This Year's Model Updates:

A six-speed SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) transmission is now optional on select 3 Series models, while a five-speed Steptronic automatic is now offered with the 330i Performance Package. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and hands-free wireless cell phone capability are now standard features on the sedan and wagon. There are new alloy wheel designs for the 325i, 325xi and 330xi Sport Package. All 330i sedans get a revised grille -- a new black grille instead of silver, with a lower grille combination of body color and black. All 3 Series coupes and convertibles receive a revised front fascia, plus new front and rear bumper contours, Adaptive headlamps and taillights and new designs for both the standard and optional wheels. Interior changes are limited to a revised climate control panel. Finally, Sirius Satellite Radio is now available as an accessory on all 3 Series models.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive for sedan and wagon.
  • Luxurious, powerful, exceptional road manners
Cons:
  • Pricey for its market segment, limited rear-seat space and cargo capacity.

This vehicle surpasses all other sedans without question. BMW continues its legacy as the ultimate driving machine.

  • So far, so good - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I absolutely love this car. I take the long way home each day. I thought my V6 EX Honda Accord was a pretty good car. until I drove my 04 SP/6sp 330 Ci. I test drove the new Accord (coupe and sedan), S2000, and the Audi A4 1.8T before choosing this car. I tried to test drive an Infiniti G35 Coupe but was told I couldnt unless I put a deposit down. NO THANKS! The BMW dealers were fantastic!

Purchased for spouses daily driver, this well- engineered & executed auto meets both her needs and mine. For her, its a safe, comfortable car, easy-to-drive (w/ Steptronic); for me, its got plenty of handling and power to meet my needs for a bit of fun driving, have even been to track school. This car has turned me into a fan of RWD again, (and even in winter handles great with Dunlap Snows). And, nothing can beat the wonderfully smooth inline 6 the BMW has perfected. All in all, a great auto!

  • You can do better for this much money - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Ive had this car for 2500 miles now and can only say that it has the worst suspension, and drive by wire system imaginable. There is a 0.5 second delay after you hit the accelerator, and the car bounces, floats, and leans terribly regarding the suspension. The interior is nice and clean. However the performance suffers so greatly, I am going to have to upgrade both the suspension and software to make it livable. I thought it was the break in period, but alas, its made this way. Not recommended for anyone that owned a previous (E36 model years) BMW. The XI version drives more like an SUV than a sedan. For the money, its not worth it.

  • Great combo of Fun/Practical - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Purchased used w/ 18K miles almost 2 years ago. My driving is both suburban and highway, mostly conservative but I like to open it up once in a while. I drive about 20k per year. As title says, this car is a great combo of features when you have to use it to bring a kid to soccer practice, etc and like to "play" a bit. Not as comfortable on a long trip as our Volvo but its livable. We have extended service plan up to 100k and it is worth it as with almost all Euro cars everything is very expensive and BMW takes full advantage.

  • Great car - but probably overhyped. - 2004 BMW 3-Series

This is a great car and deservedly a benchmark for the class, but dont blindly drink the BMW kool-aid. Overall Im very happy with my purchase after a little over a year. There are faster, plusher, and overtly sportier cars, but really very few that do everything as well as the 330 does. As long as it stays reliable, Ill be a happy owner. Keep your expectations in check though as in 80% of everyday driving, many of the qualities of a 330 are pretty subtle improvements over the competition and even down-market vehicles. The superior handling, performance, ride often are most noticed by their absence when youre driving a different car...

  • Always loved BMW... - 2004 BMW 3-Series

I have been in love with German Engineering and Styling but there may be a down side. Within 1800 miles the dealership had to put a new transmission in the vehicle. The car is now in a dealership 300 miles away from home due to a "porous head". Cylinder #1 filled with oil and the car smoked heavily out of the engine compartment and undercarriage. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem.

Exceptional handling and way fun to drive. Not as powerful as I thought it would be, at least here in Colorado. StepTronic is disappointing. Shifts very slow (1-2 seconds) in "manual" mode, and sometimes upshifts when you might not want it too. I should have bought a 5 speed. 4WD system is great. Harmon-Kardon stereo is weak, way not worth the extra $$. Climate control system is pretty unintuitive and hard to use until you get used to it. I want a 330xi with a 6-speed!

When I walk into my garage and see this beautiful lipstick red convertible, it make me smile. I might be feeling blue that day but when I look at my car...it puts a smile on my face ear to ear!!!! Performs beautifully and the take off is the best.

  • No doubt...the best - 2004 BMW 3-Series

Have owned 325s, A4, & Passat in past and this car is simply the best. When compared to TL, G35, & even A4 it seems expensive at first, until you drive it for a few days. Sticks to the road with minimal road noise, doesnt give you a back/buttache on long trips and still provides the panache of a BMW. Power is steady to redline with tire grip and brakes to give you confidence to take on any corner and have the ability to correct any driver mistake. I have 12,000 miles on mine with no problems to date. Still have not driven it in snow but it drives like its on rails thru heavy rain. Xenon lamps are worth the extra expense.
