Overview & Reviews
For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
- Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Eddie - November 8 - 11:36 amLove the truck. Traded in my 04 EXT for the 4 door. I am a plain guy that doesnt need a fancy interior. It is a truck to a fashion statement. I get good fuel economy and it runs great. Comfortable ride. Buy American.

Improved - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By kurb - September 4 - 11:46 pmI am very pleased with the smooth ride in the 06 crew cab. I had a 2000 Silverado and it wasnt nearly as smooth of a ride. Very strong engine. Sound system is great. Very comfortable seating.

Im happy with the overall performance - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By hockytwn02 - August 18 - 9:20 amThis truck rides so darn smooth, and has power. I am unhappy with the gas mileage, craftmanship, and engineering. However I do understand w/ the 5.3 it will consume more fuel, but at 13.8 mpg I am forced to buy aftermarket products for the truck. Not everyone can keep a tonneu cover on constantly. The tailights got broken when pulling out plywood, the carpet was not tucked in around the doors, the seatbelt cover was not screwed down, and biggest one of all is The box was very off centered. Had to take back to dealer and get a loner for 2 days. No handle for passengers to hold on to, only the bar for the front passenger.

Should have got the V8 - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Craig Biggio - August 4 - 9:53 amNew Silverado LT1 ext. cab with 4.3 V6. Great upgrade on the grille from the older models, interior very sleek, not too fancy, just "domestic". Overall satisfied with the truck except for the fact that there is a vibration in my exhaust. Feels like a strain on the motor, happens at low speeds and accelerations. Dealer mechanic said its not a problem, and common on all 4.3 v6s. But its annoying as heck. Especially annoying that he mentioned the V8 never has this problem. Nothing he can do about it. So its something I have to live with. Great truck, would be perfect with a nice "quiet" v6. Want to save on the gas? My advice would be to try the hybrid, just dont get the V6.

VortecMax pkg Rocks!! - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Happy in MI - July 17 - 12:46 amI have the LT3 Crew Cab with the 6.0L V8. 345 hp and still get 15 mpg with everyday driving. This is my second Silverado. I had a 2001 LS Ext Cab short box w/5.3L V8 and had 0 problems in the 62,000 miles/3 yrs I had it. This one I have only had a month but I am very pleased with my purchase.

Chevy 4WD work truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Wolfgang - May 15 - 4:36 pmGood truck for little money. Problems: Way way too squishy shocks. Also, way noisy manual transmission...almost cannot hear myself think. Had 1990 with same engine that used about 25% less gas.

SS owner - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By McDonald - April 11 - 1:06 amLooks good and rides excellent! The fuel economy is not great, but you have to give up something for style...and style, it has! Everyone stops and looks at this CHEVY.

"Heartbeat of America" - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Dusty - February 12 - 3:43 pmThis Chevy truck has the 5.3 liter V8- more fun than I could have imagined- and is the replacement for a 2005 Chevy Silverado that I totalled on my way to work when a 2500# cow decided to cross the road in front of me. It was all about 2 seconds of ABS; 1 second of airbag and I walked away with minor bruises. You bet I got another Chevy truck ( more bells and whistles this time) and I can pound up any of the mountain roads around here without breaking a sweat. Quiet, comfortable for long drives; avg. mpg 20 - sweet truck and a definite "keeper".

2006 Silverado Like a Rock - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Nolan - June 9 - 11:30 pmMy pickup has 55k miles now and its great. Great gas mileage in town about 15-16 mpg with the 4.8 L V8. 18 mpg highway-interstate. Good power and get up and go. Good room for an ext cab and the fold up seat is nice. No problems towing anything or getting around off-road, this baby never gets stuck. Very smooth and quiet on the highway for a truck.
