Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Love my GLI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mike - April 29 - 4:46 amThis is a great car. A little pricey maybe, but you get what you pay for. VW is now competing with the Acura TSX and Volvo S40.

2006 Jetta TDI -- Best car purchase ever - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Gary - April 13 - 3:00 pmAt the time of purchase in August 2006, ours was one of only 3 remaining Package One models in the area equipped with the 6-speed automatic. The EPA highway mileage rating is 42 mpg, but our best ever was over 48! Though the 1.9 L turbo diesel is rated at only 100 horsepower, it feels to have every bit as much "get up and go" as our 2003 Passat with all that inherent diesel torque. The transmission is flawless and with all of those gears, it knows precisely when and where it needs to shift. The car attracts a fair amount of attention in terms of its refined German styling and its a hoot to drive. The German designers tend to build in a firm ride - not soft or spongy. 40,000 mi. no problems.

Jetta review - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By john launius - April 5 - 6:33 amI bought the car for the fuel economy, but I am very pleased with all aspects. I have not yet had even one small problem and the comfort is excellent considering I am 63" and over 220. Its fuel mileage consistently over 40 mpg. The satellite radio is a nice feature that I recommend as are the leatherette seats. The diesel has a ton more power than the one I use to drive back in college (83 model). Its exterior styling gets a ton of looks, and if your undecided on gas or diesel, its a no brainer - go diesel; everywhere I go the car gets noticed and the first question out of everyone is whether the car is a TDI. In summary, I promise youll be happy with this vehicle.

My Third Jetta in Twelve Years - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By A.J. Peterson - March 27 - 1:30 amSo far my experience has been great. I have had no problems with the car as of yet. My wife kicked the exit light cover off but, I snapped it in place and where the dealer installed the lock box the rubber is turned inward form the holder. I will see how the dealer handles this on the first service. This is my third Jetta, the first one was a 97 GL with a 4cyl. 5- speed transmission, crank moonroof and no power steering but, it did have power windows. My second one was a 95 GLX VR6 and it was loaded with again a 5-speed transmission. Now Ive bought a 06 Spice Red Tubrbo 4 with a 6-speed transmission. I had to get used to the extra gear and driving a stick again. I would have gotten the DSG but, my wife will get an EOS in the fall.

Nice Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Ooo - March 20 - 1:36 amDriving this car was not only fun but comfortable, you have to love that 2.0T engine, once it gets going you can really feel the turbo kick in! With 200hp Im loving this car, my Dad has a 2006 Passat with the same 200hp 2.0T engine but his was way more expensive, only has a few more features. I never want to get out of the car when Im driving it, since I bought it just a week ago I have yet to notice anything wrong with the car. There is no road noise and a smooth ride, especially on corners going 30 mph ;) the car stays just like you were going straight on a road! The bi-xenon headlights on pkg. #2 help in seeing the road ahead as well.

Unreliable - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By moilaset - March 5 - 2:43 amNot particularly fun to drive but very powerful and fuel efficient. 2.0T engine works better with GLI. Engine consumes oil about a quart per 5k miles so be careful! Front tires go fast. AC is not sufficient in Texas. In 10k miles we started to have issues with a DSG shifter; after several visits to the dealer they got it fixed. In about 15k miles, lost fuel pup or something, it was repaired under warranty. At 29k miles, in DSG transmission the clutch failed and broke the transmission casing: the car almost cached the fire, 6k USD repair under warranty. In 30k miles, engine lost the coolant and car had to be towed to dealer, again.

Love that Jetta! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Gene - February 26 - 9:40 amAs a new owner, I have found that it is too close to the high beam switch. This is my second Jetta. I had the old style and when I traded it there was 199,000 miles in it. I love the new style and performance with the independent rear suspension and 10 extra horse power. The new style is really beautiful. I wouldnt buy anything else. I was told I would average 41 mpg highway and I am averaging 47 on the highway. As always, VW has under promised and over delivered. This is an OUTSTANDING vehicle.

Fun to drive but Thirsty - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By mikey - February 26 - 3:26 amThe car is really fast and handles really well. The only "negative" thing I got to say is that its too thirsty (and its Premium also). I get about 450km per full tank driving normal, and 350 km per tank driving fast, but I still LOVE it!!!

The 2006 is so much better that the 2004 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Keith - February 16 - 5:00 pmI am so glad that we went to VW again for our new Jetta. I can hardly get the keys away from my wife. We had a 2004 GL, but we needed more room. We got that and more! It handles the Alaskan winter roads better than any 4X4 SUV I have even driven. ESP is a great feature! What, there is ice on the roads? I am looking forward to long road trips this summer.
