This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Awesome Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive owned VWs over the years and this is by far my favorite. I liked it so much I bought an 09 w/auto 6sp. The 06 definitely likes a manual better to keep the power in the right band and it gets better mileage. The Trans works great and the clutch has held up well. Dont know about the 06 trans but the new 6sp auto rocks as well. As far as maintenance-just about every new car uses a belt not a chain-its quieter. It is expensive to replace most belts on any car. That is not a fair complaint on THIS car more than any other. Handling is excellent. The suspension might be stiff for some but it handles as well as my BMW. If you can find a nice low mileage used 06 with manual trans BUY I

  • Love my VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I purchased my VW used in June of 2008 and have not had any problems. I have an hour long commute to work everyday and was looking for a vehicle that was inexpensive, reliable and good on gas. This car has met all of my needs. Other than bringing the car in for regular maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, etc), I have not had to do anything else. Keep in mind that this car requires synthetic oil.

I love the six speed trans, the car has a real solid feel to it and I think it has more than ample power.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I am very happy with the car so far. It is very fast for 100 hp, has great handling, and is fun to drive with the 17" wheels upgrade. I have the manual version and love it. The engine sound and looks are sporty. The 10 speaker stereo sounds amaizing.

  • Simply Fun to Drive - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta GLI two weeks ago. From the first test drive it stole my heart. The car is very responsive and handles incredibly well for a "compact sedan." Its almost like a true sports car. The car looks great inside and out, and it trully feels like a solid fun German car. Though it may not look this way, the trunk is simply huge. Another thing is that there arent many of those on the road, so it make for a unique ride.

  • Really a great car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I love this car. Great mileage, great ride. Compared to both Prius and Civic Hybrid before buying. For the expected longevity, and amount of long distance freeway driving, the TDI (with ability to use biodiesel) was the best choice for me. Seems to be a much better ride than either other choice, and much larger. All-in-all a great car. Hope for reliability. If so, cant be beat.

  • Diesel is the best! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

In the 80s you could associate Diesel with words like smelly, smokey, slow, and loud. Not true anymore! This car doesnt smoke at all! Ceramic glow plug virtually eliminate the wait-to- \start. Unlike a gasoline engine, there are no spark plugs, plug wires, distributor, etc. Less to maintain! Diesel has more potential energy in it than gas does, so it takes significantly less diesel fuel to get the same amount of released (useable) energy. Fuel economy gets better with time, I have about 1500 miles on mine and I am getting an average in the mid 40s with about 75/25 hwy/city. This car surprisingly has plenty of pickup. You cant hear the motor that much during highway driving.

  • VW RIPOFF 2006 tdi RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought this car new all maintenance and oil and filter changes done since I bought it. I have had to replace radiator, air cond compressor, alternator, anti shudder valve, egr cooler clutch, now at 188000 miles the cam needs to be replaced plus the tappets and the vacuum pump I have spent over $7000 dollars so far on repairs not counting what this is going to cost my suggestion STAY AWAY FROM VOLKSWAGON.

  • What an awesome car! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I commute 72 miles to work each day. Its all highway and so far I have been averaging 42 miles per gallon. Its a little slow in stop and go traffic but if you get the turbo on-line its fast. It will get you a ticket in short order on the highway if you dont pay attention.

  • Hate to let it go - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Really hate to see the car go, but lease is up. With the full premium packages, gives, like other reviewers mention, it a C- class feel, much preferred to Accord for ex. Performance is more than sufficient, rarely leaves me wishing for more, and gets mpg at a solid 27 mpg, great with this hp (390 miles per tank). Handles nicely too, no need for GLI (nicer interior on 2.0T--interior with all the wood-trim options spruces things up), recommend you look for one of these with both prem packages. Love the DSG, great gearbox. Blue illumination is nice, and the trunk is very useful. Overall, never feel like there is anything in other cars that is AWOL here.
