Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Great for the money! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Francisco Carpio - August 19 - 7:43 pmSo far so good. I find the engine to be very smooth and it has a nice torquey feeling, even with the auto tranny. The Sirius radio has some stations that do not require you to activate the service. When you close the doors they feel very sturdy. The leather quality was better compared to my more expensive (at the time of purchase) 1996 Toyota 4Runner, and far better than my 2000 Acura Integra. I love the blue lights on the dash but I find the speedo hard to read accurately. Overall I think this is a good ladies car (my wife drives it, and she loves it). I say that because this car is smooth riding, it has smooth leather, it is very ergonomic and it treats the ladies the way they should be treated.

Little Red Racer - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By ccrider - August 18 - 7:36 pmI traded in a Dodge Dakota for my Jetta and havent had a single regret. I was a little worried about not being able to sit up high anymore, but that fear went away quickly. It felt like I was driving a race car - it is so much fun! The ride is smooth and the car responds to everything with ease. The controls are all within reach and when you drive at night, theres an awesome contrast between the red and blue intererior dash lights. Its fun to see the looks you get while driving around in this car. The XM radio is a nice plus as well.

Nice Car, Poor Gas Mileage - Get the TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Paul - August 18 - 4:13 pmBought my new silver Jetta in July. Was really looking for a TDI but they didnt have any and I decided to settle on this one. It has the leather, 6 CD changer, XM radio, heated seats, and adjustable seats which is all very nice considering I live in Nebraska. I used to have a Passat. The styling and feel are very much the same and quite pleasing. The car feels high quality and as a manual its fun to drive. My only complaint is the gas mileage. Ive checked it now for two months and Im consistantly getting 20 miles/gal, which is very disappointing for a small car. Thats pure town driving. Ive driven the TDI. If you want the mileage get a TDI. You wont sacrifice any perfomance.

My 2.5 Volkswagen Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By IMPERIAL_DMOR - August 9 - 3:23 pmGetting a Jetta was the best decision I have made when buying a car! I love this car. It suits me perfectly. I love the way it looks, the way it handles and how much more luxurious it is compared to previous models. The only thing is I wish it had a more ponies under the hood. For some reason my fiancees Beetle, with the same i-5 engine and and only 150 lbs lighter, has more punch! Other then that, and a few warranty issues, it has been my most enjoyable car yet!

Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By chichitao - July 28 - 5:16 pmI got this car for my wife because it got such good crash test ratings and because of the airbags, gas mileage, and overall quality. We have not been disappointed. It drives great (we came from an Xterra which rides like a tin can on wheels), it has more than enough power for a little car, and it is fun to drive. That is really all you can ask. There is enough room inside for us and plenty of room for back seat passengers. The trunk room is outstanding!

2006 Jetta GLI 2.0 L/200hp/turbo - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By The Jet - July 26 - 11:26 pmJust purchased an 06 Jetta, red with charcol interior. I looked at Toyota, Honda, Nissan. For driveability and price it was a tough decision. No barganing on the Honda Accord Hybrid, all quotes were $30,000. The Nissan Altima looked pretty good but the mileage was not impressive and the price a little higher for the same features. Toyota had nothing to interest me. Drove the Jetta, excellent road handling, good acceleration, comfortable, manual transmisson and clutch very smooth. Gets 26/34, uses premium though, for this engine (2.0L turbo/200hp). Overall impression; excellent fit and finish, good comfort features, sporty, firm ride but not stiff, very quiet interior, premium sound system.

My Vdubb - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By DaLarr - July 24 - 11:10 amWell, I just got my Jetta a week ago! Evrything is great on the car from the interior to the exterior to the build quality. I already have to take it in for the alignment (VW said no problem they will handle it)! Something went wrong with the CD player but thats a small fix! I have the navigation system and love it! I dont know why some others dont like it, but it works great for me. All in all, its a great car!

Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Daniel - July 20 - 6:13 amThe Jetta GLI is truly a great car. It was my first new car purchase and I am very pleased with the result. Interstate driving is very comfortable and you are rewarded with Honda Accord-like gas mileage. In the city, the good gas mileage pretty much goes away, but you do get to enjoy feeling the turbo spool. So far the only problem I have had is that the windshield wiper fluid doesnt spray out, but the dealership is looking into this for me. It has a great sound system and good ergonomics. Be sure to look at more than one dealer for pricing. They will go below "invoice" even if one dealer says they wont. Mine was $1,000 below "invoice." This car is really a lot of fun to drive with the refinement of a BMW 3-Series. This car is a step up in class for VW.

Mostly a good car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Steve - July 18 - 10:00 amOverall it has been a good car. I have about 92000 miles on it now and needs some significant work. A wheel bearing is shot, the head gasket leaks, and a few other minor repairs needed. The real problem is that this engine seems to have a flaw as noted by many others. I began to get a VERY rough idle at about 50000 miles that was repaired under warranty for $5000. The problem is coming back now and can really only get a band-aid repair if I want to avoid paying $5000 on my own (which didnt really last anyway). Other than this, it has been a super reliable car and has had very few problems. It has been probably my favorite car I have ever owned but I am selling it now to avoid major repairs.

Still Enjoy BUT - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By aemgli - July 6 - 2:51 amThis is the nicest car I have owned. It is quick while getting good gas mileage. I said good not great 27city and 29hwy. That is about the best I have been able to get but for the power the engine has it is good. The DSG 6 speed trans is great . You can drive it in Normal , Sport , or Manual. Be warned to get that trans serviced is about $300 . The handling of the car is great. It will take turns and stops like you would not believe . I dont know how it all works but this car feels like it stops better then most small cars out there . This is were I am running into problems. I have been to the dealer about 10 times for problems in the 4 months that I have had the car for eng probs. 26000mi
