This Year's Model Updates:

The big news is the arrival of the S60 2.4T AWD and its slick electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Additionally, all S60 models get Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), enhanced traction control performance and improved throttle management, resulting in quicker response in everyday driving situations. Volvo's Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC) system is now standard in T5 models and optional for the 2.4T AWD (starting in December 2001). Other model-specific changes include satellite controls on the steering wheel and rear cupholders for the base 2.4 model and a memory function for the power seats and mirrors in 2.4T and T5 models. The entire lineup gets revised rear headrests, ISO-FIX child restraint attachment points and an emergency trunk release handle.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T powerplant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

  • Volvo S60 Surprising Value - 2002 Volvo S60
    By -

Ive owned Volvos exclusively for the last 11 years. Each one has impressed me in terms of safety, reliability, and a generally "solid" feel that never seemed to wear off. When looking for a new car, I ended up test driving other cars in the "luxury sedan" segment, only to discover that they didnt seem as well built (ex. Lincoln LS) or were much more expensive (BMW 3 series) when comparably equipped. This new Volvo is the first one Ive owned that really feels like a sports sedan. The 850 was close, but this sedan handles, accelerates, brakes, and looks sportier. For the money, its a great value.

  • Great car, but.... - 2002 Volvo S60

I looked at a few different cars and finally settled on deciding between the BMW 325 and Volvo S60 2.4T. I really think you get more for your money with the Volvo. Its a great car. Ive had mine for 2 months and have been very happy with it - except for one problem. Ill be selling the car soon because of this - but I was just unlucky with the dealer and Volvo Customer Service. My bad experience is probably a fluke, so Id recommend the car. Id just take the "We Care" slogan as advertising and not something to be relied upon.

  • S60 T5 - 2002 Volvo S60

The S60 T5 is an extremely fast, comfortable, and "Safe" vehicle. The car feels a though it has an after burner because of the turbo engine. The seats in this car are the most comfortable I have ever ridden in. On long trips, you dont even realize you are sitting in a car. The car has more features than many others in the same category but, at a greater value. Overall, this is a great car which is safe, reliable, and value packed.

  • Volvo s60 more bang for the bucks than B - 2002 Volvo S60

My wife and I tested a long list of cars before we came to the Volvo s60 2.4t. I wish we had gone to Volvo first. The ride is fantastic and the fit, finish and features are head and shoulders above the compitetion. We drove the BMW 325i, Acua TL, Mercedes C240, and Infinity I35. The BMW and Mercedes have 168hp the Tl 225 and the I35 255. Not one of these cars has the excelleration of the 197hp s60 turbo I5 motor. Both of the Japanese cars drive like american cars, soft ride, weak handling. The Volvo hangs in with both the mercedes and the BMW in terms of confidence and response.

  • S-60 2.4 - 2002 Volvo S60

this is my first European Sedan. (Finally made the break from Camry). MSRP on my Volvo is about the same as a loaded Camry XLE,but this S-60 offers so much more for the money. The seats are outrageous! I drove it 2000 miles this summer and was able to walk upon exiting the car. (cant do that in a Toyota). Great handling overall.

  • Solid Car and Fun to Drive - 2002 Volvo S60

Steering and braking are excellent and have spared me from at least two accidents. Love the acceleration and handling at highway speeds. Leather interior is comfortable and has stood up exceptionally well to the wear and tear of two young boys. Will definitely buy another Volvo but only after this one wears out.

  • More than meets the eye - 2002 Volvo S60
    By -

This is my first Volvo. I wanted a safe vehicle for my family as well as one that stands out from the rest of the bunch. We have loged over 4500 trouble free miles averaging 29 plus mpg on the freeway at 75 mph. The paint quality is near perfect as well as fit and finish. I wish I had seats in my home as comfortable as the ones in the front of this car. Our 2 and 4 year old kids fit comfortably in their car seats in the rear with enough leg room so their feet are not in our backs. The 2.4 T has plenty of power through most of the power band. The front of the car feels a little heavy when pushed hard into a corner but otherwise handles well.

  • Great car - 2002 Volvo S60

I had been looking at cars for about 6 months. I really liked the new body style of the Volvos. I owned an Audi A- 4 and I was waiting for the lease to expire. Well, I finally bought a car (a new Infiniti I-30). After owning the car for a few months, I felt like it was too big/touring sedan for me. So, I looked at the BMW 325 and MB C240 and decided upon the Volvo S-60. It was the right size and equally priced to the BMW and MB (was a little higher).

  • EXCELLENT CHOICE!!! - 2002 Volvo S60
    By -

THIS IS THE FIRST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE DESCISION. I DROVE THE JAG, BMW, AUDI, AND ACURA AND WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE RESPONSIVENESS OF THE 2.4T. THE CAR IS NIMBLE AND THE RIDE QUALITY IS UNSURPASSED. THE HUGE LIST OF STANDARD FETURES ARE A GREAT BONUS AS WELL.
