Overview & Reviews
Quadrasteer is no longer available on 2WD models, standard wheel sizes have been bumped up to 17 inches, and on extended and crew cab models; a power sunroof that includes HomeLink and a deluxe overhead console are new options. Chevy takes a step backward this year with the return of rear drum brakes, as opposed to last year's four-wheel disc setup. A gasoline/electric hybrid model is also introduced in limited quantities this year. Basically a "mild" hybrid, the system provides no power boost, but does allow for automatic engine startup and shutdown at stops. This truck also comes with four 120-volt AC power outlets and is the only Silverado with rear disc brakes this year. The hybrid truck is only available in Western states and Florida.
- Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid electric option.
- Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

Excellent Value - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jim - December 23 - 8:00 pmBest value in the industry. I looked at all the full size extended cab models out there, and the Chevrolet Silverado was the best buy for the price. I have owned several GM products and all of them were extremely reliable over the long haul. By that I mean they were still reliable with over 100,000 miles. The imports I have had were not.

2005 Chevy Work Truck 5 speed Manual - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jim - December 14 - 1:06 amA review 3 years down the road for my 2005 Silverado. The old warrior has done great 24-25 MPG highway. Dependable. Comfortable. I drove this truck on 2 500 mile trips non stop with no driver fatigue. This truck was the bottom end 13206 price leader back in 05 when they couldnt give them away (like now) It had 3 issues- the steering shaft- finally got fixed free at 60000 miles/ the heater control assembly, at 36000 miles, and the recirc emissions valve on top of the gas tank at 36000 miles. The truck still has its original tires , brakes and shocks, all in good working order. Clutch works fine. Now its trade in time. Again, Silverado

chevy silerado 1500 5.3 LT - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Thom - November 28 - 9:23 ama tough truck - 16-17 mpg ongoing, problems : brakes abs system repeatedly , Poor design causes the abs to light up on the dash which so far has always beed associated with the wheel hubs area. Many owners Ive talked with have had same problem. these brakes will fail. brake pads have to be modified when installed new - if not - theyll wear unevenly . design problem again . brake shops aware of this . other wise a great truck

Awful! - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By jessicaw1 - November 27 - 10:29 amOurs has been nothing but a problem! They dent VERY easily. The engine light comes on for no reason that the dealer can find. The cd player broke at about 30,000 miles. The console broke at 40,000. All the gauges stopped working at 45,000. When we are in neutral, it read 50 mph, when driving at normal speeds it maxes out. The glove box fell out. The 4 wheel drive got stuck on. It was stuck on for 3 days and was making an awful noise. We finally got it back in 2 wheel drive and the noise is still there. For its age, it has low miles and is not used for anything out of the ordinary. Not even driven everyday. Horrible truck, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

05 Silverado W/T L.B. - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Gabe - September 24 - 2:13 amAfter owning two other new Chevrolet Trucks, this one seems to be the best of the three. Its power (4.8 Liter) rivals that of my previous 97 5.7 Liter. Although the Cab is stripped down, it still has plenty of room and the seats are very comfortable. All control are laid out in easy reach. Plenty of head and hip room (Im 6,2"). The long bed has plenty of room for plywood and longer items. I would deffinitely reccommend this truck to anyone needing a simple work truck.

Total Quality Best All Around Silverado - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jason - August 31 - 12:26 amFor the money, the ride, the quality, and joy of driving it the Chevrolet Silverado is at the top. The crew cab 1500 covers all my needs. I love the alloy 17" wheels, and the auto locking differential is a plus. I have driven every full size on the market. For overall price and quality I had to go with the Chevy and I made the right decision

Poor Build Quality - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Mike - August 30 - 10:10 amNot very satisfied. It was a nice ride at first, but after it gets broken in it becomes like a tank and things start falling apart. The "like a rock" statement is long gone and I will never own another Chevy truck again if this is their new standard. My 86 pickup lasted well over 200,000 miles with no major problems but apparently you cant expect the same quality anymore.

BLAK BEAUTY - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By ROB RICHARDSON - July 25 - 8:53 amTHE NEW SILVERADO IS A GREAT TRUCK! IT RIDES LIKE A FINE AUTOMOBILE. THE POWER IS EXCELENT. IN CITY TRAFIC OR HIGHWAY PASSING IS NO PROBLEM. TOWING IS DONE EASILY ALSO. WHEN PULLING A THREE THOUSAND POUND TRAILER ON MILD GRADES IT DOESNT DOWN SHIFT EVEN WILE USING THE CRUISE. THREE HUNDRED MILE CRUISES ARE COMFORTABLE. THE WIND NOISE IS MINIMAL. ON THE HIGHWAY I GET 17.5 MPG AND 15 IN THE CITY.

For me - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By William Stewart - July 24 - 2:33 pmThe power & driveabity are exellent but there are some problems with the transmission & differential I need to take up with my dealership soon. The transmission will slip & catch somtimes. The differential will make a clunking noise when traction is bad on an upgrade.
