This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Great Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I test drove numerous other compact to midsize sedans. The Jetta outperformed all but the Passat in my opinion. For the price and the added features, I chose the Jetta. The handling and performance are incredible. The only downside is a slower acceleration off the start. Once it gets going though, be sure to check the speedometer because it does not feel like you are going that fast. I also found the added room in the interior to be very accomadating. I am 66" and I am very comfortable in the car with lots of head and leg room. The added features are great a well. The trunk is huge, the stereo system is awesome.

This car has had nothing but problems since day one. First the bolts holding the door panels on fell out of the passenger’s rear door. Second, I have had a rough Idle that VW is unable to fix since about 5,000 miles. I turned in the BBB and they said it wasnt a serious enough problem even though is has been around for 20,000 miles, and five months. Next I opened my trunk one day and water came pouring out of my trunk lid, bad seal around rear light. Lastly and most dangerous, I rear-end another car and caused almost $8,000 in damage to the car and the air bags did not deploy. Luckily I was not hurt. The front impact sensor was destroyed, as well as many other parts. Dont buy this car!

  • Buyer Beware.... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive had my 2006, 2.5 L automatic Jetta for about 3 years and I cant understand how it gets good reliability ratings. My car has 67,000 miles and has had a number of high-priced repairs. It seems like the check engine light in tthis car come on regularly. So far I had an emission problem, replaced a CV joint boot, and most notably replaced the large fan (the large fan repair was nearly $500). Im going back to my Toyota dealership and if my gas pedal sticks, I will still have a more reliable car!

My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is the best car that Ive ever owned. It gets 42 to 50 mpg and is fun to drive. I have not had any problems yet and do not expect any.

  • Electrical NIGHTMARE!! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my GLI in August 09 with 22,700 miles. Had it for less than 6 months and the headache began. Battery went dead and has been to the dealership 4 times in 30 days! Dealership actually admitted "They have no idea, whats causing the battery to keep dying." They kept it in their possesion once for 13 days & got it "all fixed." (by their standards) Brought it home, 36 hrs later, DEAD BATTERY! They replaced battery, radio, and now have ordered motor for the drvr back window. When the car runs, it is a DEMON! but, dont expect it to be reliable. 2nd VW Ive owned, 1st was a Passat; it had elec probs too. DONT BUY A VW!!!!

  • Airbag and lighting - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have to say that I overall that my jetta is a decent vehicle, but I have had some annoying issues with the electrical system. First off while it was still under warranty the airbag sensor came on. The dealer told me that a broken spring between the airbag and steering wheel was the issue was the reason that the airbag light came on. Well, a year later after the warranty had expired the airbag light came on again... a $500 fix... Now, prior to this headache, I did cause a minor rearend accident which caused the plastic grill inserts to come loose, but it was not serious enough to cause the airbag to deploy. Second, the headlights and tailights burnout randomly..

  • I love my Jetta TDI! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Dont believe the sticker when it says 35 mpg city and 41 mpg highway... I have 6,000+ miles on mine (10 fill ups at the pump) and have averaged almost 44 mpg! My previous car was a minivan so maybe its just a matter of perspective when I talk to friends about the great acceleration. But for me, its fun to drive, looks good (especially from behind the wheel), and I like the fact that the price of diesel fuel has fallen below the price of regular unleaded again! I had a few problems: the master cylinder was replaced, and the antenna needed servicing to ensure that the XM radio and navigation worked. But my dealer took great care of the car (and me) and this car is a joy to drive

  • Verry Happy With VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T is a very nice car. Prior to the VW, I owned two Honda Accords in a row. The VW offers same high quality, good fit and finish and comfortable seats as the Accord, but with a much more powerful engine (vs. Accords 4-cylinder) and better handling and braking compared to the Accord. I have owned other cars with turbos and was concerned about lag, but the Jetta has a good power band for passing, getting up hills, etc. I have really enjoyed the car from the test drive. It is more fun and less vanilla than other sedans in this category. I definitely will recommend it to friends and family considering other comparable sedans.

I purchased the Jetta 2.5 on June 3, 2006. It has everything that I wanted in a new vehicle, including a moonroof, heated leather seats, awesome stereo, 6 CD player, on and on and on. The red exterior and the camel interior are very pretty together. It rides so smoothly and is a fun car to drive. The thing that I love the most is the quick pick up when you are on the very hilly roads of Pittsburgh.

  • Awesome! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

After having a GTI for a while, I decided I needed a bigger car. As fun as the GTI was, it was just getting too small. I looked at the Audi A3 & A4 and the Acura TSX... The 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is like an Audi, for $3,000+ less and is equipped with many of the same features and parts as a comparably equipped A4. It even has the same engine. This car is great to drive, has a good pick-up and is extremely nice inside.
