This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my favorite car out of all the ones I have owned. It has a great mix of performance and economy. Where else can you get a car that handles great, is comfortable, is fun to drive slow or fast, and gets incredible gas mileage? If I take it easy, I easily get 45 mpg on the highway or around 40 mpg mixed driving. If I drive it hard (meaning quick accelerations, lots of speed up and slow downs with gunning it, and 80-90 mph on the highway) I still average in the high 30s. Incredible. I thought about a hybrid, but Im glad I went this route. The hybrid is not nearly as fun or sporty and does not really get any better gas mileage (specially if you do a log of highway or hard driving).

  • Dont Pay Sticker Price! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I just purchased (ordered) a Jetta TDI with Pkg 2. Some of the reviewers complained about paying sticker price. All I can say is shop around especially at the end of a month. When the dealer couldnt find a North Sea Green with Anthracite Grey leather interior he let me order the car. It will take 2-3 months for delivery. The good side is I paid only $150 under dealer invoice. If they want to move the car they will negotiate. I will followup with review after Ive had the car for a little while.

  • You need to drive one - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my third and favorite VW. I have previously owned a 00 Golf, 01 GTI VR6, and an Audi A6 4.2. The Audi is the standard I have come to judge all other vehicles by and the TDI stands up well. The power/economy ratio cannot be disputed. It does lack power over 80 mph but the torque from 10-60 is great. The DSG is the most amazing transmission I have ever driven. It is lightning fast and smooth shifts plus one more gear than the stick! I bought the car over the phone and did not spend enough time checking fit and finish on the lot; as a result I have found a few build quality issues. They are minor overall, but really check your car out before you drive off, Hecho in Mexico. Great Car!

  • A Bit Disappointed... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Driving mostly highways I love the power and acceleration this car puts out. I have noticed it has a fairly large blind spot and shoulder checking needs to be done repeatedly and carefully. Due to the many miles behind the wheel I purchased the loaded model with the luxury package including leather and sunroof which are well worth the extra cost. The trunk is huge and the drop down back seat easily accommodates my outdoor gear such as skis.

The Jetta TDI is a great car. It has good power and I have been getting 41 MPG to a high of 49 MPG with all highway driving. If more people would test drive these little diesels they would buy them.

Ive had my Jetta TDI for a year now and have to say that Ive been pleasantly surprised with it. Its gas mileage is great, as expected. I get around 42 mpg around town and just completed a 2,000 mile trek where I got nearly 52 mpg! It is surprisingly fun to drive (and quiet) for a diesel. I love it!

The Jetta is very fun car to drive. The turbo diesel engine has plenty of get-up-and-go power and plenty of passing power. The Jetta is very comfortable on the road and has a sports car feel to it. It comes with lots of options that standard that make the ride very comfortable. It has heated seats both passenger and driver. I haveo regrets about purchasing this car. It is a fine automobile.

Im a proud owner of the 06 Jetta and from the moment I drove it off the car lot Ive been nothing but in love with it! I recently took in on a road trip and got GREAT gas mileage (30 mpg) it COMFORTABLY seated 3 adults & a baby whos in a car seat. I have nothing bad to say about this car at all! Its 100% amazing!!!

  • The New Jetta TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have to say that I probably drove 20 cars and looked up another 30 or more. I set the criteria of 30+mpg city and 40+mpg highway as the baseline and then started looking at what was out there. I spent a good deal of time looking at the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Ford Escape Hybrid. I went to several Honda Hybrid (and Hybrid) websites and what you find are arguments about "HOW" to drive the car to get mileage and "HOW" you are not driving the car correctly when you get less (sometimes low 30s) than advertised. Then I went and looked at some TDI websites. No arguments, just mileage. Thats what I want no nonsense just great mileage inside and outside the city.

I traded in a 2004 GTO for for a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T and am not missing the GTO at all. The fuel economy is amazing (avg. 28 city / hwy), the performance isnt too far off the GTO and the insurance savings is great. The bi-xenon headlights are a must (pkg 2). The DSG auto is a little different when taking off from a stop, but the quick shifts make up for it. I have put 1,500 miles on mine so far and have no complaints.
