Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Excellent all the Way Around - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By WagsVW - February 17 - 1:00 amMy 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is a high quality car. The diesel is great. Dont let the horsepower fool you. It has tons of low-end torque. Its steering is tight and it corners great. Plus it has tons of VW goodies.

Great Car Minor Problems - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By fralopez4636 - January 16 - 7:06 amI have owned this car since July of 2006. I am truly impressed with the DSG transmission and the 2.0T engine. This is the best engine transmission combination I have ever driven. I get 28 mpg combined. The acceleration is very good especially for passing in DSG Sport Mode. The ride and handling are also very Germanic which to me is good. I have had several problems with the car all of which have been fixed under warranty. The most severe problem was an engine misfire caused by bad ignition coils. The A/C compressor also gave out after 15K miles. I bought this car used with 9,000 miles on it for $19.8K and for that price this car is hands down the best car purchase I have ever made.

Good Decision - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Corky Fulton - December 5 - 7:13 amId done a bit of research here at Edmunds.com and decided that a Jetta diesel was the economy car for me. Ive owned Infiniti Q45s and Mercedes E-Class cars in the past. I wanted something that would get me great milage with reliability. I bought the automatic with package 1 (my wife must have heated seats) Ive had the car for 4 weeks and have averaged 38 to 40 mpg on 4 tanks of fuel, doing combo highway/city driving. The car is fun to drive and really feels tight. I love the 6 speed auto transmission. It feels much quicker than it really is because of the torque. My only complaint is that its a bit noisy on certain road surfaces at speed. The fit is good with everything feeling tight.

Worst Vehicle Owned - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Kelly - November 27 - 4:30 amI drive about 40,000 miles per year, I thought I would get a lot of miles out of the TDI, I currently have 115,000 miles on it and I would never buy another VW Diesel. The maintenance costs are outrageous; timing belt, filters and special oil. I had to replace a head at 103,000 miles, cost $7,000, why, VW could not answer that. I suspect that they used the wrong oil on one of the changes. Make sure you read the maintenance manual about the oil, VW was the only one who serviced my engine, but who is to say they used the correct oil. Im sure the 2009s are similar. Replaced Belt and routine filters and maintenance @ 80,000 and that cost around $1500.

Puts FUN back into driving - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By WWW - November 22 - 12:16 pmIve had my Jetta for two weeks now. After extensive research it was either the Jetta or Honda Accord. The Jetta won out and Im glad it did. This car is tight. Mine has no rattles or abnormal engine noises as another owner has mentioned. This car sticks to the road like none I personally have driven, except a Corvette. The black paint is 30% smoother than Hondas. Everything is in the proper place and all knobs and buttons function logically as you would expect. The fit and finish is first class. The engine is JUST RIGHT for this car. It has plenty of zip. The Jetta is so smooth on the highway that you find yourself easily doing 75 in a 55 zone and not realizing it. Overall, this is a very, very impressive and FUN TO DRIVE car!

A Great Choice for a Practical Person - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Marlboro - November 20 - 4:56 pmThe Jetta is the only car in its price range that had all the features that I was looking for. I need room for two adults and three small children. This car has uncompromised safety demonstrated by its great crash test results, side curtain airbags, VSA and ABS. It has a low cost to own and the ability to fit in our small garage. Its ride, handling, and luxury features are also important. So far the car is running great. Its fun to drive, zipping in and out of traffic and barely sips fuel. The car is very solid, the doors close with a nice thump and it rides firmly without body lean in the corners yet soaks up bumps. The 4 year warranty, low fuel cost, and historically high resale value should keep the total cost to own low.
