- Fun-to-drive, excellent value, functional and comfortable interior.

Fun when it runs - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By VWregret - October 24 - 5:43 amI loved this car when I bought it. But, when the repairs started, they never stopped. It spends most of the time these days in the shop. The repairs over the past year include $900 turbo, $500 timing belt, $650 coolant feed line (dealer), $600 struts and many other $200+ repairs. I cant even sell it because of other repairs that need to be made to it. Its a piece of junk. I wish it wasnt because I really liked this car. I will never buy another VW. Never.

Great Car - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Larry4motion - September 29 - 10:00 amI bought the Passat almost 2 years ago and now have 33000 trouble-free miles on it. Its a great value, essentially an Audi for thousands less. My wife wont admit it, but I think she likes driving it better than her BMW 528I.

By screwedup - September 22 - 10:00 amthis is a piece of foreign junk. Just drive it for not more than 24000 miles, got quite a few problems. Bad luck? dont think so. VW should do better job on its qulity and customer services.

catalytic converter - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By lsmo - August 2 - 10:00 amBought this car new in 2000, never a problem until at 104,000 got a check engine light with emmissions workshop light, dealer said that the catalytic converter was bad to the tune of $3,300, took it elsewhere and they said the O2 sensors were also bad...another $1,200. I paid $24,600 for it 4yrs ago and now I cant even trade it in!

great passat - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By griffton - July 19 - 10:00 amI bought this car new before CU picked as their favorite. I shopped around an simply could not find a comparable car for the price. Its been love ever since. The only disappointments have been problems with the emissions warnings. Bat after 57,000 miles I still love the car and would recommend it fully. brian

Horrible Car - DO NOT BUY ONE! - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Pat - July 1 - 1:16 pmI have owned my Passat since it was new. It has always had regular service performed by the dealer. I have had a slew of problems since the car was three years old (its a 2000). First, the drivers seat heater went out. The dealer wanted $1,400 to fix it. I needed an entirely new seat - apparently they cant take element out. At 86,000 miles, the check emissions light came on. I needed two new catalytic converters. What kind of car needs two, pray tell? That set me back close to $5,000 for the way overpriced parts. Then little things happened, the Tiptronic wont upshift, for example. The Tiptronic transmission alone cost $1,400 to fix. Then most recently, the passenger window came off its track - $400. I need a tranny flush - $485. In three years, I spent over $9,000 in repairs.

2000 VW Passatt is the Worst! - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By soozzn - June 13 - 7:53 pmWhat can I say about a car that was built during the Octoberfest? This car is a MONEYPIT. I researched many hours to endup with something that I have rebuilt. It has a new water pump, three new sensors, new ball joints, and a new radiator. We also have replaced three oil pan covers due to their cheap plastic. It aloways needs new tires and alignment. Now it has a short in the ABS sensor that will cost $1,300 to replace and the clutch is slipping. Oops one of the electric mirror knobs broke off. How can you drive without adjusting the mirrors? What else can I say? Its time for another Japanese car. My patience is lost and no one gives a DARN. The dealers just take my money. I have had it! I am afraid of VWs. Does anyone have similar feelings?

The perfect car for me - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By Ogden guy - May 26 - 8:20 pmI bought this in late 1999 and it was just right. I didnt mind the 91 octane as I got 35-36 mph all the time. Did a lot of long distance interstate driving and have over 130,000 miles on it now. Have always done dealer service and only one bad experience and never went back to that dealer on Provo Utah. Had to replace a control arm and tires as a result. But other than that, it is a dream. Wish I could still buy a 1.8 5 speed turbo in the future. Somewhere out there around 225,000 miles I suspect.

EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
By mfallo - April 30 - 2:00 amI FELT IT URGENT TO DO A REVIEW ON THIS CAR. CONSUMER REPORTS RATED THIS MODEL YEAR BEST FAMILY CAR. ILL TELL YOU WHY WE WERE DISAPOINTED. CUP HOLDERS IN TERRIBLE SPOT, FUNNY SMELL FROM ENGINE THAT CANT BE EXPLAINED BY ANYONE, YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR DRAGGING ON THE GROUND, BLACK FABRIC INTERIOR A NIGHTMARE TO KEEP CLEAN, SMALL PIECES OF RUBBER AND PLASTIC LININGS FOR CONSOLE AND REAR CUPHOLDERS COMES OFF WHEN VACUUMED, CANT OPEN UP CUPHOLDER COMPARTMENT IF YOU SPILL SOMETHING. THE STEREO SYSTEM SOUND IS MUFFLED AND THE FUEL ECONOMY RATING IS NOT TRUTHFUL.
