This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

  • Huh... - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Well, let me start off by saying, this is not my car, it is my brothers, but I have driven it enough. Lets start with performance. When you romp on the gas, wait a second, then you fly, and this thing can! It is so much fun, it feels like you are driving a rocket ship, the steering is so tight. But because of this, the comfort is bad, you feel every little rock, its horrible. Oh, and dont try to put someone in the back seat. I tried, lets just say it didnt turn out so well, Im 60". The exterior design is also top notch, in my opinion. The interior is also layed out very well, the Tiptronic is pretty nice too. The leather seats are supportive too. The A/C is also ice cold.

This is my second VW. I purchased this after reading reviews. The jetta wagon i have removed the cupholders. I am not sure if this is a .5 year model or what. Anyway, great car to drive, decent gas mileage on the highway, but it is fun with the tiptronic. very smotth ride, but still can feel what is going on, and dosent "float" like other wagons. i wish i would have been able to get the sport package.

The Jetta GLX CR6 is a totally fun ride. It has some great features. It came down to this and the BMW 3-Series and the Jetta trumped the BMW in just about everything. It even was $2,000 less in price. Mine is red with a black interior and it is a beaut. The only negative thing I can say is I thought the gas mileage would be a little better. I have been selling Volkswagens ever since my wife and I got this car.

Ive had the car for only four days and I really love it. The fit and finish is is superb, the materials are all high quality. The monsoon sound system really kicks. The ride is taut and the steering is tight and very well balanced. The suspension is sporty and it stays surprisingly flat on turns. This is a fun car to drive, it handles like it should cost another ten grand.

I have owned Chevys, Pontiac, Buick, Lincoln and I think that my Jetta is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Overall performance, handling, and gas mileage beats all my other vehicles. This car can hold up to my abuse and that says a lot, Im not the easiest on cars. The best factory radio.

  • Not what I expected from a German Car - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

I have had problems from the begining. The whole reason I bought the car was for the safety that it provided for me & my family. Safety doesnt count for much when it is in the shop all the time. Oil problems constantly,A/C compresor went out, windshield wiper had to be replaced(it quit working while I was on a 700 mile road trip with family, so had to sit on the road for 3hrs waiting on roadside service b/c of raining and could not see to drive)and there has been many, many more things. Service has been a pain to work with. I should have bought a Kia, at least it has 100,000 mile warranty.

Its bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. Alot of well thought out details were put into this car, for example, with the key in the door , you can roll down all the windows. Great for venting heat in summer. Mileage commuting to work, low 40s. Highway 50, depending on conditions.

Amazing what 4 cyl, turbo, and German engineers can do. As former engineer, am picky. Found attention to detail superior to any other. Every inch has purpose. For 03 they smartly combined savings of GL int. with performance of 1.8T. Engine has economy of 4 cyl. but pep of turbo. Was willing to give up leather/sunroof for 1.8T. With stick, it flies. Amazingly, the "base" interior LOADED. ANY other brand in base interior would leave you with deficit in comfort or performance - requiring extra $ in aftermarket improvements.
