This Year's Model Updates:

The VW Passat has been redesigned inside and out for 2006. The current version is 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than its predecessor, with a more spacious cabin. Initially, VW will offer only a sedan, but the wagon rejoins the lineup later in the 2006 model year. Engine choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6; last year's diesel engine option has been dropped. Trim levels have been renamed and recast; the Passat now comes in Value Edition, 2.0T, 3.6 and 3.6 4Motion trims.

Pros:
  • Powerful engines, excellent ride and handling dynamics, roomy and upscale interior, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • V6 models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals.

  • My Dream Car!!! - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

This is my third Passat, and I love it! The ride and handling are just unbelievable. I thought my last Passat (2003) was really good, but the 2006 is so much better. My wife just got a new Altima. After letting her drive my new car, she said Passat the is so much better than hers. Im really happy with this car!

I just returned from a 1200 miles trip incl 568 miles in one day. I did all of the driving and the seat comfort was outstanding (dont have to see my chiropractor), the mileage was great (32.4 mpg), and the handling and performance in the mountains was first-rate.

I bought this 2.0T Passat in 2006 and have been driving it since then. Now it has about 100K miles on it. Great car. Never had any major issues with it. The handling is much better than some competitors in its class. My wife and I both like the look very much. So classic. I was surprised to see many negative reviews here, but I do understand normally only people who had trouble would spend time writing reviews. So I wanted to tell a little the other side of story.

I absolutely love this car! Currently, the car has 57,203 miles on it and I have had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with this car. It handles like a sports car. Its VERY fast and has more than enough power. The black interior looks like new. The silver exterior is still shinny (even though I dont really clean or wax it). It doesnt get stuck when those wonderful noreasters hit us here in PA. This car will cruise easily faster than any other car I have ever owned.

  • Looks are deceiving... - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Thank goodness this particular year had a 50,000 warranty or I would have been SOL with most of these repairs. A/C work, window modules, transmission, paint chipping/rusting, coolant system keeps getting "bubbles" causing the coolant to be low when it reads as normal...those are the major things. I have a year left on the lease without the warranty and I am afraid that I will have a lot of cash going out for repairs.

  • Class by itself - 2006 Volkswagen Passat

I checked out a lot of cars and in the mid $20,000 range, nothing compared to the Passat. With styling thats tasteful and timeless, thoughtful features, impeccable fit and finish and satisfying performance from the the 4-cylinder turbo engine, the Accord, Mazda 6, Camry (yes the `07), Altima and Saab 9-3 are simply outclassed by the `06 Passat. As an added bonus, Im 6-6" and am more comfortable in the Passat (even with a sunroof) than any of the cars mentioned above. Right now Im enjoying the fact that Im not seeing a lot of `06 Passats on the road. Thats going to change when the word gets out.

This is my first VW and I am totally hooked. Not only is the dealer first class but the car has been the most reliable Ive ever owned. I now have 39,000 miles on it and have not put one dime into it except for tires and oil changes. It still looks as good as the day I bought it and the body is as solid as ever. I still get huge compliments on this car. I highly recommend this car!

When I drive my Passat I always feel Im driving a sophisticated German car with price of over $35,000. First I saw it I was totally infatuated by its appearance, and now Im in deep love with the feeling it provides when Im in drivers seat.

  • I Love My Passat - 2006 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

I bought this new Passat 306 in January after selling my 1999 Passat GLX. I thought I loved my old Passat, but I really love my new one. It has sooo many great features, rides like a dream, and it will fly. I have come to the conclusion, its just a VW thing. There is just something about the engineering that sets it apart from the rest.
