This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Dont Buy a Jetta! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have had a very bad time with my Jetta, Ive been to the dealership so many times that Im ready to dump this car like a hot potato. Where do I start?! The A/C failed in the summer and it took three days to fix. The power windows went out, the back seat was bad, and now it is leaking oil like crazy and they dont even have the part to fix it. The back brakes pads need replacement, which will cost $300. Im buying a Camry!

My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI has an outstanding drive and unbelievable fuel economy. I am getting over 45 mpg back and forth to work with only 1,000 miles on the car. The mileage will only get better. I cannot wait to take a trip and get 50+ mpg.

  • Best purchase we ever made - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Our Jetta TDI has been incredibly reliable. The 40 miles to the gallon is reason enough to buy one, I figure we have saved roughly $1,500-$2K in gas in the couple of years we have owned it. In addition to that, we havent had a single problem with the car and have only had to replace two break pads at 50K miles! The manual transmission also makes it fun to drive, and the TDi has plenty of power. I strongly recommend this car.

  • Classy Sedan at an Economical Price - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The Value Edition Jetta is a very safe, attractive, solid performer. With exception of the 15" hub-capped wheels, the standard features (including safety features) are comparable to more expensive sedans. The performance of the 2.5L engine is not spectacular, but certainly adequate for everyday commutes. The torque of the engine is its most rewarding attribute. The handling is quite impressive, even on winding roads (with a wheel and tire upgrade). The brakes are quick to respond and the ESP option provides extra security during unfavorable road conditions. The cabin is very roomy and is comparable to the pre-2006 Passat, and the trunk space seems to be never ending.

  • 80,000 and going strong - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We have owned this car for 2 1/2 years. I drive over 2 mountain passes nearly weekly with heavy snow in the winter. The car accelerates well, is great in snow, runs as well with 4 adults as it does with one. I am not sure where others get their numbers for MPG, but I consistently get 40+ at average speeds of 60 MPH with an automatic transmission. The only time it gets less is when the air conditioning is on. Prior to purchasing the VW we owned a Honda Accord which was a great car. One very significant difference between the Honda and the VW is how much more it takes to ding the sides of the VW as compared to the Honda. Without a dozen dings, pride of ownership comes much easier.

  • Best Car Ive Ever owned - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Am coming up on 5th year of ownership. Bought my TDI brand-new and have 128K miles and still cruising on the original brakes. This is a wonderful car. I keep it serviced every 5000 miles by the dealer. I continously maintain 40-45 mpg. When I think to "hyper-mile" I can get 50 mpg. I highly recommend this car to those who need good mileage. It is very comfortable for long distance driving also. It is a mid-sized luxury car. Very pleased customer!

  • Great So Far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We bought our diesel Jetta in August and so far we just love it. It is surprisingly quick and also gets great gas millage. We have been getting an average of 850 KM to the tank, or a little over 500 miles. We have been told that once this car broken in it will get even better. I cant wait.

I have an 06, Salsa Red Jetta GLI with 17 in. wheels, all seasons tire, and all of the options including XM. This car replaced my 05 Mercedes C230 Sports Sedan which was replaced by 03 Mercedes C230 Sports Coupe. I will never buy a MB again, my cars had nothing but technical issues. I looked at the Audi, BMW, and found the Jetta to be a better bang for the buck. Now I just have to wait for a couple of years and see how it stands up.

  • 2005 Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Not much power from the 5-cylinder motor when compared against comporably priced cars, but a more sophisticated and expensive looking and feeling interior. It is annoying that the car forces both driver and passenger to put a seatbelt on or it keeps beeping.

  • Fun Car to Drive - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

My Jetta TDI was purchased to replace my full size 4X4 diesel truck. When fuel prices went up, I had to make a choice. I really miss having a truck, but now I have a sports car with gas mileage at or close to 45 MPG in the city. The VW Jetta is a very comfortable and sporty car. Now I wouldnt trade it for anything.
