This Year's Model Updates:

The S60 is Volvo's new sedan that takes the place of the discontinued S70 Sedan. Smaller than the S80 but bigger than the S40, Volvo has designed the S60 to be sporty as well as safe.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, comfortable interior, powerful turbocharged engine in the T5 model.
Cons:
  • Steering and handling lack the precision needed for a true sport sedan, expensive optional equipment.

This is the first Volvo Ive ever purchased. It sure has a sleek and eye-catchy exterior design which takes peoples breathe away. Compare to other non-turboed European cars, its turbo lag really affected its performance - acceleration. But overall, its a excellent driving machine.

We purchased the Volvo S60 based on reputation. We were very disappointed. The car was always in the shop for one thing or another. Also frustrating, was having the car fixed and maintained. Finally, after less than 2 years of having the car, the sway bar broke. We turned it in, purchased a Maxima and have been happy since. Additional note - the only seat comfortable to ride in was the drivers seat. The back was very uncomfortable.

Ive been really pleased with my commute since getting my S60. Its quiet, has good highway passing power (better than it is off the line) and is both fun and comfortable. The mileage has been much better than expected. All in all, its a great buy. The A4 is much more cramped in back and the BMW 3 is muc more narrow in front. Its the roomiest ride in its class.

  • S60 2.4T I love it!! - 2001 Volvo S60

I bought the car 2 months ago with 27K miles....absolutely love it...most comfortable seats of any car Ive driven. My only complaints are with some of the plastic dash material, radio control functions, and at times rough suspension over city streets. Still, I absolutely enjoy driving the car which is a huge step up from my 15 yr history of driving Hondas. Finally, the 2.4T provides plenty of power with minimal turbo lag....glad I didnt spend xtra for the T5.

  • Overall, best luxury and perf for the $ - 2001 Volvo S60

I am a car guy, and I tested a lot of cars. Narrowed down to Lexus 300 (balnd suspension) Infinity I35 (tons of power, boring looks) Mercedes C320 (inferior car) and The BMW 330i (road manners are excellent, but lots of $ with similar options). I chose the S60 2.4T because the 2.4 is a slug and I did not notice the extra horses or torque in the T5. Lag is about what it should be, and torque curve is good. I bought every option imaginable except for the navi system, because its just not worth the $$$. Outside looks are awesome, much better than the others I considered. Definitely recommend 17 inch wheels. Enhances ride and looks nice.

I became interested in the Volvo S-60 because of the way it looked. I cross- shopped the BMW 330I, Infinity G35 and Mercedes C320. It became apparant after test drives that the Volvo T5 had the best combination of looks, performance and price. The G35 was faster, BMW handled better, Mercedes did not stand out in any way. But, the comfortable interior and full array of premium options kept me coming back to the T5. I still love the way this car looks and drives. Friends continue to complement. Ive owned 3 Mustang GTs and two Camaro Z28s and this car gives me most of the thrill of those. Plus, it actually drives well in the snow.

  • Perfect Car - 2001 Volvo S60

I drive high mileage and just love my S60. Power is fine in the base model for my driving. Reliablility is the best. Despite what other reviews have said, I do not believe the maintenance charges are out of line. About the same cost for my Honda Accord when all is said and done. Dealership personnel is excellent. I will never buy anything but a Volvo from now on.

NO WONDER MOST PEOPLE WHO BUY A VOLVO END UP BUYING A FEW MORE IN THEIR LIFETIME. MY S60 HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO DRIVE OVERALL. IVE GONE THROUGH TWO WINTERS AND SEVERAL LONG TRIPS AND THE S60 IS AN ETREMELY NICE PLACE TO BE IN ON A LONG DRIVE...BEST SEATS IN THE WORLD!

I was impressed with the new styling of the 2001 Volvo. With our first baby on the way, I purchased the 2001 S-60 2.4T because of the safety record of the Volvo. 3 months later we were involved in an accident which literally took the front off of the car. Our 3 month old was asleep in the back seat, and she never even woke up!! Since then, we purchased another Volvo, the 2002 S-60, 2.4T. I cant say enough about this car. If you are looking for a safe, well performing mid-priced car, this is it!! I suggest the Turbo over the standard car.
