Overview & Reviews
Volkswagen's compact Rabbit receives a welcome infusion of power for 2008, celebrated with a modified moniker as it's now called the Rabbit S.
- Roomy and upscale cabin, comfortable ride, high crash test scores, impressive build quality.
- Well-equipped four-door has high base price, a bit too vanilla when compared to sleeker rivals.

Rabbit high cost maintenance - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By Jeff - November 4 - 10:13 pmI bought this car after owning a Subaru Forester for 4 years. I decided that I no longer needed all wheel drive and wanted something a bit smaller and economical to own/drive. I take the car in for routine maintenance as required. I was a bit disappointed when at my last service of 19,400 miles I was told I needed new rear brakes. This is before fronts. VW tells me this is common to use rears that fast. Cost to replace $465 at dealer (did not have it done there, instead opted for local repair garage). If you had to do this every 19,000 miles it does not make this care economical to drive. I am told all VWs go through brakes that fast.

So far, so good - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By Tony - October 10 - 2:10 pmIve had my 08 rabbit for almost a year now and havent had any major complaints so far. I actually like the placement of the iPod dock in the center console since it hides it from prying eyes. I dont like the way the radio system controls it though. The interior is nice (and very well laid out) and roomy and Im pretty tall. Everyone that has been inside the rabbit always comments on how much room they have, even in the back seat. The side panels on the interior do scuff pretty easily though, but they are also easy to clean. On the road it feels like a substantial car, but is easy to toss around.

Love the Wabbit - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By Raymond - August 31 - 10:50 amBought car expecting to like it. Didnt expect to LOVE it. I needed something cheap to insure, and was still fun and good on gas/emissions. This best fit the bill after many test drives of the competition. Couldnt be happier. Value for the buck is truly the key here.

Best value and safety - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By itqaanalyst - August 1 - 6:00 amI wanted a hatchback and this is the best game in town. The car has a very upscale feel and the fit and finish is superb. The car has great safety features and great cash test scores. We have a 2007 Jetta and love it... it sold me on the Rabbit idea.

Down but not out - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By pkwan - July 7 - 7:40 amFound hard time and downgraded from driving Mercedes E/SLK/S to Nissans. Never happy with them. Tinny and whiny. What do I do? Eureka! Found salvation in this bunny that captures the essence of German road feel big time; cost less than Mazda 3 sport comparable equipped where I live. Yes, the engine is a bit noisy, and road noise is somewhat high, but what the heck. This is supposed to be an economy car. I never thought about VW because of the bad rep re: reliability. Regardless whether it will hold up for a few years, I am VERY happy.

Best purchase - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By Christina - June 29 - 6:16 amThis is my third car and by far my favorite. I enjoy everything about this car. You can still fit 5 adults in the car even though from the outside wouldnt think so. I havent had any issues with the car at all. I take it to the dealership and Im treated like a princess every time I go there for whatever reason it is. Volkswagen overall has impressed with me with their product and service.

Fantastic Car overall - I love my Rabbit - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By admission - May 23 - 3:53 amI drive mostly city in San Francisco, and it handles the bumps just fine. Zips in and out of traffic. 5sp manual is much easier to manage vs. my old 2000 passat 6cyl. Lacking torque just a bit at the very low end, but you can start from 2mph in 2nd if its flat terrain. Interior materials are fantastic. On mostly city driving with hills, Im getting 17mpg (but its San Francisco). I estimate pure hwy at 29, but I got 30 in my Passat V6. Same passenger volume as in B5 Passat! This is ingenious! On reliability: had valve problem - dealer replaced entire cylinder head, and car was in shop for 3 weeks.

Love my new Bunny - 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
By Redbox - April 1 - 3:30 amI just got my new bunny a week ago, I love it. It got its baptism, not by fire, but 8 inches of snow. My previous vehicle was an 00 Tracker, 4WD, and I was concerned about not having the 4WD. I was pleased with the traction control, having not driven FWD for years. Very pleased with everything. I currently have 242 miles on a little less than 3/4 of a tank gas. I think the mileage will be fine. In summary, Farfegnugen!! I never thought I would own a VW.
