This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the S60 2.4T AWD and its slick electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Additionally, all S60 models get Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), enhanced traction control performance and improved throttle management, resulting in quicker response in everyday driving situations. Volvo's Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) system is now standard in T5 models and optional for the 2.4T AWD (starting in December 2001). Other model-specific changes include satellite controls on the steering wheel and rear cupholders for the base 2.4 model and a memory function for the power seats and mirrors in 2.4T and T5 models. The entire lineup gets revised rear headrests, ISO-FIX child restraint attachment points and an emergency trunk release handle.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T powerplant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

  • Pretty Good - 2002 Volvo S60

Bought it from my brother with 31,000 miles on it to commute to college. Coming from driving a Mercedes C- class, the S60 feels solid and is very comfortable to drive. Very driver oriented console and its quite roomy for its class. Little annoyances such as transmission slips and rough idling, but both were fixed under warranty with no problem since. Run it on premium and added K&N filter, and it gives decent performance with good fuel economy. Suggest that you stay on top of the maintenance, or youre going to pay a lot down the road.

  • Great Car - 2002 Volvo S60

This car has been reliable and trouble-free for the first 8000 miles. The base with the 5-spd has plenty of get up and go for most driving situations. Car handles great in the snow and rain, especially with Stability Traction Control. A great car for the money if you take it easy on options. Highly recommend the Volvo Overseas Delivery program unless you can get a great deal off the lot.

  • A great Sports Sedan - 2002 Volvo S60

Outstanding Sports Sedan. Fun to drive, great performance, outstanding stereo. Wonderful 5 Speed manual transmission. We have less than 1000 miles so far, but absolutely no problems or regrets.

  • A Good Nice looking car - 2002 Volvo S60

I really enjoy my Volvo S60. The service from my local dealer is great! I have had some scheduled service done and they will take care of anything. Everything is covered by the Volvo warranty! My car was a certified used car so I can look forward to several more years of unparalled service. If you want a nice car with nice interior styling and a great safety record, this is the one.

  • 2002 S60 T5 - 2002 Volvo S60

Great all-round performer. Have owned since new. Only to shop for basic maintenance except for recent A/C issue. Have owned Mercedes E Class and 5 series BMW that spent much more time for repairs. Go for the T5 or R model, just watch the torque steer. I never thought a Volvo could perform this well. At nearly 60000 miles it still runs strong as new.

  • Volvo S60 Deserves Consideration - 2002 Volvo S60

This car does not have the hard edge performance of its European competitors but if you want a balanced performance and excellent safety features this car deserves a test drive.

Good on open highways, terrible ride on rougher roads. Great engine, but terrible car quality overall. Purchased new with 8K on odometer: * Before 30K miles: - Engine mounts broke - Black smoke from air.cond vents (on inspection Calabasas Volvo reported nothing found.. yeah right) - some air.cond fans no longer work - Radio sporadically changes station - Suspension bushings broke - Defrost broke - only does 1/2 window * Before 60K: - Transmission problems - takes 5+ secs to get in gear - Roof gutter-tracks paint is pealing - Plastic ext. trim is popping off - Plastic ext. trim quickly faded to light gray - Eng. mnts broke a 2nd time * much much more..

  • Excellent Car, Excellent Value - 2002 Volvo S60

I am leasing a Volvo S60 and absolutely love it! The car is sturdy, gets great gas mileage, is extremely comfortable especially for long trips, has a great stereo, and has so many great standard features. When I was researching cars this summer, I compared the Volvo S60 to many other vehicles in its class. Volvo gives you more for your money - you can get a fully loaded vehicle for a few thousand less than its competitors. Also, its nice that the new Volvos are "rounded out" -older models were so square. The main reason I have a Volvo is because of the standard safety features. The car is built nicely and handles really well.

  • Not worth it - 2002 Volvo S60

Volvo has a complete lack of customer care concepts. Weve had several mechanical problems and fear the day the warranty runs out. Very difficult to see in order to change lanes. Back seat has NO leg room.
