This Year's Model Updates:

The 2004 Ford Escape remains largely unchanged although the price has been lowered on the plush Limited model and certain appearance packages are now available on lower trim levels which, in effect, reduce the final price. Also, Chrome Yellow is no longer a color choice. To eliminate confusion, trim levels and option packages have been consolidated.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling.
Cons:
  • Weak standard four-cylinder engine, bland interior design, small gas tank size limits range.

Cover Sheet Name: Hannah Gehlhaar Subject: 2004 Ford Escape XLT 4x4 Category: Suv Cars and Trucks Audience: New car buyers, Existing car buyers, People looking to review this type of car Important Audience Concerns: A lot of people like being able to drive and SUV and Trucks that they can feel safe in and I want to show when the Ford Escape is Publication venue for review-(Website) www.everyauto.com Venue Choice-I thought there reviews looked very reliable Hannah Gehlhaar Prof Evans English 1101 Writing a Review 2004 Ford Escape XLT The experience and privilege to be able to drive and SUV compared to a car gives you a greater chance of safety on the roads. Driving in a Ford escapes makes people feel so much more comfortable knowing that they are off the ground and the SUV is built to take on high forces. You are able to take on greater obstacles in everyday driving than you are in a small car. My 2004 Ford escape XLT enables you to be able to drive in all kinds of different weather conditions such as ice, snow and storms with having 4X4. Having 4x4 has more pros than cons. The pros of having it is you have a tremendous difference on control My 2004 Ford Escape in bad weather, you can turn it off and on the the 2004 escape and its and over safety thing that makes people feel for comfortable. The biggest con for having 4x4 is that it uses up more gas than when you just have front wheel drive but that is also resolved by being able to turn off the 4X4. My Escape has a 3.0L V6 with an Automatic Transmission, with 137,000 miles. You can average between 17-21 miles per gallon depending if you are driving on a highway or expressway with power steering, windows and mirrors. My Ford Escape XLT also had all leather seats, a sunroof, steal rims that only XLT’s have. A few benefits of driving this car that I like is you dont feel like your sitting on the ground when you get into the car, there is several different compartments to hold things and its a very affordable car. I bought this car when I was sixteen years old and I paid $3,200 for it. To me I believe I got a very good deal and it was very affordable. All of the different types and years of escapes there are all seat five people with a decent size trunk. With maintaining such an old car you do need to put some work into it sometimes. Luckily for me I havent had many problem but one major problem I had was that my radio broke and they are known for electrical problem but it was fix by just getting a new one that my dad put in. The Ford escape over the years has been able to grow and develop tremendously on several different qualities on of which being its The 2004 escape can handle the different types of whether because of the 4X4 and because of that it can handle other types of roads than the ones we drive on everyday. With my Ford Escape driving on the expressway is very good. I am able to have complete control of my car and not swerve from the wind because it is heavy enough to withhold the pressure of going fast. I would recommend this car to anyone because it is a great car to drag around a family in and its very affordable. You can get a Used Ford Escape that is in good condition for as cheap as 6,000 or you can get a brand new 2017 Ford Escape Titanium 4WD 2.0 Ecoboost Navigation for 35,000. You should never go to a car dealership without looking into some of the possible car you might want and I work at A car dealership myself and you can always work down the price you pay. Being able to put yourself and you family into a car that you think will be safe for them is better than the Name or the model of the car but whats important is the quality of the car. My Escape is made with basic controls with nothing flashing in the inside but that is for the better because cars are being made to where you are more interested on playing with the the flashy touch screen controls than the road. You can get this escape in several different colors for the interior and the exterior. You are also able to determine if you want leather or cloth seats for your car and that can also alter the price you pay for your Escape. You can get the Escape in several different styles such as the regular one, XLT, Limited and Ecoboost. Several different combinations you can make to get the perfect Escape that fits you. I myself have been driving a 2004 Ford Escape for the past two years now and I love it and am able to get into my car feeling see. One year after I got my license I got into a car accident because a lady ran a red light because she had just gotten out of work and was rushing home. I was turning left when I got my green arrow when she hit me on the passenger driver side also know as being T-boned. Everything happened so fast and when it did happen my car lifted up off the ground and I looked to the left and saw my car tipping over when it suddenly slammed back onto the ground because of its weight distribution. My car door was dented in but as for the small car the other last was drive it was totally done but thankfully we were both okay. But my story goes to show that having a SUV such as a Ford Escape is a safe car to get around in. I hope that My review can help you consider spending your money on a glamorous car compared to a well equipped SUV that can be for you!

