I agree, I bought my car just by the look and test drive. I should have known that when I drove off the lot after signing papers something would go wrong. Since March last year I have had my car in the shop about 7 times, all to get the transmission replaced. When I bought the car I did not know about this site. I have finally gotten my car fixed right and its wonderful.

  • Totally Disappointed - 2000 Mazda 626

Purchased the 626 used at 60k mi. Now have around 173k and on the 3rd transmission, which is now going out after 31k miles. Thats $2,200 for the transmission that lasted less than 2yrs. Beyond that, Ive went through many a hot months without AC, after spending 800 to repair it. But hey, it has an oscillating vent that still works!! Truly a bad piece of machinery.

  • My third 626 - 2000 Mazda 626

This is my third Mazda 626 and each has been practically maintenance-free. Each successive model has improved comfort, more features, and better drive and power. The best sedan for the money.

  • Its all relative, right? - 2000 Mazda 626

I just got my 2000 ESV6 yesterday. Obviously it was used, but it was pretty low mileage. The 626 has plenty of power, but since I have the automatic, it does sometimes do some wonky things. I am sure that if I were used to, say, Lexus or Acura, I wouldnt like the car as much as I do, but...boy, do I love this car. It is such a big step up from what I am used to. I have noticed that it has a lack of power when climbing really steep hills.

  • Almost 120,000 miles in 6 years!! - 2000 Mazda 626

Ive driven this car A LOT -- long road trips, extended periods of stop & go local driving, and commuting up a mountain and back 6 days a week for almost 2 years. It is very comfortable. The only downside is the tiny engine. Ive maintained my car well and it now has 163,000+ miles. I am finally in need of a new one. The struts are shot and so are my motor mounts. I think these issues may have been caused, in part, by my driving around for a month with a broken sway-bar link (part of the suspension). Ive never had a problem with my transmission, or engine. Id get my car fixed, but with 163,000+ miles it is hard to say how much longer the transmission will last...Ill miss my car :-/

  • 2000 mazda 6 with 281k miles and still running! - 2000 Mazda 626
    By -

i bought this car new in 5/00 with 16 miles. since then, i now have over 281,000 miles on it and its still running strong. A/C replaced 2 yrs ago, front axles replaced last year and transmission is going out (5 sp man), but with almost all highway miles, im going to drive it into the ground. otherwise, runs smooth, good pick up, comfortableand gets me there and back reliably! happy enough that we bought a 2009 mazda 6 that my wife now drives around!

  • Pull the Transmission - 2000 Mazda 626

Good vehicle in most areas except very poor experence with automatic transmission. Major transmission repairs at 70,000 and again at 97,000. Automatic transmisson is Ford designed and does not provide the same quality as Mazda.

  • Our Doubleought Freeport w/clutch - 2000 Mazda 626

For our first New car, thru much research (thanx Edmunds),this was the best buy for our bucks. The 130 ponies may not be enough for some but coupled with the 5spd we are having with a blast. Weve had ONE recall which was no big deal because our 626s brake reservoir cap had the vent in place. The only time she sees the inside of a garage is for oil change and other preventive stuff.

  • Incredible Value - 2000 Mazda 626
    By -

Compared with the Accord and Camry, the V6 isnt as powerful and it doesnt have the name recognition, but its thousands of dollars less. With traction control, ABS, dual front and side airbags, 6 disc in dash CD changer, V6, large back seat, alloy wheels, moonroof, etc. it came to just a hair over 20k new. No other car gives you this much luxury for the money, and since they dont hold value as well as the Honda or Toyota they become even better values used.

  • Not satisfied - 2000 Mazda 626
    By -

We were not satisfied with this vehicle at all. We have had nothing but problems with it and the parts and maintenance are expensive for this car. It has been in the shop several times for major work before it even hit 30,000 miles. It now has 65,000 miles and still nothing but trouble. We have decided to never own a Mazda or Ford due to the problems we have had.
