This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

Pros:
  • Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Cookie-cutter Euro-copy sheet metal, bigger standard-features list means bigger base price.

  • Worst car ever... - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I own a 2001 Volkswagon Jetta GLX. WHile the car was under warranty there were no problems. Literally within 100 miles out of the warranty everything broke. The heated seats were the first to go. Then an a/c vent. The center console clip. Window clips were recalled. Once I had that fixed, my door locks went out. ($300+) The check engine light stays on in my car. Everytime I have it repaired, the very next day something else breaks. One word for anyone considering purchasing this car, RUN AWAY!!!!!!!

  • Love my Wolfsberg but ... - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

All in all I love this car. It is fun to drive, responsive, get gas mileage, but it has had its problems. drivers seat frame replaced twice, lumbar support repaired, passenger seat frame replaced once, cupholders are useless, doors squeak but wiping weather stripping with Armor-All helps. speakers rattle, coating on the inside trim is peeling, driver side window clips and rotor have been replaced, ignition coil replaced, and the a/c quit at 32,000 - dealer said it is an electrical problem and they are researching. My biggest complaint is with the dealer - they are VERY rude, do not return calls, and argue with me when I bring my car in for repair.

  • Nice Ride - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

My Jetta is great, minus a few things here and there but I love it. Its faster than I had expected, showing me that I could surpass many higher end cars, it has a nice kick to it. I havent had any engine trouble but I did by it used and havent had it for too long so we shall see. I love a lot of details in the interior like the lights in the dash, the stereo system, sunroof, and heated seats. Unfortunately, it was poorly built Im finding out. The interior rubber-like paint peels off and I have now just peeled it all off and it looks better. I learned quickly not too pull up on a curb because it basically pulls your bumper off which was surprising to me. Other than that though, I love it!

  • Best Car Ive Ever Owned! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

What can I say? I am now forever a loyal VW buyer. This car is absolutely amazing. I have the 2.0 with a 5 speed manual. Plenty of power even when fully loaded. I can set the cruise at 70 with people and gear in the car and pull the Grape Vine without losing speed. Awesome. The torque is also amazing. At 1800 rpm in top gear, it will accelerate. Not bad.

  • Best for the price - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

What other car gets you turbo power, 16 inch alloys, sport suspension, 6 airbags, 3 spoke wheel, a 5 speed, ABS, traction control, sport seats for under 20K new? Unreal!

  • Too Many Problems!!! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I dont recommend anyone to buy this car.The first week I had the car, my window fell!!! Ive been back for that same problem 4 more times since. Ive also had a brake sensor malfunction, so I couldnt get my car off of park and had to get it towed to the dealership. Ive had to replace the airconditioning module and fan and now have to replace the control module for the car. The inside is also peeling, the armrest broke and the seats collect fuzz like crazy. Its not worth it!! Save yourself the trouble. A 2001 model is still rather new to be having all these freaken problems.

  • POS Car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

500 miles clutch master replaced, 5,000 miles water pump replaced, 10,000 miles power windows replaced, 12,000 miles climate control repaired, 20,000 interior plastic trim falling off, 25,000 new rear brakes and rotors, 32,000 engine coil being replaced. Everytime I need a repair I have to call 5 or 6 vws so that I dont have to wait over a week for an appointment. This car absolutely sucks and I will be getting rid of it asap. DO NOT BUY THIS POS. You have been warned.

  • Never Again - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Fun car..but never again! Rear brakes were gone at 24K miles, but somehow the front brakes were like new. Multiple electrical problems, replaced O2 sensors twice, cup holder replaced, CD player replaced twice, ignition replaced once. Every week I wonder if the car will make it to Friday. This should be called the FIAT Jetta. Im going to sell and look for a used Honda or Toyota.
