Overview & Reviews
The Explorer Sport Trac enters 2002 with slightly more power and torque from its 4.0-liter V6 engine, some new exterior colors and a simplified options list. You can now also get an automatic transmission with the value package.
- Unique combination of pickup truck and midsize SUV, strong V6, power-down rear glass improves versatility, comfortable seats front and rear, surprisingly good off-road capability.

Love my little truck - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By JCJsMom - November 22 - 2:00 amIve never personally owned a truck/SUV BUT I would do it again in a heart beat. I love this little truck with a huge heart. Has everything I wanted on a truck..except the size and bulkiness. I can carry what I need to and still have the inside room for 4-5 people. The rear air and radio with ear phone plug in is great for the kids..BUT I love my little truck just to drive!

Lovin my ST so far - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By JerichoJeff - November 17 - 11:30 amBought our ST as a utility vehicle for around the house; we needed a truck with 4 drs and a real back seat. Our ST is exactly what we were looking for. It handles well, rides wonderfully, and is super comfortable inside, even in the back seat (Im 61", and can sit very comfortably in the back). Its a great looking vehicle too. Ive received continuous comments on it since getting it. The roof rails are great, and allowed me to attach my bike rack to the top in minutes. The tie downs in the back are excellent, as well as the composite bed. So far, the only thing weve had to be concerned about is the fuel economy. But really, its no better or worse on gas than any other truck. We love it!

Awesome truck! - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Moms Ride - October 14 - 11:26 pmI love this truck! Not only does it look good, but it handles great too, in all kinds of weather and all kinds of terrain. Parking is a breeze, because it turns on a dime. The 4 doors help to make family living convenient, as well as shopping, with the fold down seats. I will definitely buy another!

A Long Wait....A Quick Disappointment - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By KO4321 - October 4 - 2:00 amThis brand new truck was purchased as a college graduation present to myself. Nine months later, I had to be given a brand new engine. My dealership was excellent through all of my problems. But, I felt Ford should have shown me some type of support (even just a letter of apology). A year and a half and 2 recalls later, I am very disappointed not only in the quality of this vehicle but in the lack of customer service that Ford has shown me. Without the tonneau cover, the back is too light and slides in rain and snow.I am young, and will own several more cars in the future. However, none of them will be a Ford.

Like the Truck, Hate the Service Support - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By GSFuller - July 16 - 12:23 pmI bought the truck for the functionality - to transport my family and cargo at the same time. I chose it over the Dakota because it drove like a car - which it is. This vehicle is not as durable as a truck and should not be treated as such. But for a suburbanite, I like it a lot. It has things break on it a lot and I am thankful for the warranty. Too bad the dealership is so unsupportive. I see it as a great alternative to a wagon but not to a pick up truck. Treat it gently and it will perform well. Great speed but poor mileage (18 - 20 mpg).

Problem Child - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Sara - July 6 - 7:00 pmBought this truck a year ago and had nothing but problems. First the battery needed to be replaced a week after I bought it. I had to replaced a hose that was causing my engine light to come on 2 months after I bought it, it was figured out after two appts at the shop. My back driver side door does not open from the inside, I have to let everyone out by opening their door. My ABS kicks in when it should not kick in causing me to spend numorous visits to the mechanic. Turns out, I have to spend the big bucks and take it to the Ford dealer. Lastly, which is not diagnosed yet but Ive been told my alternater needs work. It just never ends with this truck.

Best auto investment yet - 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
By Joe Sonnier - May 3 - 7:23 amI bought my Sport Trac w/ 44k miles on it, outside of routine maintenance the only thing Ive had to replace was a new hub due to off roading. The interior is very comfortable, great for commuting, camping, and overall driving. I live in Alaska and I havent had a vehicle this reliable in the winter (started right up in -20 weather!) It has room for the kids, but extra hauling space in the bed, as well as great towing capacity for its size. Excellent truck for family camping trips and small enough to take on most ATV trails provided theres not too much mud!