  • Good car, Good Price - 2004 Ford Escape

I bought my car because I wanted something with a little more space when I had my child. Its perfect with kids and car seats, enough space for everyone to be comfortable. Ive always trusted Ford because with the exception of the older "Exploders" theyve made great cars. My car isnt an exception. It has 165,000 miles and it still runs pretty good. Only complaint is leaking oil, but aside from that, its been pretty reliable. Alternator went out recently, but thats to be expected. One Ford trait, is blowing coils. Two days after I bought it, at 140,000 the coils around the spark plugs blew, which caused a misfire. Could have been a pricey fix other than being married to a mechanic.

Bought this vehicle new in Oct. 2003. No trade in got a good deal from the dealership. Car has been one of the best we ever had for the money. 202,000 miles and still running strong. I change my own oil, every 5,000 miles w/Motorcraft oil and filter and the 3.0 V-6 never uses any oil, average 1/2 qt. in 5,000 miles. Very happy with the car. Went out and bought another new one hope it is as good as the 2004 has been. Got 26MPG highway with Continental tires, went on the cheap with Cooper tires last set never again. Tires are loud, ride rough had them balanced twice, plus MPG DROPPED 2 MPG stay away from Cooper tires.

My mom bought this SUV in October 2012 (Ive daily driven it since September 2014) with 113,000 miles, with almost all the maintenence reports, and the vehicle was very well maintained. First year of ownership was great. It Handled very well, rode very nicely, had a lot of power, and got good gas mileage (25 MPG combined). About 13 months later it started having normal issues, like needing tie rods and tires and spark plugs. Then the vacuum leaks popped up. Then the exhaust falling off the car. Then needing a seal on the transfer case replaced. My car died in September 2014, and Ive been driving the Escape almost daily since. In that time, its needed struts as well as two new tires, which are normal things to wear on a car. The not so normal? Power steering pump failed twice, needed new brake lines, new front calipers, as well as a new master cylinder, more vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, ball joints, and a wheel bearing. Fast forward to now, the car sits at 153,954 miles, and the car has an extremely rough idle, a plastic melting smell that will literally burn your eyes, and stalling. Im pretty sure its a vacuum link, my mom thinks the engine is blown. Either were not sinking any more money into it, as the transmission was on its way out as well.

This is the best car I have owned to date- I loved it.

  • Good to go - 2004 Ford Escape

Bought this sweet heart with 120k and have put another 50K on in the last 18 months. 4x4 easy to handle and shift. We live in Alaska and have some pretty icy roads and rough weather. I can leave town and trust my bride will be safe in our trusted little rig. Tracks and climbs like one of the big boys but just sips the fuel. Plenty of power and a delight to drive. No problems thus far, but keep those fluids changed ! Very strange way to change the front turn signals.

  • Not bad but not great - 2004 Ford Escape

Only have about 98K, but the body is starting to rust out. Ive seen Escapes much newer than mine with similar corrosion problems. Engine has been reliable (aside from several coil packs requiring replacement), but it gulps fuel. Transmission has been reliable and shifts well. If we drove longer distances, we would add a separate transmission cooler due to problems others have reported. Car is peppy and feels sporty. Well weighted steering. Upholstery shows stains like theres no tomorrow. The 4 wheel drive is not the best, even when the part time 4x4 mode is selected.

  • Repaced a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Cherokee - 2004 Ford Escape

Had the 2001 Jeep since 2003 and I really liked it ! Drove that Jeep for 10 years... Found the 2004 Escape a great replacement. New jeeps are now junk and are over priced. The 2004 Escape looks a tad smaller and has a few features the Jeep should have had. The 2004 Escape I found was solid and very quiet and had only 52,000 miles and was garage kept. New 16" tires, new battery, very well maintained. it was better than new! He got the new car bugs out of it for me and I paid $15,000 less than his retail price.

  • Catalytic Converter Fail - 2004 Ford Escape
    By -

At 90,000 miles, all THREE catalytic converters failed. Happened to be when the auto companies were having probs so parts makers were scaling down causing us to have to wait 3 months for one of the parts. Three months in the shop and $3,600 to get it fixed. During this, our parts guy was told by Ford that its normal for the CCs to fail at about 90K miles. Of course this also happened a month before we were planning on taking a camping trip with a couple of friends. Wound up using our Ranger w/trailer and friends bringing their car instead of all of us fitting in the Escape plus trailer.

  • Good value for the money - 2004 Ford Escape
    By -

I have a 2004 Escape with about 87,000 miles on it. It has always been a good car for me and its going on 9 years. I had to replace the front axil due to the gear that drives the anti lock brakes cracking. This repair was $350 which was not bad in my eyes. I do routine oil changes and have had all the other fluids changed once, including the brake fluid. I am a firm believer that if you want a car to last you need to put some money into them. I expect I will need to replace the spark plugs and serpentine belts in about a year. I drain the transimission fluid from the drian plag every couple of years and so far so good with the tranny.
