This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

  • Awesome Car!! - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

This was a graduation present from my parents, and I couldnt have asked for a better car. The pick up is great, awesome interior. Its a sporty car, but still practical. This car is a definite head turner and worth every penny.

  • WOW - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

I love this Jetta. I have recommended this car to a lot of people. It is so smooth and comfortable to drive. I have even taken it to my other home which is 10 miles up a dirt mountain road, it did great.

  • Problems from the beginning - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have had problems with my car since the second week of ownership. The dealerships tell me that I imagine the oil and smoke problems and Volkswagen tells me that they dont have any control over their dealers. Therefore, my only available recourse is the Better Business Bureau. I would NOT recommend a Volkswagen to anyone. The basis not only on mechanical problems but also on lack of customer service and concern.

  • Do not buy VW unless made in Germany - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

VW are not made like they used to be, and until they do, do not keep one for more than warranty period. I grew up with my parents owning a beetle, Vanagon, rabbit, jetta, and all lasting 10 years plus with no issues. I bought a 00 jetta, kept until 45k miles and sold it to my sister, and thats when everything started failing. I bought a 03 jetta in 02; has 65k miles (fine until 50k miles when the warranty expired). Have spent $4k in past year in repairs. The electrical system is horrible! Factory radio died, temperature control module died, radiator fan and auxiliary fan failed, catalytic converter died, coolant leak, ignition coil problem, now my car wont start. Cant wait to see why.

  • My first VW - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta 1.8T after driving a Civic for several years. I looked at all of the cars in this class, including the Civic, and decided that the Jetta has them all beat: more power, better styling, excellent fit and finish, and a great interior. Its not a perfect car (I hate the cupholders as much as anyone) but it sure comes close! I’d have to say that the best part of the car is the way it drives. You’ll just have to get behind the wheel and see for yourself. I highly recommend the 5- speed manual.

  • Second Jetta - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my second Jetta. I loved my 1992 which had 200,000 miles on it when I reluctantly gave it away. Ive already fallin in love with my new 2003.

  • Sporty and reliable wagon, fun to drive - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Have had 0 (zero) problems with my 03 Jetta 2.0 wagon, my first VW after many Hondas. While I cant knock Hondas, Im impressed by the Jettas step up in ride, general refinement and classy manners. The 2.0 wont put you ahead of the pack but theres plenty of oomph for the average driver. Great 5-sp shifter, superb sound from the standard CD/radio/cassette system, great bump- smoothing ride, good looks inside and out, whats not to like? And given the plethora of standard features I rate it high for value. It makes me smile every time I drive it.

I recent bought this new 2003 jetta GL 2.0L. I am satisfied with its performance. Fun to drive. String. Reasonable acceleration considering the fact that it is V4. I had a hard time finding the 12V outlet, but it was hiding "nicely". Music system is good. Wish they have MP3 support too. Man this is file swapping era. NEway, The only problem that I see this is a fuel consuming car. I dont thisnk that I drive that bad, but I am getting even less than 20 mpg city. Their test rating itself is 23. So expect yours to be close to +/- 20.

  • Biodiesel 03 TDI - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Bought an 03 Volkswagen Jetta TDI with 60,000 miles on it. I drove it home, changed the fuel filter and oil and filled up with 100% ASTM certified biodiesel. Now we get avg. 47 mpg hwy and run on domestically produced renewable fuel! The 177 ft lbs. of torque gives this car all the muscle anyone needs to cruise at 70 and have a good time on the road.

  • good car - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

have only had it 6 weeks and am very satisfied. The dealer was great. The car is likeable and fun to drive. The car feels like more expensive cars that ive owned. The car is quiet on the highway and comfortable to drive for hours at a time.
