This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Its Still the Budget Bimmer - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

After owning five Nissan products I was determined to find a vehicle that would be entertaining to drive and make me feel special everytime I drove it. That vehicle is the Jetta. Coming from a Sentra this was a huge step up for me. I can honestly say that I didnt fully understand what most VW owners already know, there is just something about the driving experience in this car that I cant quite describe. I feel now that I am driving a road machine whereas before I was merely driving an appliance. I highly recommend the 5-speed transmission for anyone looking at the 2.5 model, you will definitely get more out of this engine.

I have driven gas hog SUVs for a couple years and decided to go the opposite route and purchased a Jetta diesel. I was originally only considering the manual transmission until I drove the auto. What a versatle transmission. I love the "sport mode" and the manual mode. I am 63" and find the interior to be very roomy for the front seat passengers, much less for rear seat. The fit and finish is outstanding and I especially love the interior layout, except for the poorly placed cruise control. The seats take a bit to get used to. I cant quite find that perfect position. The ride is tremendous and the diesel is UNREAL. What an amazing powerplant. This car is a total winner so far.

Great car. One of the few cars to get better than EPA estimated mileage. Actually the EPA was way off and even further off with their new testing. EPA est was 36/42. We have averaged 41.1 mpg and it does not see the highway that often. We got over 49 mpg on one trip with 4 passengers and luggage! Has been extremely reliable.

  • Good Build, Roomy, Top MPG vs Power - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI has impressive build quality (paint, interior trim, parts, welds). Its sharp looking with plenty of interior / trunk space for family of four. I am getting ~41 MPG with combined city / highway driving. It has good power and is very smooth / quiet at 80+ mph. Package 2 is pricey, but nice w/cimatronic settings and heated leather seats. The first dealer that I sppoke with wanted MSRP and the second wanted $1,000 over MSRP -- do research, get them competing, and you should get it close to invoice. I am not sure why diesel fuel costs 10 cents more that gas -- its easier to make! Also, only 1 in 4 stations have diesel, but I get many more miles per tank, so its not a problem.

My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is an excellent car. It has a very similar in "feel" and quality of materials to my previous BMW 325i. It has a little less power than a Bimmer, but gets fantastic mileage. It is really a joy to commute in. I am very impressed with the overall fit and finish of the materials.

  • Best Car we ever bought. - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We have had very little problems with this car. In most cases a car is only as good as its dealership. Anything we have had problems with were repaired under warranty. They switch our tires from Summer to Winter and store our tires at the dealership. We have had a cv joint replaced but this is due mainly to our poor roads in Nova Scotia. Paint peeling from front edge of rear drivers side door. Dealer paying to repair that. We get nothing but compliments on our flashy bright white Jetta TDI.

  • A Winner! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

With around 2,000 miles on our three-week old Jetta 5-speed TDI with Package Two were getting, since day one, 48 mpg. Compared to the 78 diesel Rabbit and 81 diesel Jetta we owned years ago the new Jetta is so much more refined, comfortable, quiet and near-luxury with no penalty in gas mileage. Its powerful and I can pass on two lane roads with no drama. I have had zero issues and the dealer prep was perfect and complete. Theres "value-added" in this car i.e. touch the passing signal and it blinks three times without having to hold the stalk. The center armrest adjusts for height and length. Little things that add up for a satisfying experience. I broke it in as per the Fred TDI website instructions, by the way.

  • Diggin it, would buy again! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The first trip in my Jetta GLI was from Chicago to LA. I averaged 29.4 mpg including pulling the grapevine both ways. This car has awesome acceleration. Its ride is slightly bumpy but it is a sport suspension. It corners like it already knows the way. The biggest complaint from my point of view is that my wife seems to take it to work whenever I am not paying attention! You gotta love it. The paddle shifters are easy to get used to and the shift times are out of this world. I love my VW!

  • Want to love my Jetta, but... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I chose the Jetta from a very short list. I actually wanted a Hybrid very much since. However, when I drove the Jetta, I just fell in love with its handling, interior room and massive trunk size [the Sopranos would get trunk-envy here]. Sadly, along the road a long list of annoyances has cause me to rethink my relationship with VW. Here is the list: - Sunroof - sometimes closes improperly, propped up in vent position - Interior plastics - bubble and peel - Trunk release - stopped working and then once fixed still not working - Service guys thought I was crazy for 1] having so many issues and 2] for expecting them to be fixed 1st time. - Service creating more issues during fix

Weve been exceptionally pleased with our Jetta TDI. We got 40 mpg from the second tank of fuel. It has been surprisingly peppy and fun to drive.
