This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Nice Surprise - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My wife just totaled our 2005 volvo S60, so we went back to the dealer to replace her car. The dealership dropped their Volvo line but asked us to just give the VW a try. He said we would find the VW Passat better than the Volvo and we did! Then a white Jetta caught my eye. I took the turbo out for a run and found it to be a blast to drive and fully loaded with unexpected features that my 2002 Celica didnt have. The turbo is fast and the car handles like its on rails. I call it a "poor mans BMW 325, lol" I once had a 325 and I actually prefer driving the Jetta. It is a little bland looking, but for some reason it looks better to me in white. I think it makes it look larger. I love it.

I have only had this car for a short time, but so far I love it. I was hesitant to buy based on previous reliability reports on earlier models (I have always driven Acura/Honda--very consistent with reliability). But I did extensive research with this model getting good reviews with more positive points on performance than appearance. I like the sporty feel of the turbo. Its roomier than previous models. Leather sport seats are very comfortable. Only time will tell if VW has improved its reliability.

The Jetta TDI is sooo much fun to drive. I am enjoing every minute on the road. Plus, I get 500 miles per tank, you cant beat that!

  • Nice change... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I previously owned a 03 VW Passat W8 with 4Motion. It was luxurious, but a gas guzzler. The Jetta TDI was perfect. After tons of research between the Jetta and Honda Civic, I finally came to a decision that was mostly based on interior design. I got my Jetta fully loaded and couldnt be any happier. The steering wheel wobbles a little, but its nothing scary. I highly recommend this car to everyone caught in limbo. It has pep and personality (not to mention it gets 44 mpg)! I am almost 100% satisfied with my purchase. I only wish that both front seats were dual powered and that they were a little more comfortable. Other than that, Im happy to be a second time VW owner.

  • The new 2006 Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

For starters, I managed to get the car for $22,250; I thought that is was a good price for what it is. Ive got package one with XM. Im just coming off of a 1995 Nissan Sentra with 205,000 miles, so this is a joy to drive. The handling is great, road noise is minimal, but not perfect. Sound system is great although I havent hooked up the XM radio yet. I have not encountered any of the problems that I have read about concerning the 2005 models. The only problem that I do have is the mileage. In other cars that I have driven, the mileage was consistent regardless of the AC or heat being on. The Jettas more sensitive to these mechanisms and can eat more gas than I am used to buying.

  • First VW is a keeper - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Had wanted a TDI for a looong time. After two years, have only had to replace the battery. It did seem to die prematurely, but I heard alot of the OEM batteries were soft. I plan to keep this for a very long time. I enjoy driving it every time. Feels luxurious for what I paid.

Despite VWs reputation for being unreliable, I am happy to report NO incidents of unreliability in my 06 Jetta during the first 30000 miles.

  • My VW deisel TDI Laughs at Silly Hybrids - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

My VW Jetta TDI far exceeds my expectations. I am so glad that I chose this vehicle over a silly hybrid. I mulled over the TDI for years. It turns out, diesel vs. hybrid is really a no brainer, which is probably why Honda finally hopped on the European deisel bandwagon last year. All I can say is look what won the 12 hour Sebring and 24 hour LeMans this year, (a VAG Audi deisel TDI) not an Asian hybrid. I drive rather spirited, (because i enjoy to drive), and still am amazed at my fuel economy. Unlike all the hybrids crawling along in the right lane getting mediocre fuel economy (but good for them, they need to save for their new battery), i can blow them away and save for all my admiring babes.

  • Suprise its a VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We started out to buy a Nissan Maxima but were looking for something with better mileage. This car has comfort, head room and with the turbo engine, it can scat. We had some problems in the beginning with one of the back doors not opening & the paint peeling off the bumpers but the dealer made good on it while it was still under warranty. We love our VW! The only problem we really have is with the defroster. It takes forever to defrost the windshield. Is anyone else having the same problem? After 3 years, we are definitely pleased, and would buy it all over again. I still have people stop and ask me what kind of car I have and they think it is brand new!

  • Great value - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Except for the MPG youd never guess its a diesel. Has a lot going for it. Ride, dry road handling, seat comfort, fit/finish all great. Good pick-up once turbo is engaged. People have mistaken it for a BMW - good looking car. I have driven trucks for years and got tired of the gas bill. I am really pleased with this terrific car.
