Overview & Reviews
The Boxster is slowly adding features and options. This year, a Classic Package includes metallic paint and all-leather seats, and adds special highlights to the interior. The gas tank is increased from a 12.5- to a 14.1-gallon capacity, and gas-discharge Litronic headlights are optional. All the features in the Sport Package are individually optional this year, and 18-inch wheels are now available.
- Weak stereo, and the BMW M Roadster offers more power.

Great Fun Car - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Ski - November 16 - 2:00 amWhat a great car! It makes my day each time I drive it. Handles well out of the box, but 1999 could use more power (more fun). Excellent service and NO PROBLEMS.

99 Boxster is excellent 2nd owner car! - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Maria Vitakis - April 5 - 10:50 amThis older model, low-end Porsche drives better than any of the top of the line cars from other manufacturers. It is quick, solid and takes curves better than any other car on the road. After a year and a half my daily work commute is still an exciting experience. I can drive anywhere, park anywhere and the valets fight for my keys! If this is Porsches basic model, I cant even imagine what a Carrera must be like.

Fun Car - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By flyguy - August 18 - 3:56 pmOwning a Porsche Boxster is a lot of fun. They handle great. It only seats two passenagers, but that can be good too. ;) Oil changes are pricy, but they only need to be done every 5,000 miles ($160).

1999 Porsche Boxster - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Ken S - May 25 - 6:20 pmThis car is fun to drive and has superb performance and handling. This car is "one with the road". Its low center of gravity and mid-engine design are the keys to its stability and agility. I bought this car in Germany and routinely drove it on the Autobahn at 120+ mph. It has solid positive control at all speeds. Likewise, it handles like a jungle cat on the mountain switchbacks. It doesnt have an overpowered engine, but with the proper driving skills, this car will do anything you want it to. The exterior styling is sleek and attractive, suggesting speed and performance.

By JUST RIGHT FOR ME - March 27 - 11:00 amMy boxster is not the fastest sports car out there, but boy is it fun to drive. It handles better than any car I have every driven and is not bad on gas.

1999 986 Porsche Boxster - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By jccash - August 22 - 7:14 amWe have 158,000 miles on our 1999 Boxster. We enjoy this car and its fun to own and drive. Drive it to beach resorts including Myrtle Beach from Longwood, Florida. When I have an issue I take it to Porsche of Orlando and Bruce Cameron and team in the service department take care of us. For the money these older 986s are a great deal. Fun to drive, handles well. I did replace the radio and speakers installing a Kenwood and Focal speakers). I may buy a newer Boxster in the future, but right now we are not in a hurry. 2013 and up Boxter or Caymans are amazing and Porsche of Orlando gives me a loaner when I make an appointment for service.

My Boxster has no substitute - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Tig Nash - July 9 - 9:40 pmAfter many hours of research on a convertible I thought a Benz was the way to go. Fortunately, I test drove the Boxter as well. No comparison! This car handles like nothing I have ever driven. And the response of the engine is that of a finely tuned machine. The design is sleek, sexy and powerful and taking a curve at 60+ miles and hour instead of the posted 25 is the best weekend thrill! This is what driving is all about and those that think an SUV is the way to go, well, you have no idea what youre missing. There is no substitute - Porsche has it figured out.

Great car - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Susan - February 15 - 11:30 pmIve had this car 6 years and have really loved it. Mechanically, Ive really havent had any big issues outside of changing 7 headlights (this may be specific to the electrical system in my car). Also if you are hit and run while parked, I promise no one is going leave a note with insurance information (happened twice). Lastly probably as a result of the beautiful aerodynamic body design, I have had more dings in my windshield than I can count (I have 5 right now - Ill get to 6 and change out the windshield again). If you can see past these very minor issues, I would guess youd be very happy to own this car. I have been.

Nothing Better - 1999 Porsche Boxster
By Rob Wilson-Black - February 6 - 3:43 pmThe Boxster is a great every day driving car, but ice can be a challenge without specific tire changes. Be careful never to let water into the air intakes on the side of the body, especially while washing your car, as this can lead to serious engine trouble. The classic body holds its beauty and theres nothing more fun to drive, except for the 911 obviously. This car is great for kids in the passengers seat because one can off the airbag. The 1999 year is among the best for engine reliability and Consumer Reports agrees with that in years past. What a value for the dollar. It loses only about $3,200 dollars per year in value. It is the cheapest sports car and there are tons of used ones are out there. European delivery was the best.
