This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • I should have bought a Honda - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car because I was following my heart and ignoring my head, what a costly mistake. I am currently in discussions with an attorney on lemon lawing the car. The car would not start the first day I had it. Towed to dealer, was told it was a software glitch. Two days later car left me and a client stranded out at lunch. Again, the dealer says software glitch. Last night the wipers would not work in a storm. I sat on the side of the road burning up my cell phone minutes instead. I have come to find out that the zone rep is not believable and that VW could care less. Ive gone as far as speaking with a VP of Customer Care. He said in so many words, you have a warranty.

I had an 03 VW diesel wagon that was crashed to the point it was not repairable. The fact that everybody in the car was safe was the main reason that I bought this car (06 VW TDI sedan - no more wagons for 06!?. The second reason was the fuel economy. The torque/power at takeoff is great and the car is fun to drive. The resale of these cars (diesel, TDI engine) is amazing. Even without the government subsidized tax credits, this car is a much better purchase than the hybrids, such as a Prius.

This is one of the best cars I have ever owned. I have had Jaguars, Mercedes, and everything in between. Hybrids will be extinct in five years. Look out for the diesels!

  • One Day and Its Already in the Shop - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I really love my new TDI. It is lovely to drive, has a beautiful leather interior, and plenty of power - its just a shame that I cant put fuel in it. Youd think someone at the factory would have noticed how the filler pipe belched back all the diesel you try to put in it. So...one hundred miles later its in the shop waiting for parts to replace the fuel tank. The dealer has been great - I got a free loaner car, but VW its all about quality these days and you dropped the ball!

  • Great Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my third VW and all I have been very happy with it. This GLI is a great car and has no flaws. Its build quality is top notch. This car is fast and fun to drive and looks beautiful, it gets great gas milage too.

  • Lots of Fun - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive already put 5,000 miles on my 2006 Jetta GLI, package 2. The only problem so far happened at 1000 miles when it wouldnt start after a heavy rain. The dealer could not find anything wrong, they just replugged the battery. I previously owned an 03 Passat 1.8T and I have to say the Jetta is much faster and fun to drive. At the beginning I was reluctant about the DSG tranny as I had only manual tranny cars in the past. DSG is more than manual and automatic transmissions combined! It is faster than a manual, with no torque converter, commodity of auto in traffic jams. The fuel consumption for a 35 miles/day commute city and highway combined is 24-25 mpg - not bad for performance, just a bit more than my old Passat. Price $27,300.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought the car because my other three cars all got around 13 mpg. The Jetta was a great choice. It is safe, well built, and handles really well. I have owned it for about seven months and have had no problems so far. In mostly city driving I have averaged about 27 mpg and on highway around 35. I bought the car for $17,500 and it does not feel like a stripped model with its rich materials and high build quality. It has everything a person needs standard: power windows (w/express up on all four), an alarm, A/C, tilt/tellascoping wheel, and a huge trunk (I fit myself and three of my friends in there for fun!). As for the performance it is no Corvette but it has suprising power and torque. What a great car!

  • Its a Blast! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Ive had the vehicle for about two weeks and its a blast. Ive owned VWs before, including a Jetta, but the initial quality on this GLI is a major leap beyond the 95 Jetta that I owned. The gas mileage is great, I get ~27 in my suburb/urban commute. It has nice speed/acceleration, great handling, and road feel in spades. It feels magnetically bonded to the road - you become part of the car and the car becomes part of the road - again, its a blast. The interior is nice. I went retro with Plaid Package 1. Mine is black with 17" wheels - the color/wheels configuration doesnt scream "Im a sports/performance car." It "looks" like a classy / tasteful / modest sporty sedan, but its definitely a performer.

  • Well built, and more for your money! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I was car shopping and I was looking at the Acura TSX and the Toyota Camry XLE V6. For the amount that I was going to pay for upgrades to the Camry and the TSX, the new Jetta comes standard with it. This car is simply incredible. It has everything that I was looking for and then some. I am glad I shopped around as much as I did. I would have missed out on a great buy and value.

  • Amazingly perfect!!!! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I love this car. The torque is phenominal. Its speed is unmatched by many cars in its class. MPG is ridiculous. I average 57.7 mpg on the highway and 38 in the city. Its governed at 114 mph, and although that is a bit disappointing considering the engine; it is plenty really. The suspension is very smooth, and road noise is considerably limited.
