This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

Wow, what a fun car to drive. I have had this beauty for 4 months now and have put 4500 miles on it. I love every bit about it. I have never owned a VW till now, and I dont think I will ever change.

Has 20k miles. For the people who are writing great reviews for this car, I would love to hear how you feel about your car after a year. Since day one, nothing but problems. Speedometer gauge stopped working after 3 days. Fixed and broke again the next day. They took another 10 days to fix it. New Jetta in the shop first 15 days of the first month I owned it. Other problems: Stereo broke and had to be replaced, instrument panel had to be replaced, center counsel broke, problems with breaks, and doors rattle..turned out a cable that was loose inside the door. I should not have this many problems with a new car.

I love my 2003 VW Jetta, to me it is best car for town driving, (for long distance cruising I use my Mercedes 2004 E320 which is the best in this category) Jetta is interesting to drive and FUN to drive and safest in its class, grate interior and exterior, very solid and stable on the road, I would recommend this car for everybody.

Who knew such a little car had so much heart? This is my first new car, and I cant get enough of driving it. Hondas are a thing of the past for me.

  • Really like my TDI Jetta Wagon - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

TDI Jetta Wagon GLS in an automatic. Automatic is peppy - it can take warming up as you drive when outside temps. are cold (~10 deg. F) before getting to its best performance. Good torque to get started & it seems to get better as the engine is broken in (only 2000 mi. so far). Driving a little more conservatively (safely, that is) to see just how much over 40 MPG I can get - a bonus. Good std. features on the GLS (incl. the moonroof!) - got the Monsoon sound system since thats what the dealer had and the TDI Jetta Wagon is hard to find. Sounds great! Like the lit dashboard at night & "secret" storage near spare tires a plus.

Went from an Acura to the VW... No regrets!

  • Premium Jetta - FUN to Drive - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

The car has been nothing but sensational, smooth, quiet, quick, powerful and very comfortable (even though firmer suspension). The interior quality is amazing, including soft touch materials, premium cloth and overall presentation. The car has a nice balance between fuel economy and sport. You really feel like your in a BMW, very tight. If you want a premium car, with near-luxury appointments - this is the car, believe me. I have had only two minor issues including a passenger-side seat heater stop working and a rear taillight bulb (brake light) went out. I love this car, love its beige and black interior combination that is unbelievable rich looking. Highly recommended.

  • All-around great car - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive had this car for almost 3 years now and with 38,000 miles on, have never experienced any problems with the car. Great German handling and quality, really puts Japanise and American competitiors to shame.
