new transmission in the vehicle. The car is now in a dealership 300 miles away from home due to a "porous head". Cylinder #1 filled with oil and the car smoked heavily out of the engine compartment and undercarriage. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem.

Exceptional handling and way fun to drive. Not as powerful as I thought it would be, at least here in Colorado. StepTronic is disappointing. Shifts very slow (1-2 seconds) in "manual" mode, and sometimes upshifts when you might not want it too. I should have bought a 5 speed. 4WD system is great. Harmon-Kardon stereo is weak, way not worth the extra $$. Climate control system is pretty unintuitive and hard to use until you get used to it. I want a 330xi with a 6-speed!

  • Great car, wish it had better mpg - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I have owned my 325i for 4 months now and so far I love the car. The only thing I am disappointed with so far is the fuel economy. I drive about 40 miles a day. Of that about 60% is highway and I get a average of 21-23 MPG. I tried changing driving habit and maintaining tire pressure and all I get is 24 mpg tops.

  • Delightful driving with the wind blowing - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Second BMW 330 ragtop owned. Delightful to drive but has two weaknesses. Underpowered even with the 225 HP six and engine sound is so flat you feel you are in a Yugo. Missing the muscular engine of previous 3 series. Has some body roll but is very tight for a convertible. Well built, few problems within first six months of ownership. Upgraded 18" wheels are beautiful and get compliments wherever I drive. Little wind noise at high speeds.

  • Stunning! A Dream Vehicle For Me... - 2004 BMW 3-Series

What an amazing vehicle. So much fun, so much pride, so sexy... Yet what is most important is how reactive this automobile can be in case you get into trouble and need to really stop on a dime or accelerate your way out of trouble. It handles every sense of your commands. Often I feel like it is pre- anticipating my every move just before I accomplish it. It is so very sure of itself that you drive her with little effort and with total ease and control as though you were a pilot on a Boeing airplane.

  • Better than Infiniti G35 - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I traded in my 03 G35 because it rode to stiff and had to much road noise. I could not be happier with my decision. This is a true drivers car, confortable and decent power (my G35 was much faster)with smooth delivery and quieter than the G35. I purchased a BLACK ext. with tan leather. The only 2 problems I had were the brake pedal and steering vibrated when I applied the brakes and at 200 miles the engine misfired (was running on 5 cyl). I had to pull over to then side of the road called BMW, they told me to turn the engine off then re-start it,the problem went away. I took it in for service the following week and they changed the no#3 coil and the rotors.

Love it, fast and fun! A real head turner.................

  • German reliability is an oxymoron - 2004 BMW 3-Series
    By -

My car with the 6 speed performance package is probably the most fun to drive machine on the road. The handling is superb and the engine growl is great. Ride is a bit stiff, but that should be expected from a true sport sedan. Ive had a number of warranty repairs and I sometimes question if I made the right choice. I definitely will dump this car for something more reliable when the warranty is up, even though Id really like to keep it. The thought of needing to pay the frequent repair bills is frightening.

  • Many Improvements Needed - 2004 BMW 3-Series
    By -

Ti silver 04 330Ci with sport and premium packages and Al trim. PROS: Extremely fun to drive on any road! Smooth, sleek, beautiful and sexy exterior & interior. Plenty HP and torque. Tight suspension. Precision steering. CONS: Has issues cold starting in winter months. The climate control is not intuitive and doesnt remember to recirculate air. Too much wind noise at 70 MPH. Lifting seats will smash the back passengers feet. Insufficient leg room for rear passengers. Horrendous brake dust problems on wheels. Quirky electronics: trunk light flickers, OBC inaccurate. 60 cycle hum out of speakers on all 3 Series w/wo premium HK sound. 1 CD in-dash player w/o song repeat.
