  • Fun but not reliable - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

My car is almost fours years old and I have had many problems with it. These problems can not be classified as normal wear and tear. For anyone interested in buying the car, I would stay away from any that were built in September and October. Remember, these cars are built in Germany and Octoberfest is around that time of year. I am definitely paying the price for the car having been put together by a bunch of drunk Germans!

  • NO WAY - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Do not buy one of these cars. I have had 4 oil leaks fixed, all under warranty. 2 air sensors replaced - one under warranty the other on me ($400) and a air injection pump ($650). All of that between 37k and 61k. I wear a size 14 shoe and my foot rubs the brake pedal when it is on the accelerator. A very poorly made engine, I have heard the V6 is better. Also the transmission has slipped twice on me in the mountains. The value has fallen so fast that I am upside down in my loan 1.5 years into it. Cant imagine selling it so someone, so Im going to have to eat about 3k on a trade in.

  • Fantastic car with minor flaws - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Its a VW! Fun to drive. Many first- time passengers comment on what a nice car it is. Huge trunk (wagon) and passenger space. Love the sunroof and interior. Noisy auxiliary air pump (?) when engine is cold. Kids broke fragile rear cup holders several times. Dont try the windshield washers with the windows/sunroof open. Bought new for under invoice. Most enjoyable two hours of shopping in my life.

  • It has been a GREAT car! - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I designed my Passat online and waited for its arrival across the pond. It has been totally reliable -- never any problems...now 70,000 miles later. I own it and a MINI. Love em both.

  • Great car I would buy again - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Great handling, comfortable and firm seats: I can drive from Florida to North Caroina in one day. And I am over 50. Power is good (I chipped up the motor). Brakes very good. Visibility is super. Small on the outside but plenty of room inside. Heat is adequate. AC still works and well!

  • Love My Passat Except..... - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I love my Volkswagen Passat and it has been very reliable, except for the electrical system. The heated drivers side seat back stopped working just as the warranty expired, and I have had it in the shop at least six times for "engine light" being on. They do something pricy, then it comes back on a week later, without fail. So far, Ive spent $1,000 and the light is back on.

  • V6 Passats Eat Oil! - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

This car has consumed oil since I first bought it. VW says "its normal" to add 1 qt. every 2,000 miles. I have never owned a car that went through oil like that. It does not smoke or leak oil. What kind of engineer would design a car to use oil like that? I had a Honda Prelude with 185,000 miles on it and it never used any oil between changes. I will never own another VW.

  • New fan of Volkswagen - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

I purchased my Passat from a lady a few months ago. It is a very nice car. It looks good on the outside and has a killer sound system. All my friends love it, and I cant get enough of my heated seats and sunroof. Before I knew this car, I didnt like VWs, since the Beetle had always annoyed me. Now I am a new VW fan and love my car! The only thing I need to get used to is the low gas mileage (my old car got about 38 mpg). This car is fun to drive and the 4WD makes me feel safe. I tested it on a curve with and without it on, and boy does it make a difference! This car is pretty fast too, especially compared to the Toyota Corolla that I used to own.

  • Just Doesnt Get Any Better Than This - 2000 Volkswagen Passat

Wow...I just bought my 00 Passat GLS turbo sedan (moonroof, alloys) 2 weeks ago and I couldnt be any happier with it. The car got me 34mpg going from Ocean City, MD to central NJ! German engineering at its best!

  • should have bougth the infiniti - 2000 Volkswagen Passat
    By -

My wife really wanted this car, a luxury sports sedan. For the first 20K miles, all was well. Then it was old all of a sudden. The warranty ends @ 24K so bizzarre repairs I have never seen happen at these mileages are our responsibility. I note the other reviewers either love or hate these cars. I second what sounds like a weird theory - ours was built in October, and I think that may explain it. Another important note - the nice curvy sheet metal on these cars is paper thin, and it dents incredibly easily. A slow moving shopping cart can cause 2k worth of damage!
