Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Initial Impression - First 1,000 Miles - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Splashman24 - December 29 - 3:13 amI have had my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI for only 17 days, but I have been impressed every day. The car handles extremely well with a firm yet comfortable ride. I have averaged about 28 miles a gallon in combined driving. The only minor quibble I have when driving would be stability in windy driving. I have to do a little more correction than I am use to. This is nothing major, it just was noticable. I came out of a PT Crusier that seemed to ignore strong winds. There have been no initial delivery problems which bodes well for future reliabilty. I smile with anticipation every time I walk up to the car. Thats the best endorsement I can give as a driver.

Jetta TDI - the Sleeper Car of the Year - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By mike - December 22 - 9:50 amTo tell you the truth, I was apprehensive about buying a foriegn car, let alone a diesel. I believe in buying American, but after all these years of them killing me at the pump, I needed to do something about it. I found out that diesel cars got better gas mileage, but there were no American car companies that offered a diesel automobile! So I bought a VW Jetta TDI and I am so glad that I did! Although it only has 90 hp it is quick, responsive, and fun to drive plis I get very very good gas milage! The handling is superb it drives like a sports car, but the ride is is like a luxury car. I am absolutely sold on Volkswagons products and their stunning quality!

Problems with 2006 Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By MikeL - December 21 - 10:00 amBought this car brand new from the dealership and had no problems until the warranty period was expiring. Had several major parts replaced under warranty. Main seal leak in engine. Main wiring harness in drivers door caused major electrical problems. Headliner is falling down and interior buttons on radio are peeling.

Great mileage and good car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By nimble1_42 - December 14 - 11:50 amI bought this vehicle to lower my fuel cost while driving for my job. I went to Atlanta to purchase because the local dealers wanted to sell above list. In 15 minutes on the Internet I had a better deal, so shop around. The car rides and drives very well. No problems to date. I really enjoy driving it and would highly recommend it to anyone. The only negatives are local dealers service and pricing. You will need to shop around for quality scheduled maintenance which is a big cost compared to other cars. That is my only negative. The car requires special oil and ATF fluid. All the changes have to be done at the dealer. Your local quick oil change will not touch it.

Awesome Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Kaylen Reynolds - December 8 - 10:30 pmI traded in my x-cab pickup for my TDI and was not sure how I would like it. I have already put 850 miles on in the first week and have been impressed that I have only used about 1 1/4 tanks of fuel. The heated seats are very comfortable. I couldnt be happier with my new Jetta. I have had many other diesels and none come close. Volkswagen has won my heart.

Dont buy this car ! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mary - November 27 - 8:20 amI have a love hate relationship with my car. When its running, I love it the feel of the wheel and the way it handles the road. Unfortunately I didnt know of the known electrical problems until they started happening to me. From the first month of ownership this car has made repeated visits to the dealership. The electrical sleeve had to be replaced on the driver side because the wires broke, are they kidding? I had the ignition replaced, tires 2x, brakes... electrical components and more electrical components... Poor paint, it blisters in the summer and it wears off.

Mixed Emotions - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By josiekat - November 26 - 3:06 pmIve had this car in my possesion for 13 days, the dealership has had it the rest. There is a problem with one day time running light staying on after the car is turned off and the key is removed. Ive had some funky stuff happen with the dash warning lights coming on and "nothing is wrong" So far, the Jetta had been a very bad experience.

Drivers Wanted......Driver Found - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Boldenwh - November 17 - 6:30 pmVW guys did their homework with 06 Jetta GLI. I purchased the 6M w/sunroof, leather and spoiler. This car looks great inside and out. Its balance between performance and fuel economy is hard to match. It is a very safe, quick, luxurious solid car with all the right touches. I like the painted brake calibers, mirror turn signals, etc. It is a perfect balance between sport and luxury appointments. This car simply turns heads. It delivers excellent power from the turbo. Other than that, the GLI was my clear choice over the 325i, Altima SE-R, Saab 9-3 and others. Great job VW!
