This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Quality, Performance, Value - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I did a lot of research before buying my VW. I had previously owned a Toyota & a Pontiac. Considered another Toyota but I found the value for the money was definitely with VW. I went with an 06 instead of an 08, and got all of the options I wanted for less money! I still have a 4 year warranty because it is a certified vehicle. The car drives like a dream! It has the triptronic so I can drive it like a stick shift if I want to (with no clutch!) The car is solid and I feel safe driving it. Also, this is my first time with a leather interior and I am loving it. Even on a few 100 degree days, it was not intolerable getting in (which I thought it would be). "Its the poor mans Mercedes!"

If you dont know about the the 2.0T FSI engine, then you need to do your reseach and see what you have been missing out on. Youll pay a few more pennies but the fun it puts back into driving will make all the difference. I havent let the wife drive it yet after she peeled out of the dealership in the test drive vehicle.

  • Love my Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my second Jetta. Even though Consumer Reports gave the Jetta a poor review in 2005 I went ahead and bought the 06. My previous Jetta was a 98. What a great choice that was. I have had it for over two years now and, 24,000 miles later, it has performed perfectly. I still get a thrill out of driving it. City mileage about 24-25 mpg.

  • I love my GLi - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This car has been a joy to drive and a blast to rip around town in. The trunk holds anything I throw at it and the paddle shifters make even the worst traffic enjoyable. I did have a couple of issues at the beginning, but that came from sitting on a lot for almost a year before I got it. And the dealer was wonderful about taking care of them on their tab. It is also a little rocket!! I love having kids in souped up cars try and race me - I leave them at the line every time!

  • Great Car, but Wish I got the Turbo Model - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I purchased my Jetta 2.5 in May, and have been pleased so far. Now, with 6,500 miles on it, the gas mileage is up to 28 mpg on the highway at 75-80 mph. The interior is great quality, but Im a little worried about the lack of heated seats for the winter. Overall, its a very well-built, solid car. The engine has great torque, but isnt as quick to rev as Id like. Also, the 5-speed shifter isnt quite sporty enough. If I had it to do over, Id cough up the extra dough for the Jetta 2.0 turbo with the 6-speed transmission.

I have had my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 for five months and have put about 10,000 miles on it. I have had absolutely no problems. I am getting about 32 mpg on the highway. I would recommend this car to anyone.

  • It’s not the German VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Bought this 2.5 Jetta new over 32kCND in Canada in 2006. First class maintenance with VW dealer and paint looks like new. Most of the drive on Hwy and no drive on manual mode. The fact is the transmission slips at gear 3, 4 and then 2 at 192k km (120kmiles). It’ll cost too much to rebuild or replace the transmission (VW quoted over $6kCND +tax replace). I expected to run this VW 250-300k km but only 190k km. So, it’s almost no value now. It is a good looking small VW. Pro: Looks like very well made car even after 10 years. Con: Loudly drive, too much bumping on Hwy. Overall: cost, small, vibration

  • Almost Perfect (but what really is?) - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This is my second Jetta in two months (someone t-boned the first one, and it was just like the commercial). The first was a GLI, which was perfect except for a rough ride-quality due to the sport suspension. My new one is a Package 2 with a much smoother ride. It feels like an Audi A4, but much more affordable. Its almost as fun as the GLI (an 11 on the fun scale), but that point of sacrificed fun is more than made up for in comfort and utility. This is the perfect commuter vehicle for those who still enjoy driving and want something other than a cookie-cutter Japanese sedan.

  • MPG Better than EPA - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

If you havent looked at purchasing a diesel because of loud engine noise, black smoke, lack of pick up, or the availability of diesel? THINK AGAIN! All of the above problems have been corrected in the new Jetta! After driving this car youll understand why 80% of all cars are diesel in Germany! this car drives great at high speeds. When I first purchased my Jetta its gas mileage was 37 - 38 mpg. Since 10,000 miles, (currently 22,000mi) my mileage is consistantly 43.5 - 44 MPG! On a trip from San Antonio to Vegas with a full trunk and approximately 750 lbs. of passengers, running at 76 mph, (95% Cruise) she got a WOPPING 52.5 MPG round trip! Who needs a Hybid?

  • Great Car for the Money! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I had test driven the Lexus IS 250, BMW 325i, Acura TL, and Infiniti G35 - the Volkswagen Jetta GLI offers everything those cars offer (minus some obvious horspower with certain models) at a great price. I was very impressed with the quality, power and standard features that this car offered - at a fraction of the cost of what the other cars sell for. Even though the cars I test drove are not thought of as in the same category as this car, for the money it can clearly stand beside those other cars - and make you a believer in this car like it did with me. You should at least test drive one, you will not be dissapointed!
