This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the S60 2.4T AWD and its slick electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Additionally, all S60 models get Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), enhanced traction control performance and improved throttle management, resulting in quicker response in everyday driving situations. Volvo's Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) system is now standard in T5 models and optional for the 2.4T AWD (starting in December 2001). Other model-specific changes include satellite controls on the steering wheel and rear cupholders for the base 2.4 model and a memory function for the power seats and mirrors in 2.4T and T5 models. The entire lineup gets revised rear headrests, ISO-FIX child restraint attachment points and an emergency trunk release handle.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T powerplant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

  • Volvo Most Underrated........... - 2002 Volvo S60

A very good to excellent car with outstanding seating comfort. Has everything the luxury cars have except the high price. Above average gas mileage with satisfactory power. The best thing the S60 has going for it is its styling. You can alway find it in a parking lot as it doesnt resemble most of the other makes copycat cookie- cutter styling. Plan to keep it for at least 10 years as it will still look up-to-date............

This is a great freeway car with great looks and the smoothness that seems like you are riding on glass, with power to spare!

Car has constant clanking. Vision is impaired when turning or driving a curve. whiplash protection seats move back of their own accord during normal driving. Car takes even small bumps really hard. Seat bottoms tend to force legs together (uncomfortable for female drivers). Hand brake makes it hard to get to anything (like a purse) on floor of passenger seat. Trunk almost impossible to open with the remote and once open is so stiff its hard to close. Gas mileage indicator nice idea, but not at all accurate.

  • Great for all - 2002 Volvo S60

I bought an s60 in November of 2010. Its the t5, 5 speed automatic. I am absolutely in love with this vehicle. I bought it with 127k miles on it in Arizona, its been driven around there and then across the country to Arizona. Most people would be hesitant to drive a car with 140k miles on it another 2000 miles, across unfamiliar ground, but the car did great. Great range, averaged around 29 mpg on the trip. Great sound system, comfortable, handy on board computer system to check information. I did put W rated tires on it about a year ago (speed tires), and I noticed that the cornering and stability increased ten fold. A bit expensive for parts, but you pay for quality. Great for all

  • Great on the Autobahn - 2002 Volvo S60

The car is great on the Autobahn, it is capable of diving 230kmph or approximately 130 mph all day long. When you do so forget about good MPG, however up to 100mph you can still get 20MPG. I have driven this car all around europe and bought it over the 3 and 5 series BMW, which says alot since my wife is German. I did drive the T5, which was nice but decided the 2.4T was a good compromise and could drive as fast and handled as wel as the T5. Note it drove as fast based on the goverened top speed, the T5 will get you to 230kmph faster.

This car is exceptional on every level. The fuel economy is great, the ride and feel is super, the seats are very comfortable, and the price is excellent in comparison to the other"high line vehicles" in the market.

  • IS IT WORTH IT - 2002 Volvo S60

I do have to say this car is very stylish and fun to drive. But, I have had many things go wrong with this car at only 55000 miles. The front wheel bearing needs replaced at a wopping $1200 and both rear and left front Link Rods need replaced at $400. As you can imagine I am not to happy with this as it is no longer under warrenty. According to Volvo Service, this does not happen often. When you spend this kind of money for a car this is one thing you do not expect. Therefore I do not give this car a thumbs up. I am just afraid this is a sign of what is to come as the miles continue to grow.

  • so NOT for life! - 2002 Volvo S60

I will never set foot in a Volvo dealership again. First, an acorn cracked the windshield. My husband would NEVER have believed me if he had not been driving the car when it happened. Light bulbs have failed the entire 81,000 miles (I have lost count), gas door fell off, starter replaced TWICE (service says it may have more to do with the solenoid valve), oil pan is shot, car leaks oil. It is currently sitting in my driveway because it will not start for me to unload it on a trade.
