This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • First VW Passat, Loving it - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This is my first VW Passat and I couldnt be any happy with it. I have owned lots of cars, mainly Mazdas and Nissans. My good friend purchased the same car two months before I did. I got to test drive his and fell in love with it. It is a solid car, it has all the bells and whistles, and it has plenty of speed. This vehicle gets a lot of attention as well, people look twice to see what it is. For anybody in sales or on the road a lot, get the navagation package. Youll find reasons to take the car for a spin even if you have nowhere to go.

  • Outstanding Car - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I traded in my 2003 Passat which was great for a 2006 model. It is hard to believe they could improve a great car this much but they did. The new Passat is faster, gets better milage and has more space. The 2006 model has the luxury feel that was missing in the previous generation. It feels like Im driving an Audi A6 for $25,000 less.

  • Awesome Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

The interior styling is awesome. The red spot lights over the center console is a feature that I have not seen in any other car. The electronic parking brake is cool (sounds like a space ship landing when you activate it). The handling is not as good as the previous models. The seats dont wrap around you as well either.

  • V6 AWD Passat - a Mini Phaeton - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

The V6 AWD Passat with Sport suspension is really an 8/10ths Phaeton. I have made several cross-country trips in this car and have been extremely impressed with its comfort and ability to make long driving days go by in a blur. unfortunately, my car had several minor electronic glitches, but they were all dealt with by VW. This car is still worth it. It looks and feels like a $50,000 $60,000 vehicle.

  • New VW Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This is a great car. I test drove the Passat a few months before buying and knew right then that I had to get one. I am very impressed with the performance of the 2.0T engine. I couldnt be happier with my decision to get the Passat.

  • I Still Love It - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

The only other vehicles I considered were the BMW 325i and Audi A4 2.0T (the 330 and A4 3.2 were slightly out of my range). Even after driving the 325, the Passat remained the clear winner for me. I purchased my new Passat 3.6 with Sport Package #1 (I feel this is the best deal in the 3.6 range) in order to provide a stable mate for my 1999 Passat 1.8T (which I will keep until it dies). As far as driving enjoyment goes, the car is great. The cars power, build quality, and Teutonic feel are amazing for a car in this price range. I have had a couple of electrical problems involving the fuel gauge and fuel pump, but both were quickly fixed under warranty. Despite these problems, I still love it.

  • 06 Passat Appraisal - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

With only 3,000 miles to date. I am averaging 26.5 pg, and 31.8 on highway during two long trips at higher speed. Wind seems to affect the Passat somewhat, steering in the wind seems affected but otherwise this car has excellent center weighting and response. Its acceleration is outstanding and its seat comfort once adjusted is excellent during long trip. This car is fun to drive, has smooth acceleration and good brakes. Mine has a few nagging issues, but nothing significant. The cup holders are not sized for to American cups or bottles. Its storage is quite good with several small storage areas or drawers.

  • Squeaky & Chipped, But Fun To Drive - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I have had the Passat for almost 6 months and have about 10K miles on the car. The interior squeaks until it gets warmed up and the hood chips very easily. However, I bought the car for comfort and acceleration. So far I have not been disappointed. If you want something peppy to jump in and out of high traffic areas or fly down the backroads, this is the car for you. Im getting between 26 and 29 mpg. If you get a black Passat get a detail shop to put on a 3M clear protectant. It will save you from repainting the hood.

  • Best Highway Driving Car Ever - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This is my first VW and at the end of 4 years still love the vehicle. Its the most comfortable and fun car I have ever had for highway driving. Seats are very comfortable! Long trips are a breeze. Negatives are the parking sensors in cold or wet weather give you false beeps frequently. Navigation is terrible if you want to find something on a common street like Elm or Main. System lists every Elm St. in all cities within a state and you end up guessing which of the multiple Elms listed is the right one. No way to enter city name to narrow the list. Just hope for a unique street name.

  • Passat Issues Since Purchase - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

After 16,500 miles, I sold my Passat due to the on-going quality and reliability since buying the car 22 months ago. The car has spent overt six weeks in the dealership primarily for a new transmission, new exhaust system and new fuel system. I reached a point with the car that I was afraid to go over normal road bumps. VW did supply me with rental cars. Overall, I would not recommend buying VW. Just too many issues with the quality and reliability. Please do additional research if you are going to buy a VW. Ask mechanics and rental car agencies about their experience with VWs. If you buy one, you should get to know the service manager.
