Review: - 2000 Mazda 626
By Shellee - April 8 - 3:16 pmI agree, I bought my car just by the look and test drive. I should have known that when I drove off the lot after signing papers something would go wrong. Since March last year I have had my car in the shop about 7 times, all to get the transmission replaced. When I bought the car I did not know about this site. I have finally gotten my car fixed right and its wonderful.

Almost 120,000 miles in 6 years!! - 2000 Mazda 626
By CR - September 28 - 12:36 amIve driven this car A LOT -- long road trips, extended periods of stop & go local driving, and commuting up a mountain and back 6 days a week for almost 2 years. It is very comfortable. The only downside is the tiny engine. Ive maintained my car well and it now has 163,000+ miles. I am finally in need of a new one. The struts are shot and so are my motor mounts. I think these issues may have been caused, in part, by my driving around for a month with a broken sway-bar link (part of the suspension). Ive never had a problem with my transmission, or engine. Id get my car fixed, but with 163,000+ miles it is hard to say how much longer the transmission will last...Ill miss my car :-/

2000 mazda 6 with 281k miles and still running! - 2000 Mazda 626
By tamoshanter - September 23 - 8:17 pmi bought this car new in 5/00 with 16 miles. since then, i now have over 281,000 miles on it and its still running strong. A/C replaced 2 yrs ago, front axles replaced last year and transmission is going out (5 sp man), but with almost all highway miles, im going to drive it into the ground. otherwise, runs smooth, good pick up, comfortableand gets me there and back reliably! happy enough that we bought a 2009 mazda 6 that my wife now drives around!

Pull the Transmission - 2000 Mazda 626
By Glynn - June 23 - 3:53 amGood vehicle in most areas except very poor experence with automatic transmission. Major transmission repairs at 70,000 and again at 97,000. Automatic transmisson is Ford designed and does not provide the same quality as Mazda.

Our Doubleought Freeport w/clutch - 2000 Mazda 626
By SkiBry 1 - March 15 - 12:10 amFor our first New car, thru much research (thanx Edmunds),this was the best buy for our bucks. The 130 ponies may not be enough for some but coupled with the 5spd we are having with a blast. Weve had ONE recall which was no big deal because our 626s brake reservoir cap had the vent in place. The only time she sees the inside of a garage is for oil change and other preventive stuff.

Incredible Value - 2000 Mazda 626
By Rich - January 24 - 1:40 amCompared with the Accord and Camry, the V6 isnt as powerful and it doesnt have the name recognition, but its thousands of dollars less. With traction control, ABS, dual front and side airbags, 6 disc in dash CD changer, V6, large back seat, alloy wheels, moonroof, etc. it came to just a hair over 20k new. No other car gives you this much luxury for the money, and since they dont hold value as well as the Honda or Toyota they become even better values used.

We love our DoubleOught - 2000 Mazda 626
By Bryan Epley - August 8 - 10:06 pmWe have made our final payment on the zoom/zoom and we only have 59K hassel free miles.Thanx to Edmunds we researched and paid for a reliable auto. Ours has 130 ponies bridled to a left-leg flexor and feel this combo is the most fun, cost conscience way to get around.

Good deal for the money - 2000 Mazda 626
By randow2 - June 9 - 2:00 amI purchased this car at a year old and have put about 24K miles in two years. This car has shifting problems (a clunk) when slowing down from a slow speed which has been previously reviewed. Wind noise is a bit aggravating at high speed. Fuel economy, power (nice power!), driving stability (up to about 80-85 mph....the car tends to liftfrom the road at higher speeds, so... dont speed!), handling and fit and finish are comparable to my 95 Camry and to two Hondas I have had. Nice stereo. Overall good bang for the buck if you dont have luxury car bucks.

Good car - 2000 Mazda 626
By Chris - April 10 - 4:10 pmI bought my 2000 626 July of 2004, and it has been a good car. I get 31 MPG on each tank so that is nice with gas prices on the rise. The only issue we have had is with the brakes wearing out too quickly, and the shop replaced them for free so that could have been the mechanics error. Overall a great car. I had the 2000 Toyota Camry and the 626 isnt too far off. The 4 cylinder is a little weak on the pick up, but the gas mileage makes up for it a bit.

Comes up short but ... - 2000 Mazda 626
By cadjocky - January 29 - 2:00 amMy 2000 626ES was purchased instead of the Honda or Toyota based on price. The car handles great, rides nice, but the engine is too buzzy and quite underpowered. I thought I could get used to that, but I long for more power without seeing the tach at 6000 rpm. The interior looks like a million bucks and I dont think anybody makes a better one in this price range. The transmission is easily the worst feature of the car with rough shifts and an annoying tendancy to slam into gear after coasting. I thought I may have just gotten a bad transmission but after it failed and was replaced by an equally bad shifting transmission I think it is just a bad design.
