Pros:
  • Stylish interior, rugged exterior, roomy rear seat.
Cons:
  • Disconnected steering feel, lousy 4WD button placement.

  • Do Not Buy it - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I have been having problems with the car right from the start. 1st yr, a side door wire short. Had to leave my car with the dealer for 4 days before they could figure it out. 2nd yr, the electric on the remote key entry got screwed up. 3rd yr, The problem with the wire short resurfaced, the dealer kept the car for 2 days, the car was out of warranty, left me with a bill for 500. 4th yr, an engine noise started dealer said, carbon build up in the engine, fuel light always on, another 350 bucks...rear axle seal rupture. Did the 60k servicing, out for 1500 bucks, engine noise persists. Last year itself I have spent 2500 for the car. FOOBARED DO NOT BUY.

  • Looks good... but very problematic - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

It looked and felt good when I bought it (used) a year ago. But then the problems kept on coming. As much as I liked the look and ride... it kept finding its way into the shop. This thing is NOT durable at all. Its an SUV alright... but you cant treat it like one.

Two weeks of owning this SUV and the infamous EGR code came up. I tried everything, cleaning out the intake holes, an intake fume flush kit and finally changed the EGR valve. 160.00 NOPE, and then the fuel gauge problem where it would drop to 0 and the light would flash. So I took the dash apart and placed black tape over both of them. Voila. No more lights ever again and back to happy motoring.

I bought my Rodeo from Carmax with 16k on it after a year. Until recently I have had only minor problems-the cassette deck would not eject (fixed under warranty); the check engine light came on at 25k(took it to the dealer only to find out that the gas cap was not screwed on past 3 clicks more than 9 months before - before I purchased the vehicle); when unlocking the rear door with the key, I broke the lock. Then the rear window would intermittently jam - this one took at least 6 dealer trips to fix. Now at 65k, the ABS has failed and the check engine light is on. I want to buy a toyota truck.

  • Very Good SUV - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

Have had this SUV for about 3& half years, with 41,000 miles. Has been very, very reliable. Noticed someone else wrote their fuel sensor is bad, mine also is borken and always reads "E". Other than that not one problem, nothing. Love the pick-up and the transmission shifts very smoothly. Want to get another Isuzu but hate to let this one go. Its still under power train warranty and has been so good to me.

  • I wouldnt drive anything else - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I got it when my base model 96 rodeo was dying (almost 300000 miles), and it was everything I wanted in a vehicle. I love how it still feels like a truck instead of a car and it gets up and goes in a pinch. The 5 speed is greatly welcome. My gas gage is one of the few that still works, but it burns oil and its fuel pump is dying. But its got great room and is fun on long road trips with my friend.

Bought used in 3/05 & had problems right away. Fuel gauge broken, ABS light always on, rear lights all messed up, & hard down-shifting. All were fixed at the dealerships expense at the tune of $800.00! I have replaced rear wiring harnesses & sway bar links for $300.00. Was told by great garage of unusual 1/2-inch sludge on transmission magnet ... very bad sign of huge transmission problem. This was discovered while in the shop for a new solenoid. Seems like problem after problem. Shame, because its a roomy, fast ride. Seats are hard and the spare squeaks all the way down the road on the back tailgate. Would not recommend. Not worth the money or hassles.

  • I hate this car!!!! - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I had to have the clutch replaced at 22000! I have driven stick shift cars for over 15 years, and never had a clutch go out that fast. My 96 GMC Somona was a 5 speed; had over 120,000K - and I traded for this crap! This truck rides horribly - you feel each and every bump. The original stereo was a piece of crap. Its had at least 4 recalls. It does get very good can mileage - about 20 MPG. The worst thing about this car is the devaluation! My car was purchased for about $19,500 in 1999. The car is currently in Outstanding condition, but is only worth about $5000 per Edmunds & Carmax - so Im stuck with a car that Im about $2000 upside down on.

  • Broken-in - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

This truck is fun to drive. Off road it handles well. However, Ive lost 2 sets of front bumpers with minor taps. The seats are very unconforibel for long drives.

  • Total Lemon of a Car - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

This has been the worst car I have ever owned. Two weeks after I purchased the car new, the gas pedal broke. The next thing that broke was the lever used to recline the drivers seat. At 48,868 miles (11/02), the ABS module went bad. At, 55,886 miles, the intake gaskets on the engine are leaking which is causing the 3rd cyclinder to misfire. Additionally, the AC compressor is going bad and the sending unit in the fuel system is bad causing the feul light to blink continously and the gas needle to stay on empty. DONT BUY IZUZU IF YOU WANT VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY!!!!!
